Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIf you have a good group of colleagues, this is a good place to work. It is sales, so there's a certain amount of stress in hitting goals and so forth. But if your management is solid, you'll have a good life there!

People are great, culture is meh
Help Desk Support (Former Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 10 May 2023
The warehouse location has a really awesome group of people to work with. The leads are really awesome too. But the management could be better. The culture is all about numbers and the bottom line. You aren't a human there, just a cog in the machine of Fastenal.

Good sales beginner job
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Bolton, ON - 3 May 2023
Was a good job, got to meet new and old customers daily. Great co=workers. Management was not that great from higher levels, held biases against some branches.

Bad Management
Supply Chain (Current Employee) - Ontario - 21 April 2023
This company is about the “boys club”. They are required to hire a variation of employees due to being “equal opportunity employer”, however, some management still treat females as lesser than, despite being some of the hardest and fastest workers. Employees aren’t paid what they are worth and no one seems to care if they leave, despite having such a high turnover rate, that could be improved by paying and appreciating employees more. “Growth through Customer Service” is the slogan but they seem to forget the customer service comes from the employee’s, they are the ones generating sales and service to hit sales goals. With a decent manager it’s a tolerable place to work, but the systems are awful to work with, product is overpriced and you’re expected to sell your customers on this, and they need to PAY BETTER…

Dosent pay the bill's
Warehouse Manager (Former Employee) - Newmarket, ON - 10 April 2023
This place is a huge ponzie scheme, the store managers job is to sell the scheme to all the store employee's and in turn it's the employee's job to sell " cost saving benifits" on to the customer, in a vain attempt to make %20 year after year that eventualy you cant keep up, and quit.
Pros
None
Cons
44 hr weeks

Total waste of time
Supply Chain Specialist (Former Employee) - Windsor, ON - 25 February 2023
The windsor location is more like a souvlaki shop, total disaster. The manager was a general labourer and over time promoted to management due to lack of local talent, and practically ruining the company. Overall the company is great but the inept management is destroying in from within.
Pros
Some great coworkers
Cons
Inept gatekeepers and managers

Easy work NOT SO GREAT management
Sales Support (Former Employee) - Sault Ste. Marie, ON - 17 February 2023
Everything seems good until the first day of training, then it goes down hill. If you like to be micromanaged then this is the place for you... They treat employees badly and the job is so stressful, that the decent pay doesn't matter. I would rather work somewhere else for lower pay than to be treated poorly like I'm less then human.

Toxic workplace
Supply Chain Assistant (Former Employee) - Truro, NS - 17 February 2023
Management was awful. If they didn’t like you they treated you badly. Employees came and went quickly because of toxic environment. Work was physical but not difficult. Hours were good. No yearly inventory.

Jobs at Fastenal
Upper Management boys club
GM (Former Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 8 February 2023
If you’re not part of the boys club don’t count on staying too long. Training is below par. As with any other large company, you are just a number.

Fun work place, really good culture
Supply Chain Assistant (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 19 January 2023
It's really good place to work. Work culture is really good, everyone helps eachother whenever needed. Really good management. It is a good choice for entry level position, but there are not much opportunities for growth within the company.

Fast paced work environment
Operations Manager (Former Employee) - Southwestern, Ontario - 4 January 2023
Fastenal is a great place to work and gain experience to kick start a career elsewhere as you do learn quite a bit if you’re willing to do so. If you’re determined and out in the time (years) there is opportunities for advancement but you must show your worth and communicate with district managers on a regular basis. Most general managers have no say in your career advancement and do no more than sit behind a desk barking orders with little to no recognition for your efforts. Pay is well below industry average working in a branch, not to mention commission calculators change regularly to favour the company. Benefits are average, and the amount of paid time off is poor. Fastenal is no more than a great stepping stone for other career/job opportunities.

Good or Bad depends mostly on Management
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) - Stratford, ON - 20 December 2022
Working at Fastenal depends mostly on which branch you work at. Mgmt at some are worthless and only care about themselves whereas some branches have excellent Managers and District Managers. Best to inquire ahead of time about the branch you are applying.
Pros
You learn a lot about the industry in a short time
Cons
Mgmt can ruin your career goals.

Not an awful workplace
Sales Support (Former Employee) - Ontario - 28 November 2022
Nice to you in some ways, like giving a long lunch, but not nice if you don't fit in and break your back for them. No advancement opportunities. Didn't pay attention to my resume, hired me for a position I "wasn't qualified for," and kind of blamed me.

Good place to learn and start
GM (Current Employee) - Ontario - 26 November 2022
Growth opportunities narrow down/disappear as you grow. Watch your back always it is an extremely competitive work environment. No salary increase no performance reviews.

ils en veulent toujours plus, sans en donner plus.

Horrible place to work.
Distribution Center Help Desk Support (Former Employee) - Kitchener, ON - 17 November 2022
Only managers get fulltime benefits. No benefits at all. Rude managers and not very understanding. They watch you like a hawk and monitoring how long it takes you to do each task. They have their favorites and if you're not it then they will make it hard for you. They also give you write ups for mistakes even when you're a few weeks in. Not the best environment. Don't work here.

Lot work and low pay
Supply Chain Associate (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 5 October 2022
My coworkers are nice and cooperative which translate into a healthy work environment. You can learn a lot from this business and it's operations. The downside is that the pay is low.

Decent for just another corporation
Customer Service/Sales/Tech Support/Delivery/Retail Management (Current Employee) - Etobicoke, ON - 8 September 2022
You need to learn a lot about many different industrial items, and customers will be annoyed when you don't know about every obscure tool or fastener they bring up. Better pay than retail, but much much more work
