Always hiring yet current employees sit at home slowly going broke

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Most problems with this company all stem from head office management, not so much each individual office. Any employee is considered easily replaceable. And in result of that, nobody is kept busy working because once you’re gone they can always just replace you. pay is poor, morale is low, and communication or lack there of is poor as well. Incompetent and lazy employees are kept around just in case there is a job to fill. Pay cuts are given without being notified. Benefits are poor, that is when you actually have them. May sit around for weeks with no work and not a phone call but when that call finally comes in you’re expected to drop what your doing and go. Local station management staff were typically fair to deal with. This job relies heavily on oil and gas industry and it’s economy, so when the industry isn’t busy neither will you be. This can’t be controlled by HSE but they also make no attempt to keep their employees working through these times. Just layoffs instead. Would not recommend working here.

Pros

A good way to learn about the industry

Cons

Inconsistency of work, low pay, too many “managers” just collecting an undeserved salary

Cons

A place to start a career in the oilfield.

This is not a company you can have a proper career in oil and gas. Go get a trade or proper schooling. It's a good starter job for young people or a place older people could go before retirement.

Pros

Part time work. You can work as much or little has you want

Cons

Poor training, stressful, undervalued, underpaid

Very disorganized, everything takes forever, low pay

Unfortunately would not recommend. Did the phone interview & was told that he will contact me tomorrow and didn't hear from him again. Four different people contacted me for a position over 2 months period and at the end they had given the job I applied for to someone else. They are super slow to get things done. Extremely frustrating. Pay is low for industry standard.

Cons

Low wage

Terrible management

Management is a bunch of city slicker University grads who have zero field experience. Lots of favoritism and nepotism in this company. The better you kiss management and dispatches back sides, the better gigs you'll get. Its all about the big kiss up with this company. They don't care how well you do your job, its all dependant on the size of your brown nose.Training is grossly insufficient at HSE, especially for those new to the patch. This is because the trainers have never been to the field and have no idea what they are talking about. Can't learn field work in university. They will just throw newbies to the wolves, to the detriment of the oilfield crews they are backing up. There are some crazy managers at HSE. Very volatile and paranoud men who are convinced certain people are out to get them. Making threats against employees in the presence of other employees. Real loose cannons, they are.I really liked most of the staff I worked with and met at HSE. The managers are the ones dragging this company down.

Pros

A meager wage

Cons

Incompetent management

Great HR Team

Fantastic company to work for. The HR Management Team was very supportive & offered whatever training was necessary to complete the tasks that were given. While you often hear "This is the way we have always done it so it will stay that way" from employers, their HR Team did not follow this. In doing so, if someone had an idea to make things more efficient or easier, it was accepted with excitement and encouragement. (AWESOME!)The only thing that would be mentioned as a con would be the mindset of some co-workers who did not want to accept change and had a negative view of certain policies and/or procedures that made it difficult to complete your work as effectively as you could.

Pros

HR Team is fantastic

Cons

Old-school mindset of some of the Managers

Great job for someone who doesn’t mind being away from home

If you don’t mind being away from home for months at a time then this is the perfect job for you. They hire you as a “casual employee” and never allow you to work your way up to part time or full time but expect you to work 24 days straight, give you a “refresh” day and then start working all over again. For being in a position that manages the complete safety of other workers you would expect to make more money hourly. You make a lot of money over time but in return you give up your social and family life.

Pros

Free training

Cons

Never home. Pay sucks. Management sucks.

No room to grow, and pay is awful

Head management is awful, they run everything like they pick a recommendation out of a fishbowl. They wonder why so many people leave... Maybe it's the poor management, employee harassment, or the extremely low pay they give you with no raises while they profit off of you... Even if you worked there for years. Very hard to keep morale up while working for this company. There's good employees there who are good at their job, it's a shame that they don't pay them what they're worth. Try to avoid this dumpster fire and go to the other local companies that will pay you more off the hop.

Pros

Good co-workers

Cons

Poor pay, bad management, cheap

Professional attitude toward workplace-little to no room for advancement for new hires

Very professional in regard to policy and documentation. If you are a new employee however, work is sparce and they cater to their long-time employees who get a lot more work than higher-experienced.

Poor Raise Structure

There was not a good system set up to receive pay raises, they were "group" raises - ie. All medics received a day rate increase. I was told there were no individual raises to be given, which made it frustrating when a brand new hire who was fresh to the job was making the same as employees who had been with the company for many years. It made for low incentive.

not a good experience

Worked for this company for ahwile. My experience with this comany was not a good one and here is why: First thing that was a red flag... was working alot longer days then i was told we were going to be working which is alright if we were going to be paid for it, which we were not. A few people quit for this reason and were easy replaced (seemed to be a trend, why are they ALWAYS looking for people). The vehicle we were supplied with was a nightmare, i think every light on the dash was on and did not run well, had very little heat in the cab and none in the back (MTC) for any patients in the winter. Supplys were often expired and was a hastle to get new supplys to site. Managment that was in charge for ordering supplys has no knowledge reguarding the medical side of things, became frustrating. The owner was very rude, only looked out for the benifit of the company and never took the thought of the employees into consideration.. (the one whos making her the money...) Managment was rude to deal with 98% of the time. After leaving this company and hearing all different sorts of simular issues from others i wish i would have know this before and saved myself the years of stress.

Poor hr and won’t help you

Was assaulted and constantly harassed by employee and that employee talked very badly about the company to staff and even worse yet customers and hr would do nothing about it even after going to management first. Had to leave as things just got worse and hr said all they did was modify the policies and no one even got fired or suspended . Wow....

Productive, fun people to work with

The pay reflects the type of work that is required of their employees. The volatility of the industry is one thing that I did not find attractive; it was tough being uncertain of knowing where / if you would continue working once a job ended. There were also many times you would be told work would last 2 weeks, and would only turn out to be a 3-day job. Overall, the people are fun to work with, but understand that there are politics and people undermining others to reap the benefit of remaining on more steady gigs than others, if that's what it took. I'd recommend working here if you have something else on the side, because the work just isn't stable. Benefits can also be looked at being introduced for field employees.

No Work place Culture or any hope of getting any training .

Think of any where else . Then you will be happy . Very poor Workplace culture , Management makes a living at not doing anything . They are closing more DXP/HSE offices or Firing Management ,6 months to a year for most Management then there fired .

Poor.

For emergency work. Take it. U have to join union. That can be good or bad depending on your situation. HSE plays favourites, keeps people poor. Work tons then nothing for long periods. While other working tons and u are starving. Terrible training. Rescue teams ... Lol

great place to work

HSE placed me at a permanent site which I enjoyed staying at for almost 3 years. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for work in the oil and gas industry

Goal Oriented and Fair at the same time

Working there was good, good people, good support when you needed it and when the work was there, lots of hours. As a Safety Rep, the work was touch and go but when I worked the money was awesome. As is the case with any Oilfield/Construction work, the Customer can promise all kinds of work, but if something changes, you're out of the site and sitting, but that is not HSE's fault. If you want to work and don't mind a few off days or even a week or two, go for it!

Wouldn't recommend

Very poor work culture and environment. Huge divide between office and field workers leads to resentment. HR department lacks leadership and professionalism.

Pros

None

Cons

Poorly managed from the top down.
