Difficult but most of the time worth it.
Field Technician (Former Employee) - Brampton, ON - 13 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhat is the best part of working at the company? The flexibility, you’re able to have your work fit around your personal schedule. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The most stress would be physical stress cause you need to be in pretty good shape to do the job. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? They’re pretty nice and inviting and they do their best to be understanding if you level with them. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Going to a warehouse talking to the warehouse manager and getting your container doing the container then leaving.

Physiclly demanding and not rewarding
Unloader (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 1 September 2023
Cons: You are basically working 15 per hour. It is better to work in McDonalds than here. No benefits, no safety training or just basic training. Pros: Schedule.

Avoid
Container Unloader (Former Employee) - Brampton, ON - 9 August 2023
There are no benefits and no consistent work or hours. The job can be easy some days and hard on the body others it depends on the location they send you. Offloading floor loaded containers by hand without equipment can be unsafe. The management are horrible and will lie to customers and you at a whim. If they like you, you get containers some days in a week and sometimes a few a day, but if not you can get only 1 a week that pays $100. They dont pay for travel or reimburse you for gas but expect you to travel all over sometimes same day. If you want something temporary or part time you could get lucky and make decent money but otherwise its unlivable wage.
Pros
The co workers are good, some locations have great people
Cons
Make $100 or less a day with no benefits and inconsistent work with awful management

Great place to work!
Unloader (Current Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 3 August 2023
Lots of opportunity for containers to offload. If you work hard it will pay off, lazy people will not make it in this field. Lace up your shoes and be ready to WORK

Work and life balance
Loader/Unloader (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 11 July 2023
You’re not paid per hour. You’re paid per container you unload. You have to be very fast with your loading skills if you want to work here. I’d rather work where I’d be paid per hour than to work here

Terrible place to work !
Labourer (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 16 April 2023
this place will string you along , use and abuse you until you are not needed anymore. When you start there you get the worst and lowest paying jobs , the worst partners. You get all the leftovers and partners you cannot communicate with. Any language besides English would be helpful here. They pay you peanuts And expect you to work for minimum wage for 10 or 12 hours a day. They won’t lay you off if they don’t have work. They will just keep giving you one or two days a week to keep you there until you are needed
Pros
Paid weekly
Cons
No overtime no benefits no english

Toxic environment starts at the top.
Site Manager (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 11 April 2023
Very poor senior management. Little to no regard for unloaders or middle management. Company constantly changes bonus structure for their benefit and not their employees. Car/gas allowance minimal meaning if Site Managers have to travel to multiple sites they will be paying out of their own pockets. Zero job security. Company has a history of getting rid of employees to save money.
Pros
none
Cons
Poor senior management. No job security

cross dock (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 30 October 2022
just the type of company that turns down great employees, doesnt answer there phone, dont respond to messages, and wont send you to a job site. try calling them right now and see if you can talk to a person and not a voice mail.

The harder you work, the more you can make.
Container Distribution Specialist (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 15 August 2022
Worked with ECM full time and then eventually part time for over 3 years. If you are a hard worker, you can make a lot of money. Sometimes it is every hard work and not a job for everyone. Some warehouse locations are better than others.

Fast Paced & Slow paced
Lumper (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 31 May 2022
The job can be good depending on what you’re unloading, most of the times you can get a 40ft container full of small boxes , and they will pay you $120 for 8 hours. Not enough after the government takes its cut. But then again , you can get a good container and be done between 30-1hr and make $120.

Do not work here
Unloader (Former Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 20 May 2022
Back breaking labour, not worth the pay, do not work here I would advise against it. You get paid by the container and this could mean packing tiny boxes into a huge container without mechanical assistance.

Customer Experience Manager (Current Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 12 March 2021
I have been with Express Container Management for over 3 years, during this time I have learned so much about logistics and management. I have worked very hard and have advanced with the company 3 times where I am now a manager in the Ontario Branch. It is a great company to work for and everyone is so hardworking and friendly. We care about our employees and want to see them grow as well.
Pros
great team, very accommodating

I make 60k a year please read to understand
Lumper (Current Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 8 March 2021
So you guys understand like every job there are a large variety of different techniques you can learn do help you do your job super fast , you need to be willing to learn or it will look hard. If you want to learn more techniques you just ask the company to teach you and they will be more then happy to help you with that but you have to speak up ! Most of guys I have seen work alone doing 2 containers a day the more experienced guys do 2 or 4 alone making 200 to 400 daily . as far as partners are concerned just learn as many techniques as you can and I promise you as a team you can do 4 Containers in 6 to 8 hours! Making 200 a day as a team The key to be successful in this trade like any other trade is to speak up and ask to learn new ways to do your job faster and promise you will 48 to 55 thousand a year and it can only increase from there
Pros
Choose your own schedule

They pay you by trailer to get around the minimum wage
Warehouse Labourer (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 1 November 2020
I would give zero stars if I had a chance. The most containers you can do in a day is three, so you get a maximum of 150 a day in 10 hrs of work. You mostly only get to do two containers in a day depending on the product you’re handling, so only about 100 a day. Rather work at McDonald’s for such low pay. Basically slave labour. Paying you by container is just a way for them to get around the minimum wage. Don’t work here.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Low pay, hard work

Official response from Express Container Management
21 December 2020We are very sorry you had this kind of experience with the containers and product that you were handling at our locations. Yes we do pay by the container but rest assured you are making well over minimum wage, should you have come to us during your time of employment we would have absolutely taken a look into this. We very much appreciate our employees and all the hard work you put into unloading / loading of containers and we always do our best to resolve any issues especially those of pay. We do service multiple locations throughout the Calgary area and as a result are able to schedule you to another location after your first has been completed. We always ask that you message us for more work should you be available. Thank you,
