Stay away. Not a good place to work
Material Handler/Forklift Operator (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON30 January 2019
Start as a temp part time employee. Which means not much. Was working 48 hrs per week from the beginning. No rights, have to have proof for any missed time. Good luck getting time off for anything. HR is a joke, rarely anyone in there and they're all specialists. Which means they only know one part of hr. Takes weeks to months for management to get back to you. Safety is questionable. People just walk where they want and don't look for material handlers. No appreciation given to employees for working mandatory 6 day work weeks. Start on afternoons and good luck getting off them. Union shop so everything goes by seniority.
If you speak up and try to get anything improved. You become a target and management will do thier best to make life even worse. Write ups threats to suspend you. If you have no other choice. Work here till mcdonalds is hiring. Definitely not a place to make a career. Was the worst shop I've ever worked in. People you work with are nice. But that's it. Not worth the money or how little time you'll get to spend with family. Would give - 5 stars if I could. Chronically short people and when they do actually get people hired maybe last a week or less.
Pros
People you work with are nice
Cons
Mandatory Saturday almost every Saturday, management is poor

Great Staff
Line Worker (Current Employee) –  Port Hope, ON27 October 2018
Lots of fun depending on what line you are on and who you are working with. Afternoon shift is the best, very laid back but you also work hard as well! Only downfall is the staring pay but you get a raise after a year so thats pretty good.

Assembly Line Worker (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON2 August 2018
When I first started working for CPK it was called Guelph Products. It was great place to work.Over the years it got worse , not people I worked with online but management. They just don't address issues or concerns for their employees.

Tough but rewarding work with great people
Temporary Worker (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON22 February 2018
At CPK you will be trained on multiple jobs around the plant assembling consoles, doors or dashboards for Chrysler models. The IP line is fast-paced, often tiring work and training is done on the job while the lines run. Team-leads are helpful and run from job to job assisting workers or relieving them for washroom breaks. There are opportunities for overtime but often only if manufacturing is behind.

Job safety and alternation is important at CPK, but if many people call-in sick, you will likely remain on one job for more than one rotation, or the entire day which can be strenuous depending on the task. The work is monotonous but easy to learn and certainly manageable once you become used to it. I enjoyed the company of everyone who worked there and they were supportive and engaging.
Pros
Decent pay, on-job training and predictable schedule
Cons
Strenuous, sometimes heavy and fast-paced work without time for error

Quality Inspector (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON12 February 2018
I worked here through temporary agency and I had a decent time and got a long good with co-workers and supervisors. I would have returned to CPK directly with the company but I didn't find good enough reasons to stay.
Pros
Easy work

Little to no job security
Line worker (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON6 November 2017
I’ve worked at Cpk for almost three years now. I thought it was okay when I joined but in all reality it’s a terrible place to work. You’ll be making below the poverty line amount of money until you’ve put in 7 years of being a full time employee(16.20 starting 16.20 once full time and a dollar raise every year for a year anniversary of being full time up to a maximum of 23.20$ a hour at full rate), And who knows when you’ll become full time they say 8 months until you’re eligible. as a tpt you call in sick, come to work late, or do anything they could view as bad behaviour and add another year into your waiting time for being hired. They’ll fire you for no reason and there’s a lot of corruption from mangement and the supervisors. Example, the afternoon shift superintendent is dating a line worker. The human recourses department will make no accommodations for anyone. Example, there was a full time employee on the afternoon shift who was having a baby and wanted a week off to spend with his wife and new born. HR told him he had to bring in proof of birth or they would count his PERVIOISLY APPROVED leave of absence as his emergency days (you only get ten a year). Or another example a employee on day shift had to bring in proof of her deceased father to get only three days off of work for his funeral service. And another example a employee on the afternoon shift had talked to a couple supervisors and got the okay to possible come in late once or twice a month to accommodate being a student while working full time. This employee the. Took the information to the hr department where  more... they had denied doing that for him as they couldn’t do that for him because of “man power issues”. If you want to be screwed around and have no life working here as you have to work mandatory saturdays be my guest. considering the pay advancement is little to none, there’s corruption throughout the company, and there’s been a employee who nearly died falling down some stairs and nobody was told about it in the factory, id suggest you find somewhere else to work. Oh and icing on the cake you want more than one week of vacation? You have to work here for 19 years.  less
Pros
Some of the line workers are okay but there’s plenty of others that are mentally unstable, Uttering death threats
Cons
48 hours a week mandatory very small amount of time off weak union twisted management

Good pay, good people, just a number to management
Assembly Line Operator (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON13 October 2017
This is a good job, thats what I thought when I started. I was a TPT (Temporary Part time worker) for two years without getting hired. So prepare for that to happen at any time. I've seen people hired on after a month, four months, ten months, three years. It all depends on whether management is willing to fork out the money to provide the proper amount of employees for the jobs. I liked working for the people on the floor, the people doing the dirty work every day, who see how amazingly hard everyone works all day and recognize how hard the jobs can be. You will never be appreciated by management, HR, or any of the bosses because there is such a tree of people who are all answering to higher people and dont want to lose their jobs. This place hasn't changed over the last four years, in fact, its gotten worse. I worked hard six days a week for four years, been injured and on light duty four times due to the management cutting more and more positions to save money and make their bonuses. They ignore safety concerns that cost them too much money and focus on how they APPEAR to the auditors that come every year.
Pros
decent money, benefits, lots of overtime available, if you work your tail off management might get pizza for your dept.
Cons
mandatory overtime, you're only a number to management, they cut jobs and pile the extra workload on the rest of us

An intensive job made easier by the best colleagues
Production Operator (Former Employee) –  Belleville, ON23 July 2017
A day at work could be just as easy-going as it could be difficult, each day really was different. But what didn't change was the constant support I had from my crew.

Between the ability to multitask, the impact of quality control, the operation of numerous systems, the devices controlling them and many more aspects of the field, what I learned most was the importance of following the "Safety First" code whenever there was an action or a decision to be made.

The company looked after itself like a family. We never ran out of ideas for new things to implicate, and throughout the advancement of our technology, the managers always made it a priority to ensure that the production crew could work in a safe and comfortable environment.
Pros
Good wage & experience
Cons
Physically intensive work

Great people and not bad pay for a local job
Quality Control Inspector (Current Employee) –  Port Hope, ON11 January 2017
CPK is very safety conscious and the pay and benefits are pretty good for a local job. Their quality standards are pretty high which is good, but they leave no room for error. It's all about getting your numbers. Management has gone way downhill in the last few years and so has the moral on the factory floor. All of this could be improved with new management
Pros
Good benifits
Cons
Expect you to do more and more every day for the same pay. No incentive

Decent summer/short term work for student, but not a career place.
Operator (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON2 December 2016
The people were wonderful, and the department supervisors were some of the nicest people I've ever come to know. They wanted you to do well and treated you very well as long as you worked decently. Upper management would sometimes make some weird decisions without consulting the department supervisors, which often caused some frustration by everyone.

If you're looking to make a career here, look elsewhere. Aside from the fact that most of this work can, and probably will, be automated in the coming years, advancement is slim. You'll be stuck as "temporary/part-time" for years on end, and have to wait for a full time to retire before being made full time. This means you're not technically union (or something along those lines) and you won't have the same options open to you as you would if you were full time. For instance, taking a day off sick as a T/PT is looked down on, and too many would likely get you fired. That said, I never had any issues dealing with HR when asking for time off, or clarification on something.

Wonderful people
Cons
Advancement is not going to happen

Manufacturing Engineer Intern (Former Employee) –  Guelph, ON29 October 2016
Time management is key at manufacturing environments such as this. The job will entail instructions and demands from multiple departments and it is your job to ensure all requests are properly adhered to and responded. This challenger was interesting to overcome as I experienced failure and success throughout my 16 months and I can gladly say the failures were big stepping stones towards the brighter successes.

You will be trained to do one station, most likely the hardest one they think your capable of and make you do it for 8 hours until you can do it alone then start another station. All well The full time people do all the easy jobs and get paid twice as much. There ad on indeed is misleading as well it makes it seem like there is a chance you will get hired full time, well there is a waiting list of up to over a year so they just use you until your hurt or sick of wasting every Saturday then fire you or wait till you quit, turn around rate would probably be a good 80 percent.TPTs work 48 hours a week but are considered part time, No booking time off. No room for advancement either Team leads gets 25 cents more then regular full-time. The people are what make the place enjoyable never have i met a good group of people, there is little to no bullying or harassment as far as i have witnessed.
Pros
Pizza days, Overtime, People
Cons
No time off aloud, Long hours, Hard repetitive tasks
