City has everything except decent management
Employee (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 10 April 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedPay is one of the best in the lower mainland, but the higher ups micromanage until no end. If you can stand management, then the pay is decent enough to live off of. You really need to be on everyone's good side to be given shifts.

Not respected, treated like a number
Cashier/Clerk (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 2 October 2023
If not for the beautiful and fabulousness personality of my immediate supervisor, I wouldn’t have lasted 3 months at the City of Delta. The upper management are typical government employees who don’t care about people or their customers, which are all of us in the general public who pay taxes to support these services. Auxiallry staff have very little benefits and nightmare schedules and very bad training. My second boss was a nightmare who was constantly rude and condescending to me. And her boss just didn’t care.
Pros
Pay is not terrible. Better than retail.
Cons
People are not treated respectfully.

Productive and enjoyable
Program Leader (Current Employee) - Delta, BC - 21 May 2023
Staff are great and the people are great too. No complaints. I highly recommend working with the city, especially if you looking for something part-time to start.

Happy I left
Sub-Foreman Public Works (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 21 November 2022
Some managers are complete boneheads. Worked there for 30+ years and finally quit with one hour notice because I'd had enough of the place. It felt so awesome to quit like that and that should never be the case. Needs an overhaul in a really big way.

Run, don't walk away from this employer!
Employee (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 28 March 2021
Working for the City of Delta was not a good experience. The managers are terrible. The only positive thing to say about it is that it pays above minimum wage. Even so, would not recommend it.
Pros
None
Cons
Micro managers, toxic work environment

Part-time casual work experience in teaching
Instructor (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 2 April 2020
The City of Delta provided me with teaching experience and flexible hours. Unfortunately it is very difficult to gain enough hours to live off with no job security.

Fun Place To Work
Receptionist (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 29 February 2020
I worked as a Receptionist in South Delta (Ladner/Tsawwassen). There were times where it was dead as ever and I wasn't sure if my shift was ever going to end, but other times it was so busy and the phones were ringing off the hook I didn't even get time to take a break.
Training was great, wage was ridiculous (i think its actually to much for what the job is).
Hardest part of the job was trying to get a shift covered if you needed to. A lot of the staff were unwilling to switch or cover.
Everyone is pretty supportive, but you do get the odd ball employee that is just rude and is not fun to deal with. (There are a couple....)

Stuffy work environment
Transportation Engineering Assistant (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 6 September 2018
Very friendly, collaborative people but difficult to work in the cubicle office space. The lunchroom was uninspired and made it difficult to enjoy being at work. I was stuck in dark corner cubicle.
Pros
Bocce

Rewarding job and energetic work team
Program Leader (Former Employee) - Delta, BC - 10 February 2018
It can be stressful at times due to the responsibility you have, however, it is a rewarding job and you work with great people. It offers competitive wages and employers care about the well being of their staff.
