Disappointed experience
Service Consultant (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 27 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedPlease apply for any position except for the Contact Center, especially RRO or HAT (Encor by EPCOR). Pay is decent for the job, but also the work is very stressful and not worth the hassle at all. You definitely will go crazy if you work more than 30 hours/week, and you are the lowest minions of this company. I cried 5 times within 2 months when I first started on the floor, and sometimes I still break down and cry in the morning before going to work. Up until now I have been feeling like I'd rather to jump off from their building than going to the queue, so I had to send in the resignation letter to release myself from this nightmare. The queue has been extremely crazy this year due to the ridiculous raise in regulated electricity rate so you will get a lot more of angry customers, and the management is such a very selfish joke, well, at least my manager and my team lead are both kind of new to their positions so I am not sure if the others are better. Upper management will act like they care about agents but in fact they do not appreciate you at all. Everything is about business; you will get constant unnecessary stress from them about your STAT report. Do not believe what they tell you about as long as you are doing your best because your report is the most important thing. They will remind you that they understand it is a difficult time for us, encourage agents to take time with customer and suggest you to take mindful moments between each call just to swipe away our frustration when we bring it up, but they calculate every single minute in the average handle time report, -
Pros
Pay rate, benefits
Cons
selfish management, no humanity, stressful

Memorable. They expect a lot but you are also rewarded and recognized for your hard work.
Customer Service Consultant (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 16 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? They are genuinely concerned with employee health and safety as it is taken very seriously. They also promote employee engagement, they will help you move toward whatever career ambitions you have, great pay and excellent benefits. The only downside side I feel is sometimes you can feel expendable (a small guy working in a large corporation). I worked for the company for 3 years trying to get on permanent full time but they had other plans at the local worksite first before filling permanent. I had to eventually moved on so I could support my family. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Epcor pays well and provides excellent benefits but they also set high expectations of their employees. They set the bar high but you are rewarded for your hard work. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? They foster a team environment with heavy emphasis on health and safety, and employee production. You are held accountable for your mistakes. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Show up for work in a secure area (don't forget your employee work badge so you can scan in!), work hard, they provide coffee machines and a clean, safe workplace. They provide a lot for emoyees but also expect at lot from you. Sometimes you miss breaks on those busy days.

Jobs at EPCOR
Amazing coffee and great management.
Energy Services Agent (Former Employee) - Downtown office, Edmonton, AB - 14 June 2023
EPCOR deserves all the accolades it receives about how great it is to work for this company. you are always supported and your manager is very easy to speak with and emails are responded to in the same day if not the same hour. Everyone is professional and the lunch room views are spectacular. The area is a bit sketchy but keep your head up and you will be fine. Parking is paid but they have a fantastic location for transit right by the Roger's Place LRT.
Pros
Snacks and unlimited top of the line coffee, convenient downtown location, excellent management with raise and promotion options.
Cons
Sketchy unhoused population congregate outside at the mission, late hours.

Good Salary, Benefits and Training But Management Not Very Responsive to Employees
Project Engineer (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 25 October 2022
EPCOR is a decent place to work with good salaries, benefits and training opportunities. The work was interesting and rewarding. Lots of rigid policies and procedures, frequent reporting. They have a very hierarchical management structure and do not solicit much employee input. They just implement things from the top down. Safety is important, but so many policies are being driven by over the top excessive "safety" requirements.
Pros
Good salary and benefits
Cons
Rigid policies with little employee input

not a bad company to work for if you are interested in water treatment
intern (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 5 August 2022
I worked at the plant, and it involved repetitive laboratory tests. Since it is a water treatment plant for the city, there is not much dynamics. Regular routine work is done most of the time. Everyone is generally very friendly and willing to help.
Pros
high pay
Cons
repetitive work

Would definitely recommend
Analyst (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 16 February 2022
My typical day at work starts with morning stretches, start of day maintenance tasks, projects, mid-day maintenance tasks. Sometimes, there are meetings and trainings within the week. Management is flexible and considerate of personal life. Workplace culture is collaborative, safety-focused and an emphasis on employee health (in all aspects)
Pros
High-salary compared to competition due to union, flex-based benefits allows customization based on personal needs, wellness account, personal development account (formal courses paid by EPCOR), donation to charity of choice if volunteering more than 30 hours, morning stretches, free parking, delicious coffee and tea choices, gym and shower on site, work-life balance
Cons
Job tenure happens after 10 years

Absolutely brutal management
IT Analyst (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 30 December 2021
This company has terrible management. The ethics guidelines are not adhered to, lying is acceptable behaviour, and compensation and advancement is based on favouritism, not competency. This is the worse company I ever worked for.
Pros
None come to mind
Cons
Overpaid management with poor ethics, The corporate executives are oblivious about what is going on downstairs, It is a very unhappy and threatening atmosphere.

Nice place to work. Good pay.
Utility Worker (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 5 April 2021
Great benefits, good people to work with. However the union structure protects lazy coworkers in many departments. Management couldn't manage their way out of a cardboard box constantly changing crew structures in an attempt to streamline what, I do not know. The best equipment and tools and great home work life balance. I'd go back and work there if I could.
Pros
Equipment, fair pay, union, worklife balance.
Cons
Poor performance by many, union, seniority system, they do not fight to keep good people.

Mgrs & foreman -just not right fit!
Product Sales Manager (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 20 January 2020
I was there 2000 & the foreman were useless! I was in sales would send emails & they wouldn't reply. Even some mgrs. were over there head in their job position-didn't deserve the title was just given it. Apparently some foreman & mgrs today In 2019 are still useless! The union culture for some is a poison & some love that type of culture. Really good benefits, once your in your in even if not a good worker.

I would recommend not to apply for a job there
Labourer 2 (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 8 August 2019
Management is terrible but the employees are great. They will pick the lazy workers over the workers who show up and do their jobs. If you are a person who sucks up you will have job. It doesn't go by how good of worker you are and show up on time. It's like daytime soap opera there all the time also. Benefits and pay is good.
Pros
good pay good benefits
Cons
Management is terrible
