Poorly Named Company
Community Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 22 September 2020
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedFor human service oriented people, helping individuals with with special needs is the goal no matter what company one works under. The very best part of the job was working with the individual in my care. In my case, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful team in support of this individual. Unfortunately that team did NOT include a supportive administration/management. Managers boast about having been front line workers at some point in their careers but it would appear that they have quite forgotten what that job is like. The majority of the communication is negative but mostly it is simply non existent. It appears that special projects and bottom lines are the determining factors in service provision. The policy manual is invoked when enforcement of policy against employees is deemed necessary but is tossed to the side when not convenient for the management team itself. There is an atmosphere of fear among the workers. People are afraid of their jobs if they voice an opinion or suggestion and heaven help you if you actually advocate for the individual you work with. Management have a bad reputation for shooting first and then...well...actually they just shoot. I actually feel very badly for them because they have lost a lot of their best people at all levels because of their horrible management techniques. Others have also mentioned that there is no advancement in pay scale no matter how many years on the job or personal risk level involved. Benefits are on the low end of industry standard. If you are a parent or guardian of an individual in the care -
Pros
Good local team and loved working with the individual
Cons
Poor management!!!!!

Jobs at Care Human Services
in Grande Prairie, ABJust terrible management
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 13 September 2023
A few colleagues made working there bearable and fun. However, the upper management I feel is discriminatory, just terrible management in total. And this behaviors or effect is passed down to lower management and employees unaware, acting out of somewhat 'Fear'. Like a fascist management, where staff is not free to express but rather pretend. Relatively, Team leads from experience act like demi-gods and would lie or pretend if they have to. As for the individuals, many of them are also discriminatory, rather than certain bad behaviors to be acknowledged, you are rather fired. I enjoyed and considered building a career in social work, but this organization had one the worst and most toxic environment I have ever experienced and made me reconsider. However, I thank them for helping me build character while it lasted and so happy found a better paying and better managed company.
Pros
Empathy
Cons
Mental fatigue

Awful place
Group Home Support Worker (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 19 August 2023
They don't care about nothing. Higher ups are greedy and don't even know what's going on. They lie and don't give you the wage you were expected. Just stay away

Company is a joke.
Personal Support Worker (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 27 June 2022
Care doesn’t care for staff or clients. Team lead , program managers just follow blindly the above to keep their jobs. No job security. Staff are over worked and when they want time off it is denied and you have to find your own people to cover vacation.
Pros
Wage is a bit higher
Cons
Management doesn’t care, about staff or clients, Care is not a good name for a company that doesn’t Care.

Care Human Services
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 26 September 2021
The only thing that was good there is the other staff members helping eachother out with the clients. The management sucked at not properly training other staff for other clients, hardly helped the other staff unless they are fully short staff then the people in the office will actually get out of the office and help the other staff. They don't know how to properly communicate with staff or themselves, they don't really know what their job title is and if they do they don't know what they are doing with the clients. It is un safe to work with some clients there because they hit, yell and etc and we are not allowed to defend ourselves. The company doesn't care about staff that has family because you always have to bend your hours for the company and your time.

Great place to work
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 22 July 2021
I have worked for CARE for more than 7 years. I really enjoyed working there. Great support from management and team. Taking care of vulnerable people is not a easy job but CARE is doing an amazing job there. Community should be thankful to CARE for taking care of our vulnerable people.

Disorganized and Unprofessional
Human Resources Coordinator (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 13 January 2021
CARE is the most disorganized company I have worked for. From paying salaries late to not providing the appropriate training for employees. This workplace is filled with drama and unprofessionalism. Initial promises sound appeasing but I can guarantee even the best employee won’t find a long term career with CARE, as their termination rates are the highest I’ve seen.
Pros
Many Amazing Perks
Cons
Unprofessional, high termination rates, zero to no response if you require professional documents

Team Environment with a focus on Compassion and Mental Health
Marketing Coordinator (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 1 January 2021
My experience at CARE was nothing short of positive. I learned so much about the support services industry during my time there and have a deep respect for the community service workers employed there right up to the management and board of directors that oversee CARE’s operation. CARE is so unique in its offering and supports individuals who often have few, if any, options for care elsewhere. This places an extremely high demand on its workers and management has to balance many conflicting concerns ranging from government regulations, funding concerns, supported individual needs, the wishes of the supported individual’s family, worker safety, even environmental limitations. At the end of the day, not everyone will be happy, but the decisions that are made are done so with the intent of providing the supported individual with the best supports possibly and highest quality standard of living. As an employee, I had access to a wide array of training - including mental health first aid. What was important to my role there was understanding that I was part of a team and that my perspective was not the only one. Decisions are made at many levels within the organization and sometimes those decisions are made based on information about a supported individual that is confidential and cannot be shared at every level. CARE has changed lives for the better within the communities it operates in and I worked there with a deep sense of pride and purpose seeing all the good that was accomplished. It can be fast paced, stressful, and frustrating, especially for support staff, but I believe -
Pros
Team Environment, Health and Lifestyle Spending Account, Training
Cons
Stressful

Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 15 November 2020
Don’t know what they’re doing. Huge transition all the time, in the year I worked there went through 3 HR people. They dispose of people with out any logical reason, and when the individuals ask why they never share. You don’t know what’s happening ever.
Pros
The residents you work with are great
Cons
Everything about the management is horrid. Treat there staff very unprofessional

I great place to work
Residential Coordinator (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 3 November 2020
I have worked for Care Humans Services for about 4 years now . I enjoy working at Care and look forward to coming to work everyday. I found that the company actually care about their clients and staff and they have treated me with so much respect and actual caring. Care has a team working environment and everyone is there to help out and answer your questions. At the end of your day it is very rewarding to know you have made someones day at little better. The management have treated me with so much respect and have helped me advance my skills so much. Care have provided me with so much training to help me preform my job more confidently which I feel is a benefit to our clients, company and myself.

Hard work, high reward
Behaviour specialist (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 3 November 2020
Care Human Services specializes in supporting folks with complex needs, which is intense and hard work. This company is constantly changing and evolving with the challenges that the not-for-profit sector is faced with. Sometimes, changes could be communicated better but I like that they're willing to move in new directions if they feel it will result in a better life/better support of the individuals in service. They value my feedback and I appreciate that. The hardest part of this job is helping others find true value in what they do and the people they support. Sadly, not everyone that walks through the door is in it, heart and soul. Some just want a paycheque and that breaks my heart. The best part of the job, seeing the small wins. The little successes overtime. Our frontline team is rock-star quality and they really are a fun, diverse group of folks.
Pros
benefits, wages, respectful and felxible workplace
Cons
turn over, frequent changes makes people tense

Horrible company
Community Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 27 August 2020
Don’t waste your time working for this company. They treat there staff horribly and are tons of drama. If you do work here, keep your head down and don’t say anything however people who have done that still have been fired. This company likes to make false allegations about their employees and put them on “paid suspension” and than fire them and they won’t tell you what these so called “allegations” are because they are lying and there is none. Avoid working for this company if at all possible

Not a good company
formal employee (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 9 May 2020
I do not recommend working with this company, too selfish. All they think about is the profit. Your job is not secured with them, you should always have a back up job just incase you get fired. The name CARE the company is called doesn't reflect in their action towards clients & employees. If you work with them you are on your own..Good luck

10/10 do not recommenced
Community Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 19 April 2020
The hiring process is long and rather unnecessary. Not many people have a month to spare when in need of a job and you are required to fill out personality reports, skills assessment, and a virtual interview.Upon hire you will go through in class training that will completely underwhelm you for what a day in the life actually looks like. If you manage to stick it out through that you will come to find that upper management is very disorganized. During my employment I have been paid late twice, once being TEN DAYS after expected pay date. The communication is terrible amongst management and the front line workers. Understanding this is a nonprofit you should expect that quarterly budget reviews dictate your future. Premiums and bonuses are dependent on that, how ever I have worked for other companies that are much more organized. Shifts can change with little notice and you can expect to wait days reply from human resources/upper management if you are in need of anything. Save yourself the trouble and wait for this company to pull their life together.

Human Resources Coordinator (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 26 January 2020
You mean nothing to them. If they don’t like you they will find any little reason to get rid of you. They don’t pay employees on time and they make “cut backs” and give their management raises.

Adaptable Company in a Difficult Sector
Coordinator (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 26 November 2019
Care Human Services is continuously improving and is quick to adapt in a difficult sector that is greatly influenced by government decisions. It can be difficult work, but there are many employees who understand the true positive effect they have on the people being supported, and that it is about more then just a pay check. That being said the pay and benefits are one of the highest in the sector. There is a lot of support for employees when needed, and the Management Team is not afraid to make changes and adopt new technology to stay relevant and efficient.
