Job Culture
Political, disorganized, slow and inefficient
UNIX Systems Administrator (Former Employee) –  Montréal, QC25 March 2019
Although Desjardins has great rewards in terms of overall benefits, it is polluted by a stinky smog of politics and defensive strategies culture. If you're a political beast, you'll be delighted. If not then, don't go there. There is no advancement for you, if trying to change mentalities you'll be greeted by great smiles and no support for your actions. Management staff suffers from in-breeding as it comes from an insider "culture". Management staff does not hesitate at nepotic manoeuvers to get the backup they need : their long-time friends or ex-colleagues get hired easily and there is a questionable ethics on that matter. There are no professionnal managers in the lower stages - most of them could not do the work their staff works on. It's all staff that's been laying around for 10 years or more in the shop and that gets promoted - uncritical for the most part of it as shown by the brown they have on their nose. Having worked there for a good part of their life, they have a limited experience of the outside world rules and best practices, so they're unable to get things organized efficiently. As far as what I learned, is how inefficient an organisation can be when having access to unlimited capital.
Pros
Flexible hours, good benefits.
Cons
Inefficient, no advancement unless you're politically involved. Laxist and self-protective management staff.

Going through a major negative change
Auto Physical Damage Claims Specialist (Former Employee) –  Mississauga, ON17 February 2019
The direction of the company is not clear. Every office is doing their own thing. The workload for adjusters is to high and the salary is very low. Processes change weekly which makes it difficult to maintain a positive work environment.
Pros
In Mississauga
Cons
No clear direction provided to the employees.

Conseiller- Prix de revient (Current Employee) –  Montréal, QC21 January 2019
Good place to work with a lot of benefits for employees. The bad side is it's a lot of politics in this company. Often you advance in your career based on if you are in some cercles or not

A typical office job, great managers, great support. The only thing I can make a remark on is salary, its slow moving and takes time to get to something that matches the industry

Actuarial Advisor (Former Employee) –  Mississauga, ON8 August 2018
Good company. Management is very good and cares about staff. However they are on the cheap side regarding benefits. Staff is friendly however there is a fair bit of competition for promotions which I found led to back-stabbing.

Top-notch
Conseiller, Service à la clientèle (Former Employee) –  Montréal, QC30 April 2018
I grew up with Desjardins, so I'm a bit biased. It was a really good company to work for. At first I was happy with the salary offered, but when I got there for my first day I got to know awesome people that gradually became more than just formal coworkers. That means going to work was fun. Management was in on it too to a certain degree. It's not to say that no work gets done. In fact, the team was setup with individuals within it that would challenge one another. There were incentives.
