Negative environment
Support Worker (Current Employee) - Morrisburg, ON - 6 December 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedCLDC is a great place to work in theory. It sounds like a fun place to work when you look at the job description. But you often end up working alone in the homes and then when the next staff doesn’t show up you get mandated to stay past your shift which happens quite frequently, and often results in 24 hour shifts. Management doesn’t care about your responsibilities outside of work and won’t do anything to get a staff in to relieve you to go home. If you’re not buddies with your manager good luck getting ahold of them for support, time off, etc…

Direct Support Professional (Current Employee) - North Bay, ON - 22 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The people we support are fantastic human beings What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Co-workers calling in, resulting in burn out for those who need to stay or pick up the slack. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It varies from day to day and program to program. We should all put the people we support first. We are getting to be very rich in diversity which is excellent. What is a typical day like for you at the company? There is no typical day when you support people. Some days are very busy, others are very quiet.

Jericho House - Cleaner (Former Employee) - Wainfleet, ON - 15 November 2023
They do t trust anybody. There is camera in every building. You are monitored 24/7. You never receive recognition for working hard and doing a good job. They look for fault instead of seeing what you have done. The managers and Ceo look down on you. They look for fault and take away more than give back. Psint everyone one with the same brush It used to be a g0od place to work but not now. Staff are treated awful. Lots of favorites and game playing. You could have the education and qualifications but if they want their friend in They will give e their friend a job even if they are not qualified. Horrible place to work

Overall good, but it depends where you are
Support Worker II (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 2 October 2023
There are many, many locations at community living toronto so it’s really hard to give an overall general review. These are my overall patterns (I’ve worked 2 different locations and with 3 supervisors) Pros: -imo really good job advancement if you have relevant education. I’ve got a lot of responses from internal postings I’ve applied too, and if you have the education you can make your way up to supervisor -I enjoy the work I do - helping with clients goals, case management, planning outings -I believe pay is high for this field Cons: -Supervisors seem to be either micromanaging or totally distant or a weird mix of both (from my experience and from what ive heard from coworkers) -CLT makes documentation unnecessarily complicated sometimes -if you don't have relevant education I don’t think you can advance very much, even if you work there a long time -When I landed a job that was higher up with more responsibility, no pay increase. Fortunately if I get SW3 there should be though -My supervisor is micromanaging but also doesn’t respond, so she wants us to get approval for everything but then doesn’t really take action so nothing happens -Some staff really seem like they don’t know how to treat the clients -SW2 and SW3 depending on the location can come with a ton of paperwork

Productive environment and summer time activities at the yearly cottage.
Residential Counsellor -Team Leader (Current Employee) - Ajax, ON - 29 August 2023
Providing support for residents personal development and daily programming. Reading the communication book/binder at the start of shift. Medication administration and coordination of health/medication appointment. Preparing breakfast/lunch. Providing orientation and/or support to co-workers, student, volunteer and family. What I enjoy most at Community Living Ajax is having managers that support me in reaching my goals and co-workers that are able to work as a team even through challenges. The hardest part of my job as team lead is getting staff to follow through on their tasks/chores and job responsibilities. What I like about my job is the respect and support from staff and management. At this time working as a transition support worker - team lead and reflecting upon the past three years of the pandemic and furthering my career and experience I am looking forward for a new start and commitment where I can make a bigger difference in providing support for people with developmental needs, behavioural and mental health.
Pros
Going to the cottage with the residents and co-workers during the summer.
Cons
Spending all day in court with transitional clients

Fun
Direct Support Professional (24 Hour Residential Home) (Current Employee) - West Lincoln, ON - 23 August 2023
It was ok, employees were amazing. The job can be long at times as if someone calls in sick you have to cover that shift. Clients are fun and everyday is a different experience

Stressful and life consuming.
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Port Perry, ON - 23 August 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The pay was decent for the time. Somewhat flexible hours What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The staff. Management and HR are always very quick to punish hard workers however don’t punish the difficult people who have been protected by the union for years. The agism in this agency is outrageous.

Difficult to give a fair assessment due to how difficult each home and program is
Support worker I &II (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 17 August 2023
Difficult to give a fair assessment due to how difficult each home and program is over all not a bad work environment but there is little to no ability to have good work-life-balance with CLTO but also just a symptom of this field in general. You will be put in a lot of pressure and challenging situations and In some homes it will be a constant fast paced environment where communication between you and your team will be the make or break factor. I personally did learn a lot being with CLTO and found for the most part the management to do accommodating. But I’m also that is my personal experience and not everyone is that lucky. And again, due to the nature of this field you will often notice that the test expected of you and the responsibilities given to you don’t match your payment. The benefits help to cover this by a fair margin but nothing outstanding. In my personal experience having been with CLTO for a few years now everything adds up to a 3.5-4 out of 5 kind of experience. Everything is just well and manageable enough to stay for a long time and really build yourself up and learn and grow but you will notice that you aren’t being payed quite fairly or that your work life balance has completely changed you have to put a lot more time focus and energy on personal self care and growth otherwise it is extremely common and easy to fall into a constant wake-work-sleep & repeat schedule without even noticing. And fair to many homes and programs seem to be critical under staffed or unsupported. Again there are a lot of give and take with CLTO. Not a bad experience overall, depending -
Pros
Benefits, accommodations, personal and professional development
Cons
Long hours, often forced to work holidays, difficult to maintain work-life-balance-often under paid and over worked

The People are great
xyz (Former Employee) - Orangeville, ON - 14 August 2023
The pay rate is great, compared to a lot of other companies. However, it doesn't meet the livable wages. The staff is great to work with, however management is quick to fire, put on a leave, or let go of staff if they admit they are struggling. The mental health assistance received from management is very lacking, this is a high burn out job and they don't recognize burn out as an option. Coworkers are extremely supportive, however there are many narcs and it is very much an 'All girls club' I was left feeling defeated, burnt out and depressed after my time spent working there.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
lack of support from management

Don’t work here
Direct Support Professional (Former Employee) - London, ON - 13 August 2023
Management doesn’t care about you, scheduling doesn’t care about you, co-workers don’t care about you. If you have a problem with a co-worker bullying you, they do nothing and will be on the bullies side.
Pros
Can quit
Cons
You feel anxiety about leaving the people you care about

Stay away
Developmental Support Worker (Former Employee) - Port Perry, ON - 28 July 2023
This is the worst place of employment I have ever encountered. They have ZERO respect or appreciation for the dedicated hardworking staff! They are quick to punish those staff to benefit those who do not do their job. The staff are fake, quick to throw you under the bus and ruin your life.
