Poor workplace culture, set values but continually ignore them

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Hardest part of the job is the poor work culture, there is a lot of bullying permitted, a competitiveness, job interferences, disregard for value of good employees, poor retention, lack of processes, more management hours wasted on politics than actually addressing the issues with employee dissatisfaction, even though they say their door is always open you can never find someone in time of need, and if you do have a voice no one listens, very dull and repetitive tasks, little room for advancement, most of the higher ratings are now being placed on this site by management themselves in order to combat all the negative publicity, turnover is high due to toxic environment, they preach cultural diversity but it is not being followed by many departments. Unless you want to be left feeling unappreciated and surrounded by other staff experiencing anxiety would not recommend for a good balance of home, work and life relationship.

Pros

accommodations to reduce travel time

Cons

toxic work culture

Poor management

The mine is truly impressive and boasts the best camp facilities in all of British Columbia. The natural beauty and the overall setup provide an exceptional environment. Nonetheless, it's important for the management to address the challenge of employee retention. Implementing strategies that enhance job satisfaction, foster professional growth, and improve work-life balance could go a long way in ensuring that the talented workforce remains committed to the company's success.

At this point, company is great to work at for conservative employees who feel more comfortable to work in environment that does not change a lot.

What is the best part of working at the company?Worked with this company as Cybersecurity Manager with responsibilities similar to vCISO. I was really lucky to have a good team and leadership with open minds towards innovation and digitization of non essential business functions up till Q1 2023.What is the most stressful part about working at the company? It felt like new IT management have been lost in politics and had poor understanding of what cybersecurity is about. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? As of 2023, company took a shift towards more of a conservative approach and culture.

Good compensation

Overall good place to work. It's struggling with communication, largely due to staff turn over, but certainly not a problem unique to this site, industrial sites everywhere are struggling with retention.

Wouldn't recommend

Management is very poor, none one knows what they're doing. Some positions are not paid fairly according to job experience. High turnover for a reason. A lot of people work here because they just can't find a job anywhere else. Salary was OK. Was not paid for travel. Rooms were OK at camp, sometimes they weren't cleaned. Some rooms smelled like mold. Food needs improvement.

Management is toxic

Overall the management makes very poor decisions when it comes to their employees well being and respect to performance. I have watched a lot of good workers leave milligan over the past few years due to management and hope to see that change with a relatively new mine manager but hasn't happened yet. They will let superintendents promote and give apprenticeships to family members and friends with very little to no experience instead of the people that have committed themselves and proven to be good reliable workers. I used to be proud of where I worked and tried to get friends to leave their jobs to come work with me now if they ask I recomend they explor other options before applying as there is very little chance of advancing in their career at mount milligan unless they suck up to just the right people.

Pros

Good benefits, week on week off is a great shift, good camp

Cons

Bullying and belittling is very common, very little to no hope of advancing if you want an apprenticeship, continually understaffed, chasing breakdowns instead of keeping things maintained

Would not recommend working here to my worst enemy

Worked there for many years watched, the company go from one I would’ve recommended to one I will not recommend to anyone. Managers treat employees like numbers that are replaceable. No job security if management doesn’t like you they’ll find a reason to remove you. No union in place to keep them honest or give employees support. Only thing good is hourly employees.

Pros

Nice camp

Cons

Terrible food

Nice camp

Maintenance is always rushed and never seem to have a chance to properly fix stuff. The more you do the more they expect of you. If you volunteer to join any committee you aren't compensated for it and held at a higher standard. Their is no fairness everyone is treated differently by who likes them, their race etc

Pros

Nice camp

Cons

No level playing field, poor communication

Poor treatment

Bad treatment, racist place to work i had been there for 4 years is so far one of the most bad experiences i have had in my entire career. I do not recommend this place for work. The workplace is very cliche. If you don't click with the management they will kick out it does not matter if you a good worker or not. Management is really poor and no preparation not professional.

Pros

nice camp that it

Cons

all the rest

Avoid at all cost

The morale at the mount Milligan site was poor when I started alot of unhappy people who had been there since the beginning. Now after numerous employees have been axed with out cause. The morale of the site has been devastated. Management is a attempts to lead through fear and intimidation.

Pros

Nice camp

Cons

Management at all levels

Good Team- Very poor E/I Superintendant

Very inexperienced supervisor team especially the Superintendant. Backup shift supervisor was a 1 year journeyman and happened to be the superintendents BROTHER!!!!.

Don’t do it!

Centerra is the place for you! If you want to be completely defeated, not allowed to voice your opinion, not allowed show pride in your work. If you enjoy being bullied by management from inexperienced supervisors to mine Manager. Money is the main focus. So if you’re a true tradesman that loves your work and want to be treated like a 9 year old! Please APPLY!

Worked there for 2 years and kept getting worse.

Worked there for 2 years and kept getting worse. People hate being there, it’s like prison. Firing people because they stand up for themselves. The pay is reasonable but not worth the awful stress one has to live with.

I do not recommend

I do not recommend working for this company. Poor workplace environment. Leadership culture is non existent. Very silo-ed culture. Very little to no collaboration.

Excellent Camp Accommodations

Management needs some work, the management wasn't very personable and seemed to favor some employees over others. Overall great place to work, camp facility is likely the nicest in northern BC.
