Sr. Maintenance & Reliability Engineer (Current Employee) – Calgary, AB – 7 May 2018
I have joined Cenovus in 2014 and i have seen lots of changes ups and downs in very short time. Company is great place to work only some leaders in higher management and job security is poor reas all is great
Personal Productivity & Mobility Services Lead (Former Employee) – Calgary, AB – 10 April 2018
Unfortunately Cenovus has not fared well during the downturn. The culture has suffered significantly. Staff surveys highlighted lack of leadership as a chief concern. Decision rights were also highlighted as a concern.
Though there was much discussion on these concerns, there was little evidence of action taken. Since 2014, there have been significant layoffs which continue to this day. This has created an environment of uncertainty for staff and productivity has suffered. There are significant changes underway starting at the executive level. Hopefully this will save this once great Canadian company.

Cenovus has the potential to be a great company, however their current management strategy is preventing them from helping themselves. They are bleeding tallent due to short sighted management and a cash poor environment.
Commissioning Operator (Current Employee) – Christina Lake, AB – 21 March 2018
Use to be a great company but has lost its place due in part to poor business decision timing. Pay is around average and good vacation. Generally a good place to work depending on what you are looking for.
Contract Administrator (Former Employee) – Calgary, AB – 26 February 2018
Was a great company when they first started in 2008. Poor management in the Supply Chain department combined with nepotism and incompetence made the place turn toxic very quickly. I have never seen a company preach so much about safety, environmental and social responsibility and not follow through in any of these areas.
H&S Advisor (Former Employee) – Christina Lake, AB – 21 February 2018
Cenovus was a great company to work for when times were good..... But that's where it ends.
The dip in oil prices brought with it a highly political environment where only the ones in the good old boys club would survive the cuts.
Moral when I left the company was at an all time low. Nobody cared about their job performance, because it didn't seem to matter how good of a job you did there was never any room or money for advancement or reward.
I would not recommend anybody work for Cenovus. You are only a number that can come and go with the ebb and flow of the volatile heavy oil prices.
Decent base salary, nice camps on remote site.
Fear and intimidation tactics used as motivativational techniques by many managers.
Very relaxed environment but lately a lot of change

- days are usually a bit slower since it is a larger corporation, everything needs to be approved and follow a process - there are always a lot of meetings, hard to get anything done if you're super busy - workplace culture is great, everyone is pretty friendly, on the quiet side - spread out in many different buildings, so being in IT, a lot of walking to different areas of the city to attend meetings - lately a lot of change so not much has been getting done, org changes every few months it seems!
Operator (Former Employee) – Cold Lake, AB – 17 February 2018
recently found out my employment was terminated because members of the ops training department "didn't like me". which resulted in lost progress multiple times from the trainers forcing me to restart training packages multiple times under different standards every time. my lead didn't feel like vouching for me and I was terminated after 4 years of essentially harassment despite all the literal blood sweat and tears i gave that place. a word of advice. if you have a choice avoid this sh hole. unless you want to constantly deal with cliques as mature as high school mean girls who will literally badmouth you behind your back.
its a job
cliques, false safety culture, management funds their local friends businesses

The Oil & Gas Industry is pretty much a dead end business to be involved in at least as an Employee of Cenovus. The pay was good, but the opportunities are limited to do anything meaningful. No budget for anything, everyone is afraid for their jobs the environment is horrible, both in the field and in the Calgary offices. I wouldn't reccomend this company until the environment for Oil & Gas improves.
Continous cost cutting and layoffs for 3 years and they are horrible at it.
Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) – Calgary, AB – 23 January 2018
Great company to work for , a few years ago, now a days it's stressful and not a great environment to be in right now. Hopefully once the changes and layoff are completed it will go back to been an employer of choice
