Reviews about Pay & benefits for Shift Leader at Dairy Queen
basically highschool
Shift Leader (Former Employee) - Campbell River, BC - 3 March 2023
The jobs are good but it's a very gossipy place. The managers are the worst for it. If you keep to yourself and do your work you'll be fine. I found the icecream/cake side of things pretty fun/artsy.
Pros
discounted food, consistent hours
Cons
gossip

It's a job
Shift Leader/Supervisor (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 14 April 2022
It's a franchise job so management can differ from locations. I went through two different managements and I can say that they differ significantly. Management is fair, but no room for growth at my location. The highest you could go was shift lead/supervisor and the compensation for that was barely competitive. The job is easy and mundane when you've been there awhile. I stayed there 10 years because it was easy, predictable, and manageable. However, it is stressful. Working in any environment where there is customer interaction where the customers think they are entitled and superior sucks. You can go above and beyond in this job, but customers don't notice; they just notice when you do something wrong, so don't go above and beyond. During rushes, it is very fast-paced and can easily borderline high stress. The workplace culture can be good and bad. You do meet a lot of good people there, and develop strong relationships and friendships. However, like any familial relationship or friendships, it goes through ups or down. Sometimes there is gossip and backtalk at work about other co-workers. At the end of the day, it's a job. Personally where I was at, there was no room for growth or advancement into management. It's a good job for starters and gives you good customer service experience, but it's a job that will easily replace you. Do what you are expected, but don't do any more than what you are hired for.
Pros
Discount off food, Flexibility with schedule, Easy
Cons
Sometimes no breaks, Rude customers, Stressful, Fast-pace
