What advice would you give the CEO of Carters, Inc about how to improve the company?

  • Have quarterly evaluations with the sales associates and supervisors about the management. Have secret shoppers in the store so they may tell you how a store needs to improve, only way to get a true sense because management knows when there will be a store visit from Regional and District managers and therefore hurry to make the store presentable. This is not a true picture of how they manage the store on a regular basis.

  • Give a care about the people you have to run your stores. Listen to them when they are telling you what is happening within.

  • Make cleaning stores a priority, send companies in to clean the floors and vents and the high shelves that can't be dusted by staff. The amount of time in a shift I've spent with a pen chipping ice salt off the corroded floor that's lifting is gross. The stores are too big for the closing staff to mop and sweep and it's too much work for minimum wage on top of the retail responsibilities and closing responsibilities.
