With the nature of being a ticket seller at Cypress Mountain, you have to be on your toes most of the day. Weekend morning especially. Aside from this, it isn't too difficult to fulfill you duties as a ticket seller.

Profits before people, that's the Cypress way.

If i could give a rating of no stars, I would. A few notes on my season and a half of employment before I walked out the door. THEY DO NOT PAY OVERTIME!!!!!!Even though the workload is completely ridiculous and every department is deliberately understaffed. We were also made to edit our timesheets every week which I also believe is illegal? There is an bullying culture that runs rampant throughout management there that is kept away from the public. The HR Director is literally an abusive bully. The main accountant is abusive and rude and is never penalized for it. The Food and Beverage manager is also abusive and rude. When brought to my superiors it was never dealt with and continued happening. The Marketing Director watches movies and scrolls Facebook with his feet on his desk while his employees scramble under terrible mismanagement and infinite amounts of work. The HR director will talk about you to other directors (which is completely unethical and a breach of her job) and will tell anyone who you have a complaint against about it. They had a hand in actively gaslighting someone from their job. I witnessed it. The HR director will also make inappropriate jokes about the #metoo movement. When this was brought to the Marketing Directors attention it was swept under the rug because the board of directors was coming and they didn't want to "stir the pot". Extremely unprofessional. There is no proper training outside of what's mandated by OHS. Most of the time you are left to just figure it out with no support or resources, outdated/overloaded systems and broken -

Fun place to work at

Do you snowboard or ski? Do you want to snowboard or ski while getting paid? Well, being a ski or snowboard instructor may not be bad for you, since you can get lift and ski tickets covered with this position. While the pay is not great, you do get to enjoy a few other benefits such as having buddies to grind out some runs with you, as well as discounts for lunch.

Not as good as it sounds

Should be a fun place to work as season pass seems like a great incentive to work there however is not worth it. Management is not good, little training provided and everyone expected to train each other. Nobody fully understands what's going on and management get angry whenever tasks aren't done properly even though they aren't explained or outlined, ever. Extremely busy and fast paced environment and the mountain is not equipped to deal with this huge number of people resulting in frustrated staff and unhappy customers. They do offer staff perks including the seasons pass and monthly recognition programs with rewards such as skiing / snowboarding equipment or tickets but I personally do not feel these would make the job worth it. "Monthly" staff events were only run a few times during the season. More talk than action it seemed. Bus available, have to pay "deposit" which most staff will not get back as they are discontinued without any notice and unable to make their way back up to the mountain to claim it back as bus will have stopped. If a staff member was able to catch the bus and get their deposit back, they would have to wait on the mountain for 8 hours before being able to go down again. Hour commute each way, from downtown. Not even guaranteed a seat on the bus. Staff rarely given priority on the bus having to stand for the entire journey. Many staff disregarded at the end of season without a thank you or goodbye, simply getting shifts cut until the end with no chance to say goodbye or pick up things let alone a warning to know when would be their last shift. Fun times

A typical day is setting up the learning area, group meeting before heading off into your lessons. You learn a lot. I learned different techniques to deal with children, ways to shape a ski lesson and find new ways to make a lesson exciting. Quite a few benefits such as a free lift pass, free training of any kind, discounts in the cafe and cypress store, discounts at some ski stores dt and snowtires. Easy transit and great staff.

Pros

Free lift ticket

Cons

Terrible salary

Cool Place to Work

If you're looking for the mountain culture and don't care about salary, then Cypress is a good option. Get ready to work hard and play hard & meet a ton of great people, but don't expect much in return.

Nordic Host

Work at downhill, being a nordic host is boring; because it is very quiet. But working at the mountain as over all fun, met a lot of great people. Had to wear an extra rain jacket because the ones they provided us didn't do anything.

Pros

Free lift and ski pass

Cons

They give you jackets that everyone wears, without washing them, and you stand in the rain all day; and they aren't water proof

Fun environment and bad salary, but outstanding benefits

If you only care about the payment, you won't become happy here. But if you work here for the experience, it can be amazing regarding excellent benefits, especially free skiing of course. In the Nordic Rental Shop the atmosphere is quiet cozy and fun, as long as it is not peak time. So it is really cool for Work & Travellers, who rather want to have a fun workplace than much money.

Pros

fun workplace, free skiing and rentals, dicount on food & retail

Cons

minimum wage, long way to get there

Good workplace with friendly co-workers and managers

A day at work includes dealing with customers, manager always helpful with questions. Learned practiced teamwork, can-do attitude, and thanking every guest. Management is organized and efficient. Workplace culture is diverse. Hardest part of job involves dealing with mean customers. Most enjoyable fresh mountain air and view of city.

fun workplace

A typical day at work included helping clients in rentals, lessons and throughout the day if they looked lost. I learnt that everyone learns to ski differently. Hardest part of the job was lunch, very busy cafe. Workplace culture is very diverse which is incredible. Management for a couple of mountains is fantastic

Great local mountain

Seasonal mountain recreation setting, well worth it if you want a laid back culture with free skiing on off-days. Late hours can be challenging with long commutes back down to the city.

Awesome place, excellent people.

This is a great place to get tons of experience with emergency first aid. There are a lot of patrons from Vancouver and a lot of accidents. Out of all the mountains I patrolled at this gave me the most first aid experience.

Pros

Great scenery.

Cons

Low pay.
