Disappointed experience

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Please apply for any position except for the Contact Center, especially RRO or HAT (Encor by EPCOR). Pay is decent for the job, but also the work is very stressful and not worth the hassle at all. You definitely will go crazy if you work more than 30 hours/week, and you are the lowest minions of this company. I cried 5 times within 2 months when I first started on the floor, and sometimes I still break down and cry in the morning before going to work. Up until now I have been feeling like I'd rather to jump off from their building than going to the queue, so I had to send in the resignation letter to release myself from this nightmare. The queue has been extremely crazy this year due to the ridiculous raise in regulated electricity rate so you will get a lot more of angry customers, and the management is such a very selfish joke, well, at least my manager and my team lead are both kind of new to their positions so I am not sure if the others are better. Upper management will act like they care about agents but in fact they do not appreciate you at all. Everything is about business; you will get constant unnecessary stress from them about your STAT report. Do not believe what they tell you about as long as you are doing your best because your report is the most important thing. They will remind you that they understand it is a difficult time for us, encourage agents to take time with customer and suggest you to take mindful moments between each call just to swipe away our frustration when we bring it up, but they calculate every single minute in the average handle time report, -

Pros

Pay rate, benefits

Cons

selfish management, no humanity, stressful

Memorable. They expect a lot but you are also rewarded and recognized for your hard work.

What is the best part of working at the company? They are genuinely concerned with employee health and safety as it is taken very seriously. They also promote employee engagement, they will help you move toward whatever career ambitions you have, great pay and excellent benefits. The only downside side I feel is sometimes you can feel expendable (a small guy working in a large corporation). I worked for the company for 3 years trying to get on permanent full time but they had other plans at the local worksite first before filling permanent. I had to eventually moved on so I could support my family. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Epcor pays well and provides excellent benefits but they also set high expectations of their employees. They set the bar high but you are rewarded for your hard work. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? They foster a team environment with heavy emphasis on health and safety, and employee production. You are held accountable for your mistakes. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Show up for work in a secure area (don't forget your employee work badge so you can scan in!), work hard, they provide coffee machines and a clean, safe workplace. They provide a lot for emoyees but also expect at lot from you. Sometimes you miss breaks on those busy days.

Amazing coffee and great management.

EPCOR deserves all the accolades it receives about how great it is to work for this company. you are always supported and your manager is very easy to speak with and emails are responded to in the same day if not the same hour.Everyone is professional and the lunch room views are spectacular. The area is a bit sketchy but keep your head up and you will be fine. Parking is paid but they have a fantastic location for transit right by the Roger's Place LRT.

Pros

Snacks and unlimited top of the line coffee, convenient downtown location, excellent management with raise and promotion options.

Cons

Sketchy unhoused population congregate outside at the mission, late hours.

Good Salary, Benefits and Training But Management Not Very Responsive to Employees

EPCOR is a decent place to work with good salaries, benefits and training opportunities. The work was interesting and rewarding. Lots of rigid policies and procedures, frequent reporting. They have a very hierarchical management structure and do not solicit much employee input. They just implement things from the top down. Safety is important, but so many policies are being driven by over the top excessive "safety" requirements.

Pros

Good salary and benefits

Cons

Rigid policies with little employee input

Fune place to work but depending on who you report to

I had a good time working here but my nightmare started when my Manager PMO felt threatened by how good I knew my job. There is no room for growth here.

Pros

good pay and benefit

Cons

long hours, no room for growth

Absolutely brutal management

This company has terrible management. The ethics guidelines are not adhered to, lying is acceptable behaviour, and compensation and advancement is based on favouritism, not competency. This is the worse company I ever worked for.

Pros

None come to mind

Cons

Overpaid management with poor ethics, The corporate executives are oblivious about what is going on downstairs, It is a very unhappy and threatening atmosphere.

It was an extremely stressful work environment that I am grateful to be out of.

Company has the opportunity to be a great employer, however they do not follow what they claim they are about. The company lies to their customers, and continually looks for more ways to reduce the ability to provide good customer care.

Pros

Good pay depending on position

Cons

No loyalty to employees

Work, work some more, repeat

Averaged about 9-10 hours a day, finished all my deliverables and was rewarded with more work and less time to do it. Issues were communicated, contract was ended. Saw a revolving door of resources leaving with contractors and employees moving on. Not a great balance. Great place if work is your life.

Fun place to work with great co workers and a awesome job/life balance.

Working at epcor was a good experience for me. I would recommend people apply working here because the job life balance is perfect. They have you work four ten hour days, they also have the option for overtime.

Poorly managed

Certain managers were over their head in their given roles. These people love the title "Mgr." but don't fully understand the role & duties. During my time that was the case even with certain foreman from the St.albert trail location during 2000-2004. Foreman didn't wAnt to be accountable & their Mgr. did not hold them to it either. Extremely Frustrating in my role at the time.

Worked with a good bunch of guys

Pretty hard to get on with EPCOR Utilities. Depending on where you are placed, you could be pigeonholed with no opportunity to advance. Nepotism is evident everywhere. People with multiple DO NOT REHIRE recommendations are hired over other competent employees.

Challenging and rewarding

Opportunity to utilize customer service skills and upgrade . Support for learning and growing with a large company. Chance to work in different areas of operation

Pros

Cons

Watch your back ...

Terrible managers ... highly incompetent and will not hesitate to throw you under the bus for failures that are their responsibility. Stressful work environment. Lack of transparency. People get fired all the time. I would not work here again -- despite there being good people/co-workers and good work-life balance opportunities. Not worth the mental stress of dealing with bad managers, a complicit HR department and a culture that revolves around backstabbing others to get ahead. Just sad that good people who work hard get treated so badly ... avoid!

Was forced to resign due to injuries

Started off as the dream job until I was injured in a hockey accident and then forced to resign with no good reason I would never recommend working for them especially when they leave you and your family stranded.
