Really fun place to work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Great place to work, good tips. Only downfall is management at the moment other than that it’s good! It’s a good place to start out and gain experience, And there is lots of room to grow.

Pros

Discounted food, tips

Cons

Management

Awful management even worse hours

They hire way too many hosts to evenly distribute hours. Some will get a solid 2-3 shifts a week and others end up if they’re lucky with 1 shift. The tip out is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to host. No one can live off of pocket change for tips.

Pros

Great coworkers

Cons

No hours and very little tips

Poor place to work

Over worked and not paid enough, rude fellow employees and managers make it difficult to enjoy work and do well at it. Only good part was free food during training

Cons

Low pay, no breaks

Co-workers were fun and friendly. Management team was completely unfair, more worried about the earnings than about the people who worked there.

Management team was a mess, starting from the regional chef, they all were always more worried about the earnings than about their team. The culture there is just to overwork the employees and convince them they belong to a family so it’s ok to cover more than one position at the time so “the family” can succeed but there’s not such a family, just a bunch of exploiters taking advantage of immigrant workers that doesn’t know their rights.

Pros

N/a

Cons

Discrimination, harassment, unfair wages.

Not great

Just a bad time. Cliquey management and staff, if you don’t want to stay there forever and haven’t been there since the beginning… don’t bother. Overall not a great place and compensation is poor with their excessive tip out

Pros

None

Cons

I’ve been called an “earls girl”

The company need to take a look at its leadership and invest into its workforce.

Never enough staff, not enough budget for training, inexperienced or arrogant leadership. Overpriced for food quality. Don't pay enough for what you do. Its a never ending cycle of people quiting and new young people without experience replacing them.

Pros

Good people for the most part.

Cons

Pay, unfair expectations, lack of experienced leaders, outdated management style, head office only sees numbers and lack of forward thinking

Great place to work!

Great job to start your career. The people are amazing and lots of opportunity to grow if you are willing to work hard. Management is great, lots of mentors.

Beware!

I worked the opening of their Yorkdale location and the month I spent there can easily be considered the worst month of my life.Shifts are cut an hour before you’re supposed to show up.Tip out is ridiculously high, and you’ll only ever have a 3 table section.Management will only ever give positive feedback but fire individuals for superficial reasons. I watched several people get fired for very minute reasons. No job security. They CONSTANTLY make comments about your APPEARANCE, never your abilities, what you need to work on etc., seems like they are more focused on how you look rather than the service you provide. All in all, I’d just say stay away. They’ve lost a lot of their “core values” and “family” atmosphere

Pros

Friendly coworkers

Cons

Lacks job security, non inclusive work environment, superficial management

so aids

awful place, this place is a cess pool filled with egregious crabby middle managers who have thrown their lives away to "grow" with a restaurant. Which really means they are a bunch of angry salty failed creatives and take it out on the younger people

Corporate restaurant-want everyone to act a certain way

It was overall very good for me, as a good looking white female. But for lots, if you didn't have the looks or the earls vibe then they would push you out somehow (make you wanna quit). Otherwise the money was really good and coworkers there were the reason I kept going back. Management has work to do tho.

Anyway, there is an experience and training in every job.

What is the best part of working at the company?Apparently friendly work environment What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Adverse management of work scheduleWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company? With all the weaknesses, the environment is goodWhat is a typical day like for you at the company? The system and management of work results are important to them, not the people who work and make efforts. And what happens to them?

Good money unfair expectations

Pretty great money and my coworkers were very nice and fun to be around. The only problem was the expectations management put on partners. Their standards were too high for what we got in return

Bad pay for a terrible work-life

Tips are poor, bosses don't care for you, they cut your hours daily,no benefits of any sort. This place is made for you to have no growth or a solid income.

Pros

Nice co-workers

Cons

Lots of work for a bad pay. Bosses don't care about you. Massive turnover.

it was okay. it was very tiring and hard. as a shot you are always supposed to be busy and you get yelled at by servers. you also get paid minimum wage and the work is above that

The overall experience of this job sent me into a depression and caused severe anxiety.

What is the best part of working at the company?Toxic company that does not value the well being of their employees. Stay away! What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Never feeling like you’d get the amount of shifts you asked for in order to afford your cost of living and rent/mortgage What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Very Toxic work environment. Awful company to work for. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Stressful and full of anxiety about being sent home after 3 hours so the company can save money

It’s Earls

It’s okay.. not the best place, not the worst. Management definitely picks favourites and if you aren’t one of them it’s is not as enjoyable. Still a good place to start out at. Depending on the location the girls who have worked there for awhile can be extremely rude

Good place to work while I was in school

Fair pay, hard work, but decent place to work. If you take it as an opportunity to learn and enjoy who you are working with, it's a fun time. Got me through school

Seasonal employment

The location I worked at was very seasonal as it is a tourist town in the summers. The location I worked at had a patio and dining room/bar. You had to be someone that worked there already to get any sort of shift of priority. Good opportunity to make money but very corporate. Everyone is easily replaceable/forgotten about

Only viable if you need work experience, you're just replacement fodder for the people that keep leaving.

When I started I was surrounded by about 7-8 other new employees. The person who gave us our orientation told us about how we would have a lot of oppourtunities to grow, learn, how we would be trained for all stations quickly. Do not believe these promises, I believe that I am the only person from that original group to last more than 5 months, most I dont ever even recall seeing in the kitchen. Up until leaving I was stuck on the same station. When I asked about moving onto new ones and being trained, I was told that it would happen when they felt I was 100% comfortable with where I was at, months later and that never happened. You are expected to learn on your own in an environment which can be busy and you dont have time to leave where you're at in order to learn, and then maybe you'll be lucky to get a shift on a different station, only to be put back mid shift because the person in charge of scheduling forgot to assign someone else there so back you go. You'll constantly see new people coming in and out because they cannot keep chefs due to this, you will almost never see someone get trained for a new station and be replaced by someone else. If they pick you out as a favorite, you'll get lucky and move up further. I've seen multiple people get more chances than me that have been there for a shorter period of time that me just because they're buddy buddy with certain people in the kitchen. Most importantly, your hours will be terrible. I was told multiple times that it would get more busy in the upcoming weeks and months, yet I can count on one hand how many weeks I've worked -

Pros

Flexible work schedule/hours, good and friendly sous chefs

Cons

Very little chance of moving up and learning, terrible pay and hours.
