This company looks great from the outside and their Values are fantastic, but executive level leadership don’t live by them. The CEO is clueless as to what’s going on and the FCF President is egotistical and has her eye on succeeding the CEO. Great lady on camera and on paper, but not sure how she became the President. They promote sharing of ideas to improve, but it falls on deaf ears and if an employee suggests change, it is met with much resistance. They hook you with great pay and benefits but let you flop around like a fish out of water. Directors talk about employees to other employees negatively. Their employee engagement survey, especially First Calgary’s, is a tell all. Many talented staff have left for other organizations and many are still looking. This company needs a complete overhaul from the director/VP level up!

Good place to work - one gets the feeling of family when you become part of the work force. HR is fair but focused- my advice would always be to document all situations as they happen to refer back to if requested for details. If one works at Connect First Place there is a great luncheon room and restaurant. Adequate free parking has its merits and protected workplace really makes on feel safe.
Pros
Family environment, great benefits
Cons
Stressful with stretch goals

The company's senior leadership is significantly lacking leadership skills. There is a clear disconnect between the senior management and branch staff in regards to branch needs versus the company motivations.

In my experience, leaders proved to be deceitful and untrustworthy.

The workplace culture is certainly developing, however is not solid yet and that can be felt throughout the company. Workplace attire is "dress for your day" which allows desirable freedoms however that does not offset the negatives in my opinion.

It really just doesn't seem like the company as a whole has their stuff together.

Good strong culture, educational assistance and good programs, fun group activities, and options to work on new projects. In house kitchen with café, and in house workout facility.

the Culture of the company is good, but managers ruined it. if you have a gossip skills that will make you close to the managers and you will get promoted within no time. hard and seniors staff have no chance in this company, they let you go just from a word of a mouth, no investigation or action taken. HR is useless and lazy. The more job you do outside of your roles the less chance you'ill get recognized for a higher position, favoritism has been highly practiced from managers and even DSL. The branch that I worked at the managers there are very hard working on their cell phones and listening to music on you-tube. I don't know how they hire branch managers and based on what but the BM and ABM at that locations are clueless and unsupported. They gossip more than regular staff. Seven people left that location between ( let go, resigning, switching to other location, and or joined other FI) within a year period, when you see so much turnover in a place that's mean its not the company or the staff it means the bad managements. Its too bad to work under unsecured managers, they are not going to focus on the job but they will focus on any gossip to against you!
As a former and good employee CFCU should focus on managers and ABM because they're useless.

A lot of change is going on and many people are being challenged to rethink “how they’ve always done it”. If you are a self starter and aren’t afraid to ask questions, propose solutions,, amd do so with a positive impact , this is a place you’ll thrive.
Pros
Constant evolution
Cons
You need to be proactive and persistent to keep up

I worked in a small town branch that was filled with small minded thinking. Sadly I was not a born and raised local, so the minute they could replace me with a “local” person, with less qualifications (barely out of high school) they did. The on board process makes this company look very attractive, however the minute you are in, it is a VERY different environment. I would never bank with this organization as rumours and bad mouthing run rampant in a small town branch. It was a horrible experience and one that left me feeling bad for my friends and neighbors as they had no idea what was happening the minute they left the branch.
Pros
Branch was in the town I lived in
Cons
Everything else...horrible

Connect First Credit Union was a great place to work. The people the work there are amazing, very nice, fun to work with. The hardest part of the job for me was when the contract came to an end.

The salary and benefits at CFCU are fairly decent. Their culture appears to be great when you go through the onboarding process; however not all management follow through on this. Unsupportive micromanagers make for an insufferable environment. So unfortunate, as employees with great potential are not given a fair chance.

Management does not walk their talk. It's running by
Chickens without heads. Everyone tries to be the boss. Very gossipy culture. Clear directions aren't given. Promotions are given to their favourites.

Regular hours, great group of people. Each day was similar but different, had deadlines to meet, but didn't cause havoc on work life balance. the people were all friendly, management had monthly birthday cakes etc. fun days, other activities to keep morale high and working as a group.
Pros
great people, free lunches, enjoyable atmosphere

Typical day at work is dealing with managers that don't know left from right. They keep packing work on that they don't understand and berate if they don't agree with you.
Pros
Pay cheques clear
Cons
Just about everything else

Outstanding potential to be a great company overall, really need to create an identity and hire the correct leadership to implement a sound strategy. Culture needs to be the most important thing to truly achieve success.

CFCU is a stable company. you can ask to set up your working hours if you are in administrative position. Great values that the company represents, not many leaders are driving the company according to these values though. A bit of 80s mentality within the high leaders, not very open-minded. Great to work at the branch.
Pros
great benefits
Cons
management doesn't walk their talk
