INFORMATION SERVICE ATTENDANT II (Current Employee) – Thornhill, ON – 20 November 2018
A typical day at work would be assisting patrons with inquiries, complaints, bookings or enrollment into programs. I learned to manage data, and to think quick on my feet to solve problems and provide excellent customer service.
Driver/Labourer (Former Employee) – Markham, ON – 7 October 2018
Daily routine was disorganized. Jumping from one task to the next. Never finishing jobs. Supervisors very disorganized and not very knowledgeable. Wages are lower than other municipalities. Overall morale of employees is bleak.
Fitness Specialist I/II (Current Employee) – Cornell, ON – 12 July 2018
Honestly I love working for the City of Markham. Your co-workers are amazing, really flexible hours, and you learn a lot. Depending on the centre it can be very busy. You also get your regular members who usually have very good personalities. Also dependant on the centre, you may be training a lot of different demographics, this of course ties in with your experience.
Human Resources Intern (Former Employee) – Markham, ON – 29 June 2018
A good place to work to experience growth and a healthy work environment. I filed and completed data entry necessary for the department to run smoothly. I collaborated with various teams and learned about the various facets of Human Resources.
Summer Camp Volunteer (Former Employee) – Markham, ON – 14 June 2018
Usually the volunteers just assisted the camp staff. Keeping and eye on the kids was important as they sometimes wandered off. Learned to be more attentive and how to read emotions on children. Extremely fun as summer camps attempt to give teach and keep children happy. Recommend to people who want to become a Councillor eventually.
Program Instructor II (Current Employee) – Markham, ON – 11 April 2018
Fortunate to have an amazing mentor and boss for my return to the workforce. Supportive staff that work well as a team. Great place to work if you like dealing with the public. Tough to move up or get a full-time job.
Contract Administrator (Current Employee) – Markham, ON – 11 March 2018
City of Markham is growing and there is a lot of opportunity to grow with the City. As an employee in the Engineering Department there is a variety of different projects to look after from park construction to rehabilitating existing intersections. Overall the team and support staff are great to work alongside with. As the City is growing there is not too much precedent for how to go about doing certain things, however this does open the door to creative problem solving and proposing new ideas.
Thornhill Councillor (Former Employee) – Markham, ON – 28 February 2018
A committed and absolutely professional upper management staff. Staff at all levels were always available to provide expert advice and suggestions. From a governance perspective, I always had confidence in their thoroughness.
Swim Instructor & Lifeguard (Current Employee) – Markham, ON – 10 February 2018
I worked as a swim instructor and as a lifeguard part-time. It is a great way as a student to get started and earn some money. However, with all the qualifications and the pay (in comparison with other municipalities) it is not that great.
