We appreciate your feedback and want to ensure all of our employees feel valued and heard. Steve Himmelman, Director, Human Resources - National Programs at shimmelman@chartwell.com would be happy to chat with you to gain more insight and ensure others have a positive experience in the future.

Horrible management and horrible HR.

Management is manipulative and treats staff poorly. No one is willing to speak up or say anything to disagree with management because they know there WILL be repercussions. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND NEVER EVER WORK HERE. I would give them negative stars if I could. Residents are lovely, co-workers are relatively OK. Lots of petty fighting and drama between staff.

Pros

If you work there long enough and kiss a** they'll give you a raise.

Cons

Management will overwork you, no respect for work/life balance.

Thank you for sharing your positive employee experience and thank you for everything you do for your residents and your colleagues every day. You are appreciated!

Fun place to work

My manager is very pleasant and easy to talk to. She is always on top of things and is ready to fix any problem that arises. I also have a wonderful team that I work with, I never feel burden nor do I ever feel overwhelmed with work.

Pros

Good care team

Cons

Some shifts are too short

Bon emploi

C'était un bon emploi. Je suis heureux de mon expérience chez Chartwell. Le cadeau au temps des fêtes est apprécié. Cependant, un meilleur salaire serrait envisageable.

New employee, the change I needed

I was so stressed at my last job. Chartwell has restored my love for nursing. Retirement was a scary change but I’m so thankful I made the jump! I love coming to work again.

Pros

Free lunch, great co workers

We love receiving feedback and are so happy to hear such amazing things about your experience as a Chartwell employee! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We hope you have a wonderful day!

toxic

a new employee comes in happy about a new job, all smiles and excited about the opportunity to help seniors.mangement encourage established staff to go to them for any little issue instead of going to the new employee they want to complain about and continuing to mentor them after a few days of training. if the management misunderstand the issue, it gets blown out of proportion and the new employee gets reprimanded and sometimes even ganged up on by a few management heads. for new employees who don't feel comfortable yet or are too shy to correct it. they get a scolding for nothing. they can get reprimanded for a simple things that could have been corrected if told to watch for it! toxic employees thrive here, are fed what they need to make any new employee feel as unsupported as possible. They are understaffed, half of them look depressed and the seniors start feeling as sad as the people around them. under this system, new employees will never feel part of a team and will be shuffled through like cards. replacing them every few weeks. back stabbing is def thriving and encouraged. way to go chartwell management! keep up the great work! it's quite sad because it's the poor seniors who don't get what they pay for and are the ones footing the bill in the long run.

Pros

greeting employee is a ray of sunshine, can get a drink from the fridge if they need hydration during the day

Cons

work every other day so never get 2 days off in a row, if a day off is needed for an outside event unable get it, can't get a day off even with plenty of notice, lack of staff means you can't trade shifts if needed

It’s an OK place to work

managers are best friends with each other. They’ll hire friends to work for them, and then turn them into little rats for them. Basically, the midnight shifts are treated like slaves to the day and afternoon shifts. They treat the temp agency staff like they are kings and queens and there’s nothing else they can do basically, if you work midnights, you’ll have to get used to the fact that half of them will sit on the backside and just phone home to the other side of the world. It’s OK place to work if you’d like to be stressed right up to the max and feel burnt out at all times.

Pros

The residents are the best

Cons

management doesn’t care

Care more about money than employees

Very toxic work environment. Management cares more about themselves than thier employees. Expect to receive almost no training but you are expected to train your employees. Expect to deal with toxic entitled employees that threaten your job on a daily basis and you receive no assistance as they are union and abuse both you and the system. If you want to work for a company that that only cares about thier bottom line work here. They don't care about thier employees and will let you go to make themselves look good.

Pros

Residents

Cons

Long hours, scared of losing your job all the time. Toxic environment

I don't suggest working here.

Just from working there about 2 weeks, I was told they swapped person about 14 times in roughly two months from how bad it is. They don't have the proper tools for the amount of dishes that come in and the boss isn't exactly respectfull. At one point I ended up being alone to do the whole job and I didn't have time to take a break anymore, always did overtime too because I was overwhelmed and had no choice. The fact I did overtime pissed off the boss so he ended up coming to work with me to I guess ''show me how to be more efficient''.After that day I got sick of it and left right away.I know 2 other people who went to work there and they also didn't stay that long for similar reasons.

Very toxic workplace

There is no home work life balance , management will team up and bully employees into doing their jobs . There is no reward for doing your job properly . You are shunned if you have a genuine passion for caring. Employees who make mistakes and errors are regularly rewarded and given special treatment.

Pros

Some staff are really great people.

Cons

Long hours, no reward, low pay, toxic, bullying, abuse and neglect.

Pros

Avantage sociaux/salaire

Cons

Formations et transferts des connaissances inexistants

Work Hard for Low Pay

Chronically understaffed. Low pay despite promises for raises. Expect to work hard for little reward. Management has favourites & can't be trusted. Head Office acts like they care, but only care about bringing in money.

Do not work here.

Toxic workplace with little to no management knowledge. Poor communication with upper management, don't know what they're doing half the time and salary is far below for today's cost of living. Also no work life balance. The only positive are the residents.

Pros

Residents

Cons

Poor pay for the responsibilities.

Staff are family

I like my job so much that even being offered more money with another company wasn’t enough to make me leave. Residents are family and we treat them that way. It’s their home and we have the privilege of working where they live. Love the company and my job. Something to be said for being happy going to work each shift.

Pros

Free meals, flexible hours

Cons

None

Aucun respect envers les employés de soins

Manque de savoir vivre envers leurs employés. Gros manque également au niveau de la gestion du déroulement de l'unité de soins. Gros manque aussi envers les familles des résidents.

Pros

Nourriture est bonne

Cons

Mauvais gestionnaires
