You’re a drone
Behavioural Mentor (Former Employee) - Peace River, AB - 19 February 2023
You don’t count as an individual you are a worker drone they will work you to a point of burnout and then not care if you need a day off. Management will go on trips (not work related) paid for by the company while they reduce the benefits staff receive.

Team Member (Current Employee) - Grimshaw, AB - 18 December 2020
I have been working with Care Human Services for just under 2 years and in this time, I have been provided with lots of support in my role(s) and have always felt that I could approach my Team Lead and/or Manager if needed for anything that I was struggling with, whether it be work related or if something had come up in my home/work life balance/health issues that could have arose. I have always felt supported! When you join the Care Team, there is an understanding that they want you to grow and learn and branch out to new roles that challenge you, to help you move forward in your "career" choice whatever that may be, HCA, CSW, Maintenance, Kitchen Support, Recreational Coordinator's, Residential Coordinator's, Behavioural Supports, LPN's, Care Coordinator's, Team Leads, Program Manager's etc... The Individuals are always first priority and that is shown right throughout the agency. Every decision that is made, is made with the Individuals best interest at heart to help them succeed in their independence and also to protect them, especially during difficult times, that we are all going through together. We have had a lot of fun times with activities and games, decorating, celebrating holidays and we are all doing the best we can as a team for the Individuals in Care, which makes my heart smile, to see the smiles on their faces! I have personally seen colleagues everyday go the extra mile for every single Individual in Care and I could not be happier than I am working with this company. Are there days that are hard? Yes, but that is the same with any job that you are in and -
Pros
team support, management support, benefits, flexible hours (shift availability for 24 hour support), location, assisting other with their daily needs

Nepotism and favouritism abounds
Health Care Aide (Former Employee) - Grimshaw, AB - 29 November 2020
Enjoyed the actual work, but was often short staffed which makes it difficult. Management is very cliquey, unpredictable and unprofessional favouring relatives and friends for promotions. Do not recommend unless you are looking for lots of hours and can put up with management.
Pros
Working with the residents
Cons
Short staffed often

Hard work, high reward
Behaviour specialist (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 3 November 2020
Care Human Services specializes in supporting folks with complex needs, which is intense and hard work. This company is constantly changing and evolving with the challenges that the not-for-profit sector is faced with. Sometimes, changes could be communicated better but I like that they're willing to move in new directions if they feel it will result in a better life/better support of the individuals in service. They value my feedback and I appreciate that. The hardest part of this job is helping others find true value in what they do and the people they support. Sadly, not everyone that walks through the door is in it, heart and soul. Some just want a paycheque and that breaks my heart. The best part of the job, seeing the small wins. The little successes overtime. Our frontline team is rock-star quality and they really are a fun, diverse group of folks.
Pros
benefits, wages, respectful and felxible workplace
Cons
turn over, frequent changes makes people tense

Nice place to work
Community Support Worker (Current Employee) - Peace River, AB - 2 November 2020
Care has been very good to me ever since I started with them. They allowed me to have another full time job and had given me flexible hours. Also, I work with great people who are dedicated to bettering the lives of the individuals we work with. Staff are easy to work with and can be depended upon. RC's and Team Leads are accessible anytime of the day. A typical day at work would be engaging with happy and contented individuals. We don't often see senior management but they're just one phone call away. If you're looking for a place to work, with good benefits and highly motivated people, try CARE!

Poorly Named Company
Community Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 22 September 2020
For human service oriented people, helping individuals with with special needs is the goal no matter what company one works under. The very best part of the job was working with the individual in my care. In my case, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful team in support of this individual. Unfortunately that team did NOT include a supportive administration/management. Managers boast about having been front line workers at some point in their careers but it would appear that they have quite forgotten what that job is like. The majority of the communication is negative but mostly it is simply non existent. It appears that special projects and bottom lines are the determining factors in service provision. The policy manual is invoked when enforcement of policy against employees is deemed necessary but is tossed to the side when not convenient for the management team itself. There is an atmosphere of fear among the workers. People are afraid of their jobs if they voice an opinion or suggestion and heaven help you if you actually advocate for the individual you work with. Management have a bad reputation for shooting first and then...well...actually they just shoot. I actually feel very badly for them because they have lost a lot of their best people at all levels because of their horrible management techniques. Others have also mentioned that there is no advancement in pay scale no matter how many years on the job or personal risk level involved. Benefits are on the low end of industry standard. If you are a parent or guardian of an individual in the care -
Pros
Good local team and loved working with the individual
Cons
Poor management!!!!!

Horrible company to work for
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Peace River, AB - 13 February 2020
Apply at your own risk. Horribly managed company they do not appreciate their staff and you cannot voice your opinions or you will BE fired on the spot. Over work their employees, horrible pay and horribly organized. They are money hungry. I wouldn’t put a loved one in their care either! They don’t pay overtime or raises and hardly accommodate shift changes as well. They should not be able to be running a company or caring for individuals

Jobs at Care Human Services
Does not recommend
Human Resources Coordinator (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 26 January 2020
You mean nothing to them. If they don’t like you they will find any little reason to get rid of you. They don’t pay employees on time and they make “cut backs” and give their management raises.

Adaptable Company in a Difficult Sector
Coordinator (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 26 November 2019
Care Human Services is continuously improving and is quick to adapt in a difficult sector that is greatly influenced by government decisions. It can be difficult work, but there are many employees who understand the true positive effect they have on the people being supported, and that it is about more then just a pay check. That being said the pay and benefits are one of the highest in the sector. There is a lot of support for employees when needed, and the Management Team is not afraid to make changes and adopt new technology to stay relevant and efficient.

Great exposure to the field of complex needs
CSW (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 26 November 2019
Challenging but very rewarding work. If you don’t like to work hard then don’t work for a charity. This one provides above -average wages for this sector, amazing perks, lots of paid and free training, and is big enough that there are opportunities to move around if you’re not being challenged enough at your worksite.

Wouldn’t recommend to anyone I know.
Community Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 21 September 2019
Working previously as a support worker, scheduling/management doesn’t care about work/life balance. Most of the time they won’t allow you to switch shifts with another employee to accommodate life even though you have to find your own replacements (then they deny it). There are no raises. If you want actual orientation to know you’re doing things properly - this is not the job for you. High turnover as there is no
direction.
