Overall fun place to work
Seemingly hard to actually get a job here, seemed to take forever to interview, offer, accept, and start my position. Relatively relaxed environment once I was assigned a location and started. Management was fairly supportive when needed.

Christian Horizons I highly recommend to apply for a job
Christian horizons is a great company to work for they care about the people who work for them as much as the people they support. They have a great benefit package and wages are comparable to other companies.

Great place to work!
Although there is a lot of paperwork, it’s becoming more streamlined with much of the data-entry done through a secure, centralized database (with your credentials / login as digital signature). Obviously the main benefit is helping people with disabilities realize their goals. Beyond that, it’s hit or miss when finding a location that is t too loud / disruptive (eg with complex behavioural needs).

A warning.
Christian Horizons 10 years ago was an amazing place. Increasingly, team morale in most homes has declined. As other districts are unionizing, central east district has been slow to accomplish this. Central East (including Lindsay, Peterborough, Port Hope, Cobourg and Durham) is strangled from the top down. Management is very comfortable and making excellent wages.

Pay is low
Very structured company. It takes over 4 months to be hired. They pay is low compared to most agencies but they have a lot of benefits. Job can be stressful

Relax but steady
the working atmosphere was relaxed and management was understanding with clients and employees. Challenging at times, normal combative and argumentation with clients..team spirit was there amongst workers.

CH is a great company to work for.
Good company to work for. Workplace culture is not so easy at times. If you are able to go in and do your job and not get involved with the squabbles, tending to the indidivuals is most rewarding.

Tough place to work
The group home has older individuals who are very much hands on. It’s tough work due to behaviours, conflict, SIB, and it’s very physical on the body. Plus, not enough staff so working alone supporting 6 clients becomes normal.

Job Security and Benefits
If you are looking for a job that you can stay in for a number of years CH is a very secure employer. They offer uniform training for all their employees which makes it easy to move to different locations across Ontario. If you are a full time employee there are good benefits, okay pay and some opportunity for trainings.
If you are good at your job as a DSP you will likely not advance at all in your career. As they need and want you on the floor. Very few opportunities to move upwards in the company. Managers will use your skills and offer little reward in return.

Horrible management at all levels. The best part will be the people you support and (if you’re lucky) the bonds you form with your team members. It’s the type of job where you flip flop on “wow I can’t believe I get paid to do this” to “I don’t get paid enough for this.”
Pros
Easy Relocation, Fair Pay, Benefits, Meal Provided
Cons
No Growth Opportunities, Conservative Culture, Poor Management

Great place to work
Christian Horizons had been a second home for me. I have developed a relationship with the people I support as well as with the staffing. There is personal care that needs to be done and well as documentation to make sure everything is done properly with the individuals files, and wants, needs and goals are met!
Pros
Great people to work with and for.
Cons
Lifting and straining on back. Not alot of hours.

Challenging but rewarding
If you're relief, you're appreciated at the home you work at, but expect a lot of the night shifts, double shifts, and sometimes being asked to work at other locations with minimal training. Work is difficult and challenging.
Pros
Good people
Cons
Long hours, difficult individuals, graveyard shifts

Not what it used to be
Christian Horizons used to be a loving, caring company to work for, for employees and those being supported. Now it is a rushed 'half assed' work environment for all those involved. Staff are given so many administrative responsibilities that there is very little time to properly care for those that depend on us. A very busy, under appreciated place to work. No longer a Christian atmosphere, 'the least of these ' are now given the least and not the love they deserve.
Pros
The people supported
Cons
Zero breaks, over bearing workload
