City of Calgary Employee Review
Unmatched job security / work life balance but limited career advancement opportunities
The best part about the City - work life balance. With 7.75 hours a day, you get to take every alternate Fridays off. Work culture is very self motivated i.e. if you are motivated enough to get something done then you take the initiative to get it done without the possibility of extra pay. As with every other job there are pluses and minuses. Talk to as many people as you can and create your own opinion about working for the City.

Great work security and work life balance
limited opportunities for career advancement
Decent pay and work-life balance, but limited career advancement opportunities. Stigma of lazy environment. The farther from center the worse harassment and favoritism problems. Big words about commitment and values, but no second thought when it's time for lay offs. Satisfaction surveys are only collected in good times, and no exit polls for departing employees. Dysfunctional union that restricts flex work, caps salaries below market, and does not represent employee.
Annual salary increase, decent pension plan.
Questionable job security, no/weak bonuses, health & dental compensations not reviewed for ages, union spoiled many benefits.
