Good benefits, bad union rep/semi toxic work enviroment

Indeed featured review

working outdoors is great, equipment is great. Management is nice but shows favoritism. Union rep is a snake and is managements puppet. Pay is good in winter, pay increases are terrible.

Disappointing Treatment of Part-Time Workers

I feel compelled to share my experience as a part-time worker at City of Richmond Hill. Unfortunately, my time with this company left me disheartened and dissatisfied with their treatment of part-time employees. It became evident that city's priorities were heavily skewed towards their full-time staff, especially those protected by the union. One of the most disappointing aspects of my employment was the noticeable disparity in treatment between part-time and full-time workers. It was disheartening to witness how full-time employees received preferential treatment, better benefits, and greater job security, while part-time workers were seemingly overlooked and undervalued.Communication was another area where the city fell short. Excessive emails after work hours became the norm, blurring the line between personal time and work obligations. The constant flood of messages created a sense of burnout and left little room for a healthy work-life balance. This practice disregarded the boundaries of part-time employees who were not expected to be available outside their scheduled shifts.Furthermore, the manner in which part-time workers were spoken to and treated was deeply disappointing. There were instances where our contributions and ideas were disregarded or talked down upon simply because we were not part of the full-time staff. Such a dismissive attitude was demoralizing and hindered our ability to fully engage and excel in our roles.Overall, my experience as a part-time employee at City of Richmond Hill was one of frustration and dissatisfaction. A great place to interact with the community and find stability. Coworkers are friendly and diverse. Lots of variety when it comes to entry-level positions at the City of Richmond Hill.

Collaborative

Was pleasure to work with Zoning team and learned a lot on planning process in Ontario. Team was helpful and the job was contract so had terminated after a year.

Not the culture for me, even though it's probably objectively fine

I just didn't vibe well with the manager of the facility I was working at and the wider employee base aren't necessarily the most interesting or tolerable individuals in the world, but this is highly dependent on who you end up working with, which can be highly variable

Productive and fun workplace

Enjoyed being around with children and learning new things everyday at camp whether it be from staff or the camp children. Would highly recommend becoming a summer camp counsellor.

Great at first, but municipal government is the same everywhere.

I have been doing it for 12 years. So it is good enough to stay if you like comfort and stability. But after a while it gets repetitive and I need a challenge to keep me focused.

Great Place to Work

Friendly staff where teamwork plays a major part in the operation. Upper management may be difficult at times but things have been changed and now it is even better to work for such a fantastic organization. Hard work is extremely valued.

Fun work environment but hostile and unprofessional management.

My direct managers where hostile and unprofessional however my coworkers are fun and the work environment is moderately welcoming and inviting. The job was entertaining and I enjoyed working with and teaching children swimming.

Sometimes fun sometimes too political

I learned a lot. There are many nice people working here. With the advancement of technology and the possibility of working remotely, there is more efficiency and better life and work balance.
