Personal Support Worker in Nursing

Don’t work here if you enjoy breaking your body
Constantly short staffed. ALWAYS calling you for help to come in early or stay late. Very heavy workload and some staff aren’t willing to help. Management doesn’t help period. Many staff members are burnt out or are on modified. Don’t work here unless you want to break your body doing this job.

Productive and fast-paced
All my colleagues are professional, I enjoy working with them all. Great training program available for new employees. I like the environment and my new colleagues were very welcoming, willing to show me work routines, and likes and dislikes of residents.

Do not work here!
No room for progression, you have to work by yourself on front desk, and don't expect help from management if you have a question. They expect you to know everything even if you just started working there. Unfortunately sometimes the work load could be too much, and you may not have enough time to finish. May have to work on breaks on evening shift, because you are expected to do filing before you finish. The filing cabinet is in the staff room and you cannot leave front desk. RN's are supposed to take over when you go for break, I had to continue to take calls when it was my break. Management will tell you that you are doing a great job, than have continued "meetings" about issues that are out of your control and blame you. They will micro-manage you and only point out mistakes, not give any suggestions on how to improve and let you go without any warning. Job probation was based on how many hours you did not how long been there for. Didn't get many hours, only worked two 4 hour evening shifts and every other weekend. They make it impossible to get past probation so they can get rid of you faster. Can be highly stressful job as seem to be constantly short-staffed.

Wonderful atmosphere, with steady activities for the seniors
This was a volunteer job, and for me allowed to further advance my soft skills, and a few technical as well. Everyone there really did their utmost to keep the residents happy
