So so

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Management is resistant to suggestions from employees. Apparently, they know it all. The pay is good but the work environment is just OK. The job is physically demanding and requires working at night doing store deliveries. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to go home.

I felt the company undervalued its employees.

What is the best part of working at the company?Nothing really. Low pay with too many responsibilities. The training was inadequate. The working atmosphere felt toxic. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? No opportunity to progress. No benefits.

Let’s take control of your BOB

They let you take control of your BOB.good group of people to work with. If your full time you get Health and dental benefits also 2 weeks paid vacation, that upgrades to 3 after 5 years of work.

Try to make you kiss the ground they walk on for providing the bare required minimum essentials of the job

Try to make you kiss the ground they walk on for providing the bare required minimum essentials of the job, won’t even provide you with an adequate WFH set up 😂 this place is a joke. Steer clear of this place unless it is a warehouse position.

Pros

No working weekends

Cons

Benefits suck

You can make most of the role but like any role you reach it max

Fastenal as a company are good and the people I have met are excellent. Good people, job and good challenges. The pay could be a lot better than it is though. I have learnt a lot here from bottom to up and would recommend that to anyone. They teach you well and you do have make the most of your skill set of being hardworking, ambitious and also being a solution provider. Like any other job, there are some mundane tasks. The supply chain is also good, 95% of the time, product does come on time. But that 5% can be like Murphys Law, however this can be eradicated if you know how to work the channels to provide solutions. The people are great and definitely make the culture/environment. The only gripe with the company is that the pay doesn't reflect the stress in any role. The PT roles I feel the pay is decent. The Full-time roles, not so much, although it's higher on the commission side in terms of bonuses, it also can lead to renumaration not being consistent, which of course is dependent on growth and how stable the branch is. There will be good/bad days.If the base was higher with a fairly decent commission % this would be an amazing job.

Pros

Support, Culture, Internal promotions, Training, People

Cons

Pay on the Base side, not enough support at the branch level, constant feeling of feeling you haven't done enough

Good workplace

Nice working environment, friendly colleagues, and teamwork. You can learn certain skills and knowledge here, which will help you grow your career. The work pressure will not be very high, but the salary will also not be too high, unless you are engaged in sales and have a commission as a supplement.

Excellent place to work for in my opinion.

Coming from 8 years at another company where if you were sick you were made fun of and bullied from taking time off to me messaging my manager "Hey i'm not feeling too good but i can still do orders i think" and them telling me to just stay home and get better, that was kind of a shock for me, still is. As long as your partner that does orders isnt off on holidays you can take off whenever. The job culture is good and i'm very proud to work where i work. The pay is fantastic. There are some stressful times of course like with all jobs but i genuinely enjoy where i work and can see myself working here for a while :)

Pros

Free lunches, good PTO, Dont have to feel bad for calling in sick, Fun work environment

Room for Advancement

Starting part-time leaves lots of room for advancement. Great starter job for a young professional just getting into the workforce. Base salary could be higher, but makes up for it in commission.

Pros

Good work/life balance

Cons

Can be physically challenging

Good work place

Its a good experience. A lot of stuff to learn from others. Can get hectic at times. But the pay is good compared to other places and the team of sorters are good

low stress place to work

the work hours are flexible and fellow employees are really great to work with. The learning curve is high at the beginning, but once you gain time and experience it is low stress and an easy workload to manage.

Pros

great workmates, good management, flexible hours, no evenings or weekends

Cons

very dependant on the branch you work at to have a positive experience.

Dosent pay the bill's

This place is a huge ponzie scheme, the store managers job is to sell the scheme to all the store employee's and in turn it's the employee's job to sell " cost saving benifits" on to the customer, in a vain attempt to make %20 year after year that eventualy you cant keep up, and quit.

Pros

None

Cons

44 hr weeks

Fast paced work environment

Fastenal is a great place to work and gain experience to kick start a career elsewhere as you do learn quite a bit if you’re willing to do so. If you’re determined and out in the time (years) there is opportunities for advancement but you must show your worth and communicate with district managers on a regular basis. Most general managers have no say in your career advancement and do no more than sit behind a desk barking orders with little to no recognition for your efforts. Pay is well below industry average working in a branch, not to mention commission calculators change regularly to favour the company. Benefits are average, and the amount of paid time off is poor. Fastenal is no more than a great stepping stone for other career/job opportunities.

Good place to learn and start

Growth opportunities narrow down/disappear as you grow. Watch your back always it is an extremely competitive work environment. No salary increase no performance reviews.

Horrible place to work.

Only managers get fulltime benefits. No benefits at all. Rude managers and not very understanding. They watch you like a hawk and monitoring how long it takes you to do each task. They have their favorites and if you're not it then they will make it hard for you. They also give you write ups for mistakes even when you're a few weeks in. Not the best environment. Don't work here.

I wouldn’t recommend this place

Absolutely no job security . there is a lot of training . If you fail the training you will not advance. Even in management the wags are very low for this amount of pressure

Pros

Lots of training

Cons

Wages are to low for this type of job

Different culture

Very segregated between part time and full time employees. Full time are given way more flexibility in hours etc. They are payed way more and they often talk down to part time staff.

Not a good place to work

If you ask for a raise they either tell you come back at the end of the quarter or that there is a hiring freeze. If you want to make mediocre money this is the job for you. If you want to be able to say you're proud of your employer, don't apply here.

Pros

Paid lunches, no one really cares.

Cons

Can be hard work, no room for advancment.

No culture and always part-time so no benefits

No culture and always part-time so no benefits, they also provide little relevant training and will not sponsor most education opportunities. Management is a clique that very few are allowed into.

Not a good place to work.

The pay does not match the work you have to do. The commission matrix is such that you will work harder year after year to make less. Commission is paid primarily on growth (new accounts only) but all the existing customer sales pay out much less yet there is still a lot of selling and account managing to be done to maintain your client base. Overall, stock at the store level is very low and cannot accommodate emergency client orders. They also make you do a 5 week brainwashing training in Winona MN at their HQ with little to no allowance if you are going to be a GM. They don't offer the proper tools and equipment to safely do your job. Very cheap company. Not worth it at all.

Pros

None

Cons

Too many to list.
