Micro managers
Office Administrator (Former Employee) - Cambridge, ON - 31 August 2023
Verbally and mentally abused by numerous managers and coworkers. Disorganized departments. Hired for one thing but given totally different work. Hybrid allowed only if the manager liked you. I learned who you could trust and clearly who you couldn’t.
Pros
Salary and benefits
Cons
Micro managers

Jobs at CLAC Union
Underpaid and overworked
Banking Specialist (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 3 July 2023
Little to no training....no one has the time. Expected to work through your breaks and work on your own time. No overtime, clicky -lots of backstabbing and gossip.

What a breath of fresh air!
Receptionist/Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 7 March 2023
After working for a company that did not appreciate their employees or their efforts, this has been a culture shock for me. I have been with CLAC Alberta Training for a few months, but the few months I have been here have been amazing. Everyone and I mean everyone is invested in your success and the success of the team. The environment is so positive and encouraging, it makes you want to do your best because someone is always appreciating your efforts. I wish I would have started my career here as it truly has helped me recover from my previous job experience and help me flourish in the skills I knew I had. Every morning I look forward to work and seeing my colleagues. It’s truly been the best experience I could have asked for.
Pros
Environment, colleagues, managers, pay, benefits, balance
Cons
None that I can think of

I don't have to work, I get to work.
Project Coordinator (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 7 March 2023
CLAC Alberta Training is an organization who prioritizes the individuals on the team, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills, resources, autonomy and confidence to succeed. And it is that commitment to individual success, that results in the talented, capable and loyal team that CLAC has today. The investment in team culture is present every single day we walk into the office. This is an organization where you have an opportunity to make an impact, grow your skills and work with great people along the way.

Alberta Training Receptionist (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 7 March 2023
After going to the interview I knew right away it would be a place I would love to work for! and luckily I did get the job offer. I was very excited to start and once I did my feeling about the job have not changed! Love to come to work and feel like part of a team that accomplishes a lot together! Everyone is super friendly and happy, smiling. Just happy to be at work and happy to help people and help each other accomplish tasks. Very good work culture I am very happy I was given the opportunity to be part of this team and love that there is plenty of job advancement within the company! They make you feel very much an important part of the team and keep you connected and informed!
Pros
Team building, team huddles, gym in building, care for your well being
Cons

Truly Care About Their Employees
Apprenticeship Coordinator (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 7 March 2023
I work with CLAC Alberta Training and have to say that while so many companies say they care about their employees, CLAC actually follows through. Especially when it comes to mental health. They top up your benefits so that you can actually get counselling, not just two sessions. Work life balance is great with hybrid opportunities, but still just as fun to be in the office. The collaborative nature of the job makes everyday fresh and exciting.

This union is a complete embarrassment to not only u ions but trades men and women all together you can get better packages non union lol a union is supposed to be a future for you and your family so you can retire you can own a home and enjoy life I assure you if you work for this apparently Christian union you will live a life of stress poverty and die with nothing you will never own a home with this wage If you want to work here you’re choice but you will not love your life embarrassing

Not a union
Not a union. Discourages reporting of all injuries to improve there ability to get jobs. I was injured & told I had the option to report it & take a drug test… or not to report at all and forgo the drug test. They don’t care about the workers, just maintaining a safety record. NOT A GOOD JOB

Enjoyable place to work, caring work environment.
Program Manager (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 1 October 2020
CLAC has a work environment that allows for staff to manage their own time, this allowed me to accomplish many great things as well as look after unplanned events throughout the day. I was able to learn from my colleagues and create strong relationships, both within the organization and with those I worked with on behalf of CLAC. Our workplace culture was professional and also allowed for good work/life balance. There were many challenges within my role as Program Manager however I enjoyed all aspects of the job. I specifically enjoyed travelling throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan, working with Indigenous communities to provide Pre-Employment programs and help successful participants gain meaningful employment opportunities. I also attended many events across North America representing CLAC and the SIAC, as we continue to work together towards improving scaffold training across Canada, and to ensure that the training is available to both CLAC members and non-members alike. Overall I have very good memories working at CLAC and am proud of all of our accomplishments to date.
Pros
Travel

Worst management i have ever seen. And i have been on a great deal of sites
Carpenter (Former Employee) - Various - 11 August 2020
I am a pro that has been taken by thier poor management. Be careful. Thier site owners run clac and will not be truthful about any safety violations. They are a weak union that is comfortable in thier office environments. They have forgotten thier roots.

Journeyman Carpenter (Former Employee) - Lower Mainland, BC - 4 August 2020
Horrible ..... management pets . All trades doing other trades scope of work . They would hire a monkey if they could . The monkey would be able to do anything someone shows him . Then it’s a banana ! Good monkey now go splice a wire for us . Then go do some civil and after that see if you can do concrete or steel . We will show you how to weld too . Give it a try . Good monkey !

Productive environment, safety focused
Apprentice Ironworker - Alberta (Former Employee) - Fort Hills, AB - 31 January 2020
CLAC has been a good resource for job search and training.
Representation was mediocre: While working on CLAC jobs I could always count on a CLAC steward being present as a worker on the job site (not management or supervision) these workers were generally chosen based on their credentials rather than their loyalty to the company on site, this to me speaks of honesty/good intentions on CLAC's part. However as working conditions worsened and morale went down due to changes made by the hiring companies and clients, the CLAC stewards were powerless. Although CLAC has good intentions, they don't seem to have any actual pull when representing the workers. They are only there as a formality for when workers are dismissed so that on paper proper procedure was followed.
Training was decent: CLAC has on-site training and training facilities to make sure workers are ready to enter the job site.
