Cenovus Indigenous Housing Initiative
Our Indigenous Housing program, announced in January 2020, is the largest community investment initiative in Cenovus’s history, aimed at addressing one of the most pressing issues facing Indigenous communities in Canada – the lack of adequate housing that is forcing many families to live in overcrowded and unsafe conditions.
A billion reasons to be proud
On July 10, 2019, we became the first company in the oil sands to produce a billion barrels of oil using steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology.
How we get oil out of the ground in the oil sands
We'd like to introduce you to a different kind of oil sands -- that uses drilling to access the oil. Watch this animation to learn how we drill and then use steam to separate oil from sand that's deep underground. It's called steam-assisted gravity drainage, or SAGD.
