fun and young, energetic work environment . Things have changed over the years with different management but the people are amazing. Best place to work because of the people.

It's a job
Advisor (Current Employee) –  Calgary, AB17 April 2018
It's job and pays the bills. Managements outlook is unrealistic and you can not say anything about it, in fear you will lose your job.

They think they can fix the morale but it is to late.
Pros
Salary, vacation days
Cons
Long hours, little recognition for hard work, no room for advancement or development. I would suggest avoiding this place unless you need a job

Cenovus In Transition
Personal Productivity & Mobility Services Lead (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB10 April 2018
Unfortunately Cenovus has not fared well during the downturn. The culture has suffered significantly. Staff surveys highlighted lack of leadership as a chief concern. Decision rights were also highlighted as a concern.

Though there was much discussion on these concerns, there was little evidence of action taken. Since 2014, there have been significant layoffs which continue to this day. This has created an environment of uncertainty for staff and productivity has suffered. There are significant changes underway starting at the executive level. Hopefully this will save this once great Canadian company.
Pros
Great people
Cons
Unclear leadership

GIS Analyst/Specialist (Current Employee) –  Calgary, AB5 April 2018
Cenovus has the potential to be a great company, however their current management strategy is preventing them from helping themselves. They are bleeding tallent due to short sighted management and a cash poor environment.

Commissioning Operator (Current Employee) –  Christina Lake, AB21 March 2018
Use to be a great company but has lost its place due in part to poor business decision timing. Pay is around average and good vacation. Generally a good place to work depending on what you are looking for.

Great company at beginning
Contract Administrator (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB26 February 2018
Was a great company when they first started in 2008. Poor management in the Supply Chain department combined with nepotism and incompetence made the place turn toxic very quickly. I have never seen a company preach so much about safety, environmental and social responsibility and not follow through in any of these areas.
Pros
Work life balance, compensation
Cons
Poor leadership, workplace harrasment, nepotism

Went from great to deplorable
H&S Advisor (Former Employee) –  Christina Lake, AB21 February 2018
Cenovus was a great company to work for when times were good..... But that's where it ends.

The dip in oil prices brought with it a highly political environment where only the ones in the good old boys club would survive the cuts.

Moral when I left the company was at an all time low. Nobody cared about their job performance, because it didn't seem to matter how good of a job you did there was never any room or money for advancement or reward.

I would not recommend anybody work for Cenovus. You are only a number that can come and go with the ebb and flow of the volatile heavy oil prices.
Pros
Decent base salary, nice camps on remote site.
Cons
Fear and intimidation tactics used as motivativational techniques by many managers.

Very relaxed environment but lately a lot of change
Business Analyst (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB20 February 2018
- days are usually a bit slower since it is a larger corporation, everything needs to be approved and follow a process
- there are always a lot of meetings, hard to get anything done if you're super busy
- workplace culture is great, everyone is pretty friendly, on the quiet side
- spread out in many different buildings, so being in IT, a lot of walking to different areas of the city to attend meetings
- lately a lot of change so not much has been getting done, org changes every few months it seems!
Pros
extra fridays off

Field Engineer, Major Projects (Former Employee) –  Bonnyville, AB20 February 2018
Poor leadership throughout economic downturn. Steps in the right direction are being made now but will take time to rebuild culture. Slow and repeated large scale layoffs really crushed morale

horribly political for no good reason
Operator (Former Employee) –  Cold Lake, AB17 February 2018
recently found out my employment was terminated because members of the ops training department "didn't like me". which resulted in lost progress multiple times from the trainers forcing me to restart training packages multiple times under different standards every time. my lead didn't feel like vouching for me and I was terminated after 4 years of essentially harassment despite all the literal blood sweat and tears i gave that place. a word of advice. if you have a choice avoid this sh hole. unless you want to constantly deal with cliques as mature as high school mean girls who will literally badmouth you behind your back.
Pros
its a job
Cons
cliques, false safety culture, management funds their local friends businesses

With the changing culture over the last couple of years the morale has been low. Hard work and experience were not always acknowledged by supervisors.

Dead End Career
Business Analyst (Former Employee) –  Calgary14 February 2018
The Oil & Gas Industry is pretty much a dead end business to be involved in at least as an Employee of Cenovus. The pay was good, but the opportunities are limited to do anything meaningful. No budget for anything, everyone is afraid for their jobs the environment is horrible, both in the field and in the Calgary offices. I wouldn't reccomend this company until the environment for Oil & Gas improves.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Continous cost cutting and layoffs for 3 years and they are horrible at it.

The corporate ideology is great. Just needs more than lips service to back it up. Some people believe in a work/family balance and others put people after profits.
