It is a good company to work with but too much sales pressure. Pay is not too attractive but chances to grow are very hard. Benefits are okay but salary is not too good.

Corporate Banking Job

CIBC is a standard issue corporate banking ladder. Opportunities for advancement if you want them. Company moves at a glacial pace when trying to implement new ideas.

Great benefits but not the pay

Great pay for new employees. For old employees, the raise doesnt even beat inflation. Great team though. All depends on your manager. I like my manager.

Customer Service Representative at CIBC - No raise for over 4 years!

Worked there for 10 years, No raise for 5 years! When I did it was about 7-9 cents per year! No joke. Never highlight your strengths only your weaknesses. It is a very bad place for your self astern. Management are over worked and miserable or bullies and very self motivated, especially the Women Managers. Very poorly trained and will lie about you to make themselves look better. Or degrade you, it is like they are trained to put you down, they are always looking for the negative. If you try to talk to HR or file a complaint they will not help you out. Go through the motions, but never resolve anything. There is no use in complaints to HR they don’t care and they don’t accept emails. It’s all about the bottom line and so CIBC will not spend money on adequate Staffing or updated Computer System, still using Cash Drawers, so outdated, huge a risk for Robbery. No security. This is because they are going Digital and getting rid of humans as fast as they can. No Overtime, you are expected to work for free if you are unable to finish your work in time due to outages. Very angry customers due to no Staff, but they are not going to hire enough Staff because that is too expensive for the Bank, T They expect you to work for free with very little breaks. And sell sell sell! Meet your targets or you will be made to feel like a useless person. The only good thing about CIBC is if you work 15 hours minimum you get Full Benefits! But now they hire people as a Casual or for minimum 7 hours to get out of paying the Benefits. They hire mostly young students, or new immigrants -

Pros

Extended Medical Benefits, Free Bank Accounts

Cons

Low Pay, under-Staffed, no paid overtime, stressful

There is no growth for new immigrants. There is tremendous partiality in the work place. Managers are absolutely uneducated infact they are damaged.

Mundane, But Flexible Workplace

The staff are very friendly, management needs some help with how they deal with employees as it is not always fair. Unfortunately people are not properly compensated for the work they do, as head office makes a lot of cutbacks to advisors and assistants. Not very competitive salary wise.

Supportive Leaders

Supportive Leaders, they teach you the foundation of each role. Ample time off allowed. Depending on your managers, you may be well supported for advancement.

productive and supporting environment to work in

A typical day at work included training and motivating employees as well as working on scheduling. I learnt how to build managerial skills and manager different personalities. I also learnt more about compliance. Management was very supportive and focused on employee growth. Workplace culture consisted of teamwork and team building. I was promoted from the customer service line into management, therefore the hardest part of the job was gaining respect from individuals who had worked in that workplace for a number of years. The most enjoyable part was earning my team members respect and making a difference for individuals through leading by example.

Pros

motivating workplace, supportive management, fun environment

Cons

shortage of staff at time

Good place to start a career

CIBC offered me invaluable experience and a wealth of training. The benefits were good, but the pay was awful. I started in my sales role with no experience and therefore started at the minimum salary. After 2 years of good sales numbers and great performance, they refused to give me a raise more than the $600/year inflation increase. Bonuses were not indicative of your personal performance, but as a district, which could lead you to be severely underpaid for your skill set and performance. Management at the branch level was good, but upper management seemed like they were constantly panicking and therefore not properly doing there job as a people manager. They did not help with advancement or provide any support when you wanted to move up.

Pros

Hours were decent, 3 weeks vacation, good experience, good training

Cons

Poor salary, lack of assistance in advancement
