So many meetings!
Senior Advisor (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 9 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedOverall a good place. So many meetings that could easily be an email. And feedback is not always direct. workplace culture, management practices and leadership effectiveness is very much dependent on which department someone works in.

Good brand name and pay well. Toxic environment
Portfolio manager (Former Employee) - Toronto - 23 June 2023
Company looks good on your CV. They also pay well compare to other financial firms. After all it's tax payers money so they don't care about cost. Environment is toxic though with most having a cocky attitude, thinking that they are much better than other pension funds.

Meh
Analyst (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 22 April 2023
You can do better So many other places Its really impressive how low compensation people are willing to accept in order to get "experience" in the industry, its sad and exploitative.

productive and exciting place to work
business transformation (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 9 January 2023
- Good company and benefits - Job Security rates high - In my personal job experience I had to be on call overnight and that part wasn't the best. - Lower Level Management can be worked on.

Didn’t appreciate willingness to grow and do things beyond job description
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 26 September 2022
Didn’t appreciate willingness to grow and do things beyond job description. Not a friendly environment. Wasn’t any flexibility at time I worked there.

Competitive, political environment
Analyst (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 8 September 2022
I found that as the organization grew, it lost a lot of what made it a good place to work at one time. It became a very competitive environment where most people were out for themselves in order to move up the corporate ladder. This included keeping information to themselves instead of sharing it with colleagues whose jobs would be made much easier by having that information. It was also very political, a bit chaotic. Prior to covid, they were not a remote friendly company so it will be interesting to see what will happen after covid. They do pay well and offer an excellent benefits package.

you work in global teams, learn something new every day
Manager (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 22 June 2022
I have found the learning that i have gotten here to be so valuable, and people are always willing to spend the time to explain things. You get to work on global projects and get exposed to a level of complexity that makes the work interesting. It does mean there are some team calls outside work hours, but you can flex your time if necessary.
Pros
Scale of the global platform and interesting work. People are nice
Cons
can be intense so make sure you are up for that but if you love what you do, you will love doing it here

Jobs at CPP Investments
Not much growth/Good work-life balance/Minimum team culture
Senior Analyst, Finance Analytics and Risk (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 20 January 2022
If you end up in the operation department, your chance of growth is pretty limited. Job content does not require you to advance your technical skills/fundamental knowledge. Management does not favor those who progress into certificates/higher education (since job does not require those knowledge). Slim to none team culture. I won't even expect people to say hi if they run into each other outside work. Good work-life balance. You can log off at 5.
Pros
work-life balance
Cons
no growth and team culture

Not as inclusive as they say
Manager (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 4 January 2021
The work culture is old fashion and punitive. Depending on your role there is a huge concern of being de-skilled. Pay and benefits are generous and bonus is quite good. However, if you leave the company you might not be as competitive with your peers in the job market. The work culture is not as diverse and inclusive as they like and they do not crack down on inappropriate behaviour.
Pros
Generous benefits and above industry pay
Cons
Senior managers and above get away with inappropriate behaviour, company org structure is disproportionate including mostly senior people

Silo teams
Quantitative Analyst - Public Markets Investment Risk (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 23 October 2020
No interaction between teams. Bureaucratic. Takes long time to get approvals. Business stakeholders don't respect technology teams . Most teams have a database under their desk in their own systems
Pros
brand name
Cons
slow pace

IT Consultant (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 10 June 2020
The place doesn’t respect your work/personal balance .. no transparency.. disrespectful directors and management .. it is reflection of the upper management messages percolating down ..
Pros

New CTO has not clue what she is doing
Sr. Developer (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 30 March 2020
Worst CTO ever met, start multiple projects in not just different but contrary directions.
Dictate what she wants and barely hear what other senior staff said.
Bring her buddy in, kick out good people, bring her consultant firm in, kick out existing excellent vendor.

Very Stressful Environment
Senior Business Specialist (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 12 February 2020
This company has a weird culture. The manager who hired me was excellent. After another manager took over our team, the culture was completely changed - very stressful.

A high performing, collaberative organization with the highest integrity.
Director - Finance (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 26 December 2019
It was an honour and privilege to have had the opportunity to work at the CPPIB. It is first class organization that cares about employees and a place where what you do and how you perform matters to every Canadian.
