Multidisciplinary health care setting with efforts to change HIV & AIDS care for the better.
Recreation Therapist - Dr. Peter Centre Residence (Current Employee) – Vancouver, BC – 12 August 2019
For the past 13 years, I have had a very interesting and stimulating career as a Recreation Therapist at the Dr. Peter Centre. For instance, over time my position has provided me with challenging yet rewarding opportunities that have allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. My principal job at the DPC is to plan, design, implement, and evaluate leisure and recreation programs, whose purpose is to enhance the lives of the clients I work with. Over the years, I have been able to see tangible outcomes of my work including clients’ increased sense of competence and self-determination and increased ability to make healthy leisure choices that, eventually, enable them to take control of their own lives and live independently or semi-independently in the community. In addition, I was also able to supervise, mentor, and work along RT, OT, AT, and MT students and numerous volunteers. In sum, by working in one of the leading HIV/AIDS health care facilities in North America, I am able be a part of a multidisciplinary team’s efforts to change the HIV & AIDS healthcare community for the better.
