Not a fun place
Accounts Payable (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 31 October 2023
The company was recently purchased by an offshore company. A lot of money is being used for R&D. so much it’s crippling operations. They hide behind emails and unreturned calls from vendors looking for payment. It is a constant. All day. Emails and calls from vendors looking for payment.
Pros
Subsidized cafeteria
Cons
Everything else

Negative changes
Engineering (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 4 August 2023
Cougar was great for several years. More recently, management has changed due to Cougar being bought by a larger company. Several changes have happened now causing many people to leave the company.

No complaints about working at Cougar..
Service Technician (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 8 December 2020
I was hired on as a contractor, I was let go before I was able sign on as a full time employee. If you want to understand the culture at Cougar, here's some highlights: When the pandemic hit, they cut our hours but still paid us our 40 hours. Even though I wasn't technically their employee, they still made sure I was paid 40 hours a week. That's awesome, and speaks volumes. I've had conversations with both the CEO and CFO (while I was employed a as technician) and wasn't treated like a lemming. I had several complaints that I escalated with my supervisor and manager and was never reprimanded in any way.. Informal or otherwise I had several coworkers (who had more experience than me) go out of their way to help me without expecting anything in return. (Thank you!) I'm not straight, and disclosed to both my supervisor and manager, wasn't treated differently, this is a huge deal (and not expected) working a stronghold conservative province. Inclusive work environments FTW. Cougar is a good company. I worked there during a super difficult part of my life, and in retrospect, appreciate the empathy, patience, and professionalism. I wish I could return under better circumstances but I'm grateful nonetheless. They ultimately made a huge upwards improvement in my career, and I learned a lot. I don't have anything bad to say about the company or anyone that I worked with.
Pros
They have an amazing onsite cheap cafeteria..
Cons
None

Company has new ownership.
Field Sales Representative (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 23 March 2020
Was laid off along with several others in 2013. Downsizing in the oilfield service industry. In the context of today’s market this company would not be a stable career choice.

Good money when company is busy
Service technician (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 2 May 2019
When the company is busy there is lots of overtime and money, however Management expects you to work 6 days of week 9+ hours a day and take offense if you ask to take a day off. Overtime will be taken away at a moments notice with no warning. Lots of turnover of staff due to the long hours and bad communication from Managers. Cougar likes to hire from within and promote existing employees which has led to bad management in some departments (i.e. service). If you're looking for a job to pay the bills then Cougar is great. If you're looking for a career and a place to move up or have a family then I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Management also exhibit a great amount of favoritism for certain employees (i.e. family members).
There are some good points. Benefits are great and most of the time it's a good team atmosphere within the service side. Most of the employees in the shop are very friendly and helpful. They also have a cafeteria and the occasional free lunch.
Pros
Cafeteria/service team
Cons
Bad Management

Employees are thinking and are quitting. Cuts the company has made are turning employees away.
