Great part-time virtual job

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The job is virtual with flexible hours. The hourly pay is great, you have the support of colleagues as well as access to trainings offered to faculty. Working with the students, supporting them while they gain skills in their student placements is fulfilling and interesting. It’s not a high stress/ high pressure job. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for meaningful part time work on the side.

good

Good enough experience. Was accommodating and relaxed working environment. Teammates were generally friendly and supportive. Pay was minimal but so were the expected requirements.

Nice environment

The payment is really bad for students but the environment is great. Also it provides you the opportunity to build a network that could be helpful in the future.

Desktop Support Analyst

Great location, great culture and coworkers and overall a great environment. General IT work was straightforward, and dedicated teams are available for specific issues such as security and server applications. Would gladly work in there again.

It's a Great Place to Work - If you Could Ever Get Full-Time

The chair was extremely welcoming and supportive, and always took the time to talk when needed despite an obviously heavy workload. Colleagues I worked with were also highly collaborative. Happy to share material and simply requesting that you share your creations and ideas in kind to make the program overall better. I was made to feel very welcome, and I appreciated it. It made a world of difference. My work facilities also seemed well equipped for my needs. Overall very positive, but have 2 critiques.1) As some have mentioned, being contract is brutal. Incredibly unstable, and an unknown schedule each term. You HAVE to be working another job. to make a living, and it can be tough. They want (as they should) industry bests to teach students - but how can you expect such people to work a 12 hour per week contract for an indefinite period of time to maybe become FT eventually, given they are probably doing very well in their respective field already? Really, I couldn't do this, and that's why I left. The sheer number of contract workers that have been doing so for many years makes it obvious the college is gaming the system. They could likely hire dozens of people FT but refuse to create FT positions, and continue to force people on PT Contract2) I was lucky to get a FT interview after a year (which I did not get FT, but that's ok) was a panel interview, plus a sample lesson which is fine. It uses a scoring system. I was given good feedback on it after, and told nobody ever scores high enough on their first attempt to be considered. I appreciated being explained to how it -

Pros

Supportive Chair and colleagues, Good Facilities, Enjoyable Work, Good balance of Working Independently, but having support as needed.

Cons

Uncertain Contract Work

You will learn more!

Great workplace to work with. There is work-life balance and most of the task they give are challenging because you need to make your own phase to finish it.

Teaching math

When I was a student there I started to work as a tutor in Math-drop-In. It was helpful to experience for me to learn and find the job in the school.

Pros

Teach me the method of teaching in Canada

Cons

Nothing

Good experience

A great place to work with great people. Salary is quite good as well, though it is hard to have a consistent schedule and hours, based on the often changing nature of being contract employee.

Cool atmosphere with the opportunity to learn new things

I really enjoyed working as a peer tutor at centennial! The managers are knowledgeable, professional, and caring. My colleagues are also nice and supportive. From time to time college hold events that we participate in and enjoy! this position helped me to boost my soft skills as well.

Pros

flexible hours, good atmosphere.

Cons

not much hours

Typical school

Typical school, with typical professors. Some are good, some are bad. Inconsistent expectations. Students are overwhelmingly international. Parking is messy.

Sad place to work

I love being an educator. But unless you are BFF with the chair there is no real purpose for working here.No recognition for all the time you spend developing your courses. No support from other coworkers. No room to advance because some instructors have been there 30+ years never wanting to leave.

Pros

The students

Cons

Working 80+ hours and only getting paid for 20

Productive, fun, challenging and supportive workplace

A typical work day would be getting to a specified work location early, sometimes touring the campus(if it's one), getting everything we need sorted out and ready. Then welcoming guests, assisting them, giving tours etc. Learned a lot about communicating with people, giving tours etc. I would say the hardest part is probably the standing/walking. The most enjoyable part is definitely interacting with a diverse group of people. It a great workplace for sure, with great management to boot!

Pros

Free lunches

Solid job with sometimes confused management

Workplace culture is great and inclusive. Salary and benefits are okay but nothing amazing, subject to the provincial government's whim. Management is sometimes a bit disorganized and confused, but not enough to be fatal.

Pros

Good work-life balance, free food some times

Cons

Disorganized management, lack of advancement opportunities
