Relaxed work environment with a great team
Branch Operations Manager (Former Employee) - Stoney Creek, ON - 3 December 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedFastenal helped mold my position to suit my home life and increase their daily productivity by my willingness to start earlier in the day so the deliveries could get out to the customer at the start of the day. Also meant I could get in my 9 hours and be home mid-afternoon. Management in the store was great as was the office girl and sales guys. Always willing to lend a hand where needed, we worked as a team. Upper management not in the store was quick to have ideas for improvement but didn't follow through or wasn't involved in our branch enough to really see how great we were doing. Opportunities to go anywhere in the company and anywhere in the country were always available. Overall, excellent place to work
Pros
Flexibility and oppportunities for advancement
Cons
Pay could be better

So so
Driver (Former Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 3 November 2023
Management is resistant to suggestions from employees. Apparently, they know it all. The pay is good but the work environment is just OK. The job is physically demanding and requires working at night doing store deliveries. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to go home.

Productive and Fun
Outside Sales Representative (Former Employee) - Saint John, NB - 1 November 2023
Fastenal can be a fun and rewarding job. There is room for growth and lots of training for development. Unfortunately with the wrong management in place the job can be very stressful.

Try to make you kiss the ground they walk on for providing the bare required minimum essentials of the job
Various Roles (Former Employee) - Kitchener-Waterloo, ON - 29 October 2023
Try to make you kiss the ground they walk on for providing the bare required minimum essentials of the job, won’t even provide you with an adequate WFH set up 😂 this place is a joke. Steer clear of this place unless it is a warehouse position.
Pros
No working weekends
Cons
Benefits suck

If you are a woman steer clear
Customer Solutions Consultant (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 2 October 2023
If you are a woman I would steer clear of this company. The culture is that of a hockey locker room and leadership is a group of Old Boys who have never worked anywhere else in their life. You will begin to feel like you are finding success but they will only promote men who are most like the personalities that were promoted before them. They pay very low salaries and the culture has really gone downhill.

Easy work but all are night shifts
Truck Driver/Equipment Operator (Current Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 31 July 2023
Good easy going company for beginners. Lots of unloading but no pressure from the management. Decent pay check. Very chill work place environment. Overall good company

All about the team
Sales Associate (Current Employee) - Ontario - 14 May 2023
If you have a good group of colleagues, this is a good place to work. It is sales, so there's a certain amount of stress in hitting goals and so forth. But if your management is solid, you'll have a good life there!

People are great, culture is meh
Help Desk Support (Former Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 10 May 2023
The warehouse location has a really awesome group of people to work with. The leads are really awesome too. But the management could be better. The culture is all about numbers and the bottom line. You aren't a human there, just a cog in the machine of Fastenal.

low stress place to work
Inside Sales Representative (Current Employee) - Windsor, ON - 9 May 2023
the work hours are flexible and fellow employees are really great to work with. The learning curve is high at the beginning, but once you gain time and experience it is low stress and an easy workload to manage.
Pros
great workmates, good management, flexible hours, no evenings or weekends
Cons
very dependant on the branch you work at to have a positive experience.

Jobs at Fastenal
Good sales beginner job
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Bolton, ON - 3 May 2023
Was a good job, got to meet new and old customers daily. Great co=workers. Management was not that great from higher levels, held biases against some branches.

Bad Management
Supply Chain (Current Employee) - Ontario - 21 April 2023
This company is about the “boys club”.They are required to hire a variation of employees due to being “equal opportunity employer”, however, some management still treat females as lesser than, despite being some of the hardest and fastest workers. Employees aren’t paid what they are worth and no one seems to care if they leave, despite having such a high turnover rate, that could be improved by paying and appreciating employees more. “Growth through Customer Service” is the slogan but they seem to forget the customer service comes from the employee’s, they are the ones generating sales and service to hit sales goals. With a decent manager it’s a tolerable place to work, but the systems are awful to work with, product is overpriced and you’re expected to sell your customers on this, and they need to PAY BETTER…

Productive and fun workplace with table tennis
Sales associate (Current Employee) - valleyfield, QC - 14 April 2023
This place is great. Mind you, it's not for everyone. It's fast paced, action oriented, sales oriented and might be a bit stressful. Each location is managed independently so each review should matter for that specific location only. Valleyfield is great and the management team is solid. You might be left on your own more often than not but if you like challenges and accomplishments, this is for you!
Pros
Work-Life flexibility. All the required space to shine as a person
Cons
You are often left on your own to figure things out

Total waste of time
Supply Chain Specialist (Former Employee) - Windsor, ON - 25 February 2023
The windsor location is more like a souvlaki shop, total disaster. The manager was a general labourer and over time promoted to management due to lack of local talent, and practically ruining the company. Overall the company is great but the inept management is destroying in from within.
Pros
Some great coworkers
Cons
Inept gatekeepers and managers

Easy work NOT SO GREAT management
Sales Support (Former Employee) - Sault Ste. Marie, ON - 17 February 2023
Everything seems good until the first day of training, then it goes down hill. If you like to be micromanaged then this is the place for you... They treat employees badly and the job is so stressful, that the decent pay doesn't matter. I would rather work somewhere else for lower pay than to be treated poorly like I'm less then human.

Toxic workplace
Supply Chain Assistant (Former Employee) - Truro, NS - 17 February 2023
Management was awful. If they didn’t like you they treated you badly. Employees came and went quickly because of toxic environment. Work was physical but not difficult. Hours were good. No yearly inventory.

Fun work place, really good culture
Supply Chain Assistant (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 19 January 2023
It's really good place to work. Work culture is really good, everyone helps eachother whenever needed. Really good management. It is a good choice for entry level position, but there are not much opportunities for growth within the company.

Good or Bad depends mostly on Management
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) - Stratford, ON - 20 December 2022
Working at Fastenal depends mostly on which branch you work at. Mgmt at some are worthless and only care about themselves whereas some branches have excellent Managers and District Managers. Best to inquire ahead of time about the branch you are applying.
Pros
You learn a lot about the industry in a short time
Cons
Mgmt can ruin your career goals.

Good place to learn and start
GM (Current Employee) - Ontario - 26 November 2022
Growth opportunities narrow down/disappear as you grow. Watch your back always it is an extremely competitive work environment. No salary increase no performance reviews.

Horrible place to work.
Distribution Center Help Desk Support (Former Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 17 November 2022
Only managers get fulltime benefits. No benefits at all. Rude managers and not very understanding. They watch you like a hawk and monitoring how long it takes you to do each task. They have their favorites and if you're not it then they will make it hard for you. They also give you write ups for mistakes even when you're a few weeks in. Not the best environment. Don't work here.
