Good fit for people with no experience, no expectations
Receptionist (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 1 January 2021
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedMost of the tasks of a receptionist here should be done by someone with legitimate education/knowledge. For example, making up medications and signing patients in and out for surgical procedures, as well as taking histories. There is very high stress at this vet clinic, high staff turnover and burnout and if you stay late or apply yourself diligently to help other employees you will never receive a thank you or adequate compensation. Reception handles euthanasia appointments by themselves, meaning that on certain days you could be doing over 10 of these sensitive, emotionally draining appointments by yourself. If you have never worked in a clinic then work here but know you may be learning things incorrectly and picking up bad habits and shortcuts. They are very money focused and will take in more patients than they have room for, infections spread from rescue animals to paying clients’ pets which is unacceptable.
Pros
Busy, fast-paced, dynamic
Cons
No defined breaks despite the ESA requirements, cut corners, conveyer belt medicine, high burnout, high turnover

Management sucks.
Tech Assistant (Former Employee) - 1175 Stone Church - 29 August 2022
There is a lot of drama and gossip at this hospital. Most of it is caused by management and they place the blame on others. The owners treat and talk to the staff very poorly. There is a lot of favouritism. They change their protocols every other day so you never know what is right and what is wrong. You constantly get yelled at for the same things that are not you’re fault and when trying to explain yourself they yell at you, and tell you don’t know better then a doctor. You are never allowed to have you’re own opinion. Never talk to anyone unless you want it to get around the whole clinic. No benefits or raise like promised after your 3 months is done. Very unprofessional environment and management.
Cons
Unfair treatment

Amazing Clinic
Receptionist (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 9 September 2021
I have worked here for some time now and thoroughly enjoy it! The knowledge gained during my employment has been an asset, and the work environment is great. Management is fair and encouraging, and they offer job advancement opportunities as they become available. Wage is fair and liveable. But more importantly the patients are extra fluffy and sweet.
Pros
Paid Breaks, Work Environment, Management, Owners, Patients

Extremely poor management, toxic environment
Veterinary Assistant (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 15 August 2020
There is a lot of favouritism towards certain employees, unfair treatment for others. If they really like your personality - your in luck! Some have earned their veterinary technician diploma and not given the opportunity to practice technician skills, while certain veterinary assistants, who may still be in school are consistently given the chance to develop their skills instead. Owners or management do not care or try to assist in any advancement or progression in your skills. They only care about the almighty dollar! Pay is extremely low. You can voice your opinion or thoughts numerous times to management or owners and it falls upon deaf ears. This company simply does not care about their employees or their happiness.

Not fun.
Animal Care Attendant (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 14 May 2020
Starting out at this job is great. Until you get in about a month and you think everything is going fine. Things start to happen. The owners will fight you on every hour worked, especially if she thinks you’re lying about it. Dock pay without any notice or simply not pay you the hours on your sheet. Get asked repeatedly to work overtime but not get paid for it. Not worth the stress for little pay.

Vet tech
Vet technician (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 29 April 2020
One of the worst place to work. I was verbally abused, emotionally abused and financially abused. Was paid below average wage. You get asked to work after your shift but money was not given for those hours even for emergencies. Belittled and yelled at by owner in front of customers. There were fights among staff members. It’s a very toxic environment with a fast burn out rate , hence the constant ad for new staff members

Great learning experience especially for new grads
full time Register Veterinary Technician (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 28 April 2020
This clinic is a great clinic to learn from. Lot of hands on experience. Great opportunity for new grads and those that like to work in a fast pace environment but not ready for an emergency hospital atmosphere. Staff are over all friendly and get along well.
Pros
great learning opportunity
Cons
fast pace which might not fit everyone

Not a healthy place to work
Receptionist (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 4 October 2019
Simply put, it's an unhealthy work environment. Management has absolutely no experience as management, owners of the clinic are rude, unorganised and will try to cut your pay whenever possible, and no, they will not notify you or provide any reason. Owners allow clients to abuse/harrass staff, and will not defend their staff. Hours are long, no overtime pay, you'll be bombarded with responsibilities but no paid compensation, no pay advancement at all. Doctors are not properly educated/trained, for most doctors English is a second language and require other staff members to translate to clients, doctors are not confident in their treatments, while also carrying the mind set 'not my patient, not my problem'. Absolutely no team work, a lot of arguing amongst staff, no organization, very stressful and unhealthy work environment. Owner has explicitly stated she does not care about the staff.

Jobs at East Mountain Animal Hospital
Stressful and unorganized
Reception (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 27 September 2019
Stressful and unorganized. Will argue over your pay and sometimes not pay the hours they should. Have gone without being paid. English of the Dr's are a second language and causes headaches with clients.

Horrible place to work
Vet Assistant (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 29 June 2019
Manager knows nothing about how a hospital should run. Has no experience at all. Compares how people work in other countries, and expects Canadian employees to work the same.
Pros
None
Cons
Long hours overworked no overtime
