It can be a very fun environment to work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Working here was good at first, it was great learning about the pastries and meeting all the customers that came in . But the upper management sucks and will make you not want to go to work some days. They really do need to work on the people they choose to hire to give the management positions. This is honestly a good place to work, you just have to be able to tolerate very horrible management that just micromanages and belittles you. And this is the reason for their very high turn over

Pros

Learning about the danish culture and pastries

Cons

Upper management, Vey high turn over

Productive and very nice place to work.

Hello everyone working as a production Manager from past 2 years. Very friendly place to work. All the staff are Amazing. Very nice place to Manage. We make excellent Danish pastries and bread. All the pastries are hand made and excellent quantity. If we are lucky we see our Boss once a year not like other places Boss is bugging all the time. Our company is growing very fast soon we are going to have 16 stores. I recommend 1 million % to work here.

Good Barista Coffee Experience

A good experience as a barista. There was managers who focussed on coffee and they came in to train us. The main coffee manager was experienced and taught us about nordic coffee. The way they wanted us to work was very specific which sometimes was frustrating but I did learn new things. The main focus of the stores is pastry so we would get coffee sales on the side usually. There are a lot of regular customers who we got to know and the pastries are good. Our store manager had been there a long time and she was goo to work with but other staff had complained about their managers at other stores. I wish we could get more tips - they dont have tip cups. Overall was a good place to work

Pros

Training, nice customers, fun staff

Cons

Less tips

Great place to work

I worked in the pastry chef department and was responsible for preparing and baking a variety of tartes, cakes, roulade and other Danish pastry chef items. It was a bit of a challenge to learn at first as most of products were new to me. But it was fun to learn and rewarding to see the focus on quality and to see the customer feedback and products being sold in the stores. I worked in the plant which is new and very clean. We had our own changing rooms and there is plenty of space to work. Most of the work is volume production, but there is limited automation for pastry chefs and everything is made fresh from scratch so meeting daily production can be stressful at times. They need more automation. The pastry team was great to work with and it is a family environment. Our manager was demanding but fair and the work was well organized. There is an employee discount (20%) and the wages paid were better than other locations.

Pros

Modern, clean work environment, learning new products, quality

Cons

Limited automation

Very high commitment to quality / entrepreneurial environment

Management is clearly passionate about product quality - products are made through the night and are very high quality. There are a lot of regular customers so that makes the store environment easy to work in. There is a lot of flexibility for store managers as it is a high growth environment and policies and practices are not totally refined. Entrepreneurial culture significant opportunities for promotion

Upper Management SUCKS!!!

Things were going good when I first got hired. Above minimum wage but later found out no benefits and barely any discount on food when other places at least let you have a coffee or something free or at least a better discount. Coworkers are great and it's not a stressful job. At least it wasn't until you find out upper management is watching you like a hawk and frequent visits to your store put you on edge. I was a good employee, I did what needed to be done and was mostly always on task but I was expected to be an expert in doing tasks in which I had barely gotten trained in. Upper management plays favorites and doesn't even care if you do your job as long as you smile and talk to customers. Serve incorrectly done drinks to customers? Who cares!!! as long as you smile !! Upper management also wants staff to do a bunch of hard things without the extra time to do them. How is staff expected to scrub the walls or clean the dumb boat hanging from the ceiling if we only have an hour to clean up at the end of the day, and it takes about 50 minutes to clean the entire store and that's IF you're fully staffed. Honestly, don't bother working here unless you want to kiss up to upper management, and trust me, theres gunna be a lot of it so pucker up.

No trust, strict policies

Sure, stores having cameras is normal. What's not normal is that the owner (whom I've never met) is constantly watching us for mistakes, reviewing footage every night. What's not normal is when the regional manager comes up from behind, puts a hand on your shoulder, and says "I've been watching you". The policies are unclear, and criticism is met harshly. I asked why we had to give day-old bread for samples and was told I was "welcome to [quit]" if I didn't like it. A month in, I was told we weren't supposed to check out our own food anymore and to have a coworker do it. I asked the manager about it, he said, "Don't worry about it". Today I bought myself some food, didn't want to bother the assistant manager (who knew what I was doing), and checked myself out. A few hours later, he fired me for it. Told me I was "stealing".

Terrible upper management

Bunch of newbs running the show who had no idea's what they doing. No job security , no benefits and very low salary. If you want to grow in your carrier this is not the company for you. They made and will show you that you will have very good carrier opportunities since they are opening store everywhere very quickly but not worth the long hours and no compensation for your time.

Stay away

I’ll start off by saying HR is super unprofessional and rude. I was being interviewed for a store manager position and was told I would receive an email (which I did). After I replied to the email there was no response. I continuously emailed HR MULTIPLE TIMES to then having to resort to messaging the regional manager. I eventually had a phone interview with the HR lady as she was bashing my resume telling me that it was poorly done. (Mind you, I was a recruiter myself for a long time). I then get offered a position much further from my house?? The position wasn’t even the position that I wanted. I was told that I wasn’t qualified for the position I was applying for. My my... I could’ve been told that in the beginning instead of waiting and waiting to get contacted for over 3 weeks??!!! On top of the regional manager and HR both reviewing my resume!!! My advice, please please stay far away from this place. Very unorganized from management and HR.

Awful, disorganized, and poorly managed company full of liars and two faced people

Stay away!!! I was hired on the spot with a phone interview that lasted 3 minutes which I should have clued in as a red flag. They initially told me "oh yeah we probably lost your original application and were hoping you would reapply." lol???? But hey, I needed a job. Upper management is disgusting. No direction to store level employees (even store managers) they prioritize their favorite stores even though some might be busier than others. It's their way or the highway. They have multiple people doing jobs that NEED a designated affiliate. For example the HR persons are doing inventory.. ?? no? You are constantly shorted on pay both hours and money totaled. 15/hour doesnt mean much when you work 80 hours and get paid for 65.. Food orders get "lost" mysteriously, or are full of errors. Some DMs (district managers) will have meetings with the store management and say things that SHOULD BE SAID PRIVATELY well within ear shot of the entire store. Tell them you're danish, and you're guaranteed a management position. That show gross this company is. In the little period of time I was there we lost 6 people and no one was hired to replace them..? Not everyone wants to work 40 hours a week ffs. DO YOUR JOB. The only reason I have given 2 2 star ratings is because 1) Free samples, if you make it out to look like you're going to sample something, just cut it in half and sample one piece, eat the rest!! 2) My manager was really awesome, she was just run into the ground by this stupid company

Pros

"Free" samples, slightly above min wage

Cons

Long hours, no direction, two faced upper management, skimp on pay, favoritism, disorganization on all levels of the company, i could go on

"One day"

Received a call that I had got the position for Vaughan Mills location, no interview needed and was told I would receive training in order to be ready when the location would open on June 7th. When I arrived to train on day I quickly realized that wasn't going to be the case. I was quickly put into a position where I had to serve customers without really any knowledge nor guidance and had to do my best. I managed to get through the day and was told that I did a good job other employees. But I voiced my frustrations about the day and how I was lied to about receiving no training. Which then prompted them to not call me but email saying due to feedback that they received I would not be getting the job. I tried to plea my case but nothing worked. From working there for just one day you can see there is several problems ranging from lack of management, hiring employees just to not train them, lack of communication, low on staff and much more. Highly recommend you stay away from this place at all costs!

Looney tunes

To quote an old song ..."The lunatics are taking over the asylum." The ones who regularly miss their shifts keep getting hours. Those who try to fix things only last a little while...

A big joke!

This company is a BIG joke. Everybody is leaving and the ones who are staying are not capable of finding another job! The entire company is disorganized, new people are getting hired and nobody knows about them. The owner is rude and arrogant, it is her way or the highway. She and management are acting like real bullies. Some people get all the privileges, like not having to work during the weekends although they are THE manager of the store. People are in positions they shouldn't be in. Managing the pastry department when you are not even qualified to do so and in the meantime protecting some family members working there. Well apparently it is all about buttering up the owner. Plain ridiculous. Stay away from this company and when you are working for them, try to find another job ASAP like I am doing!!!

Management structure is confusing and disorganized. New hires show up and nobody knows about them or what to do. New rules daily with poor training if you get any. Cleanliness is poor. Employee moral is poor. You are replaceable

Pros

Free samples

Cons

No saftey training, schedule comes out the day before the week starts
