You can make most of the role but like any role you reach it max
GM (Current Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 3 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedFastenal as a company are good and the people I have met are excellent. Good people, job and good challenges. The pay could be a lot better than it is though. I have learnt a lot here from bottom to up and would recommend that to anyone. They teach you well and you do have make the most of your skill set of being hardworking, ambitious and also being a solution provider. Like any other job, there are some mundane tasks. The supply chain is also good, 95% of the time, product does come on time. But that 5% can be like Murphys Law, however this can be eradicated if you know how to work the channels to provide solutions. The people are great and definitely make the culture/environment. The only gripe with the company is that the pay doesn't reflect the stress in any role. The PT roles I feel the pay is decent. The Full-time roles, not so much, although it's higher on the commission side in terms of bonuses, it also can lead to renumaration not being consistent, which of course is dependent on growth and how stable the branch is. There will be good/bad days. If the base was higher with a fairly decent commission % this would be an amazing job.
Pros
Support, Culture, Internal promotions, Training, People
Cons
Pay on the Base side, not enough support at the branch level, constant feeling of feeling you haven't done enough

If you are a woman steer clear
Customer Solutions Consultant (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 2 October 2023
If you are a woman I would steer clear of this company. The culture is that of a hockey locker room and leadership is a group of Old Boys who have never worked anywhere else in their life. You will begin to feel like you are finding success but they will only promote men who are most like the personalities that were promoted before them. They pay very low salaries and the culture has really gone downhill.

Jobs at Fastenal
Good workplace
Sales Associate (Current Employee) - Kingston, ON - 9 August 2023
Nice working environment, friendly colleagues, and teamwork. You can learn certain skills and knowledge here, which will help you grow your career. The work pressure will not be very high, but the salary will also not be too high, unless you are engaged in sales and have a commission as a supplement.

Excellent place to work for in my opinion.
Account specialist (Current Employee) - Saskatoon, SK - 3 August 2023
Coming from 8 years at another company where if you were sick you were made fun of and bullied from taking time off to me messaging my manager "Hey i'm not feeling too good but i can still do orders i think" and them telling me to just stay home and get better, that was kind of a shock for me, still is. As long as your partner that does orders isnt off on holidays you can take off whenever. The job culture is good and i'm very proud to work where i work. The pay is fantastic. There are some stressful times of course like with all jobs but i genuinely enjoy where i work and can see myself working here for a while :)
Pros
Free lunches, good PTO, Dont have to feel bad for calling in sick, Fun work environment

People are great, culture is meh
Help Desk Support (Former Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 10 May 2023
The warehouse location has a really awesome group of people to work with. The leads are really awesome too. But the management could be better. The culture is all about numbers and the bottom line. You aren't a human there, just a cog in the machine of Fastenal.

Fun work place, really good culture
Supply Chain Assistant (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 19 January 2023
It's really good place to work. Work culture is really good, everyone helps eachother whenever needed. Really good management. It is a good choice for entry level position, but there are not much opportunities for growth within the company.

Good place to learn and start
GM (Current Employee) - Ontario - 26 November 2022
Growth opportunities narrow down/disappear as you grow. Watch your back always it is an extremely competitive work environment. No salary increase no performance reviews.

Lot work and low pay
Supply Chain Associate (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 5 October 2022
My coworkers are nice and cooperative which translate into a healthy work environment. You can learn a lot from this business and it's operations. The downside is that the pay is low.

Management is everything!
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Airdrie, AB - 9 April 2022
If you have a good manager and coworkers, this a great place to work! Nothing too difficult and can be a lot of fun! Excellent training programs. Pay could be better but I guess you can't have it all.

Great place to learn sales, but poor corporate management and support
Various Roles (Current Employee) - Canada - 11 March 2022
Fastenal obsesses over growth and sales more than any other aspect of their business. Gifted salespeople can earn very high commissions and advance quickly. Be warned the company will change its commission structure unilaterally if employees earn too much, or if they want to push a new metric (for example lowering on-hand inventory). Unfortunately the company fails to support sales talent with ops. Trucking networks are unreliable, distribution centers are understocked and branches are strangled by space, inventory and staffing constraints. Hub workers, drivers and other ops employees are badly underpaid so turnover is endless while morale and service levels suffer. Customers' orders frequently arrive late, damaged or picked incorrectly. Support for vending equipment and other technology is poor. Relations with clients usually break down because the company can't follow through on the post-sale. This is not an employer for ethnical professionals who value a long-term relationship with their accounts. These problems are an ongoing state of affairs resulting from years of corporate policy squeezing profits from today at the expense of the company's long-term wellbeing. Fastenal views employee labor as an expense to be controlled rather than an investment to be maximized. Make the mistake of caring too much and you'll end up working crazy hours with little or no corporate support meeting basic obligations to account clients who could be taken from you and handed to another employee - or a better-run competitor - tomorrow.
Pros
Learn sales and inventory management skills, independently manage your own accounts
Cons
Disengaged mid-upper management, poor ops support, uncompetitive wages

No culture and always part-time so no benefits
Traffic (Former Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 17 September 2021
No culture and always part-time so no benefits, they also provide little relevant training and will not sponsor most education opportunities. Management is a clique that very few are allowed into.

Industrial setting. Dyanamic colleagues
Management (Current Employee) - Quebec Province - 26 March 2021
Wasn’t convinced about working in an industrial setting after university, but the strength of this company really is the people. Each store is its own independent unit and working in such a small but dynamic team is really fun.
Pros
As a part time employee, no Nights or weekends! Full time employees get great benefits and competitive pay.
Cons
Somewhat outdated views towards technology.

Pros
Horaire lundi au vendredi de jour
Cons
Esprit d'équipe, gestion du personnel, avantages sociaux, travail physique, gestionnaires malhonnêtes
