Do Not Work Here
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grimshaw - 22 September 2023
Management does not care about its staff. They’re understaffed and the clients pay for it. Do not put your family members into any of their facilities. They will be neglected.

Just terrible management
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 13 September 2023
A few colleagues made working there bearable and fun. However, the upper management I feel is discriminatory, just terrible management in total. And this behaviors or effect is passed down to lower management and employees unaware, acting out of somewhat 'Fear'. Like a fascist management, where staff is not free to express but rather pretend. Relatively, Team leads from experience act like demi-gods and would lie or pretend if they have to. As for the individuals, many of them are also discriminatory, rather than certain bad behaviors to be acknowledged, you are rather fired. I enjoyed and considered building a career in social work, but this organization had one the worst and most toxic environment I have ever experienced and made me reconsider. However, I thank them for helping me build character while it lasted and so happy found a better paying and better managed company.
Pros
Empathy
Cons
Mental fatigue

Awful place
Group Home Support Worker (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 19 August 2023
They don't care about nothing. Higher ups are greedy and don't even know what's going on. They lie and don't give you the wage you were expected. Just stay away

Replace incompetent upper management lacking frontline experience.
Support Worker (Current Employee) - Grimshaw, AB - 21 April 2023
The main issue within this company is that upper management seems to be unaware, no they are aware, so they don't care about of the challenges and concerns faced by their front-line workers. This lack of understanding has resulted in bottom low employee morale and job satisfaction, which has persisted for several years. Despite the ongoing problem, management has not taken any action to address the situation. The shortage of staff empathy further exacerbates the situation, creating a tense work environment where petty conflicts and favoritism between employees are common occurrences.
Pros
Wonderful Clients, Hard working coworkers
Cons
Upper Management Is The Problem

Dumpster Fire
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Wembley, AB - 16 March 2023
Best place I ever left. Worst place to work in Alberta. Worst hours. Worst bosses. Out of control clients that dont get the support they need but the bosses drive fancy cars and take vacations all paid by the company. I guarantee you will be treated like garbage in this dumpster fire of a company

You’re a drone
Behavioural Mentor (Former Employee) - Peace River, AB - 19 February 2023
You don’t count as an individual you are a worker drone they will work you to a point of burnout and then not care if you need a day off. Management will go on trips (not work related) paid for by the company while they reduce the benefits staff receive.

None

Good work culture
Community Support Worker (Current Employee) - Saskatoon Lake - 23 January 2023
Care Human Services is a company in which you can find an amazing network of employees who value team-work. You will find some challenges here at work, but you will also be provided with good support to help guide you through some challenges with clients. Management has shown that they are always willing to listen to feedback and they will address your concerns when you bring them forward. It is a fair company. Your day-to-day will look very different, based on your client. However, you will definitely grow and learn lots as a staff here. Hardest part of the job would be when I witness some staff burn-outs and their level of stress. In my opinion, if you click well with the individual you work with, your job can be a lot of fun - but there is no doubt that there are some risks while working here.
Pros
Lots of work hours available, strong teamwork
Cons
Easy to burn-out, a fair amount of turn-overs

Jobs at Care Human Services
Company is a joke.
Personal Support Worker (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 27 June 2022
Care doesn’t care for staff or clients. Team lead , program managers just follow blindly the above to keep their jobs. No job security. Staff are over worked and when they want time off it is denied and you have to find your own people to cover vacation.
Pros
Wage is a bit higher
Cons
Management doesn’t care, about staff or clients, Care is not a good name for a company that doesn’t Care.

Small non profit big heart

Care Human Services
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 26 September 2021
The only thing that was good there is the other staff members helping eachother out with the clients. The management sucked at not properly training other staff for other clients, hardly helped the other staff unless they are fully short staff then the people in the office will actually get out of the office and help the other staff. They don't know how to properly communicate with staff or themselves, they don't really know what their job title is and if they do they don't know what they are doing with the clients. It is un safe to work with some clients there because they hit, yell and etc and we are not allowed to defend ourselves. The company doesn't care about staff that has family because you always have to bend your hours for the company and your time.

Wonderul career with wonderful people
Uncertified health care aide (Current Employee) - Grimshaw, AB - 14 August 2021
I have worked here for the past 9 months and have found that I enjoy it completely! The staff are really friendly, management has always understood and supported me if I needed to talk or get time off for personal/family reasons. The residents and their families are wonderful to connect with. It isn't an easy job but it is a very fulfilling one if you have the work ethic and caring heart to persue it!

Supervisor (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 22 July 2021
I have worked for CARE for more than 7 years. I really enjoyed working there. Great support from management and team. Taking care of vulnerable people is not a easy job but CARE is doing an amazing job there. Community should be thankful to CARE for taking care of our vulnerable people.

Disorganized and Unprofessional
Human Resources Coordinator (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 13 January 2021
CARE is the most disorganized company I have worked for. From paying salaries late to not providing the appropriate training for employees. This workplace is filled with drama and unprofessionalism. Initial promises sound appeasing but I can guarantee even the best employee won’t find a long term career with CARE, as their termination rates are the highest I’ve seen.
Pros
Many Amazing Perks
Cons
Unprofessional, high termination rates, zero to no response if you require professional documents

Horrible company
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Grimshaw, AB - 4 January 2021
“CARE” does not actually care about their patients nor do they care about proper protocols. The worker to patient ratio is ridiculous! They have support workers there trying to do the job of a registered LPN. They have support workers administering medicine with little to no training. The management is everywhere and they can never seem to stay organized. Managements idea of training on Lifts, administering medication, behavioural, etc is all a big joke. They pretty much give you a PowerPoint slide and expect you to know everything from that, no actual training on site with an actual LPN, just other support workers who were provided the same PowerPoint and training as you were. The actual work itself and job with the patients is awesome, it would have been even better if they weren’t understaffed all the time and fire people for no reason. Unfortunately management is just terrible and these poor Patients are the ones who are suffering because of it! CARE also does not care about their employees, the support workers who don’t work in DSL don’t even get a lunch room! Care forces the Employees to either not take a lunch because they are understaffed and it’s not possible to leave all of the patients by themselves or you get to go take 10 minutes in an old patient’s room that’s been emptied out. They also feel that apparently in the job title of a support worker that you are obligated to go out and shovel sidewalks and leave all of your patients alone in the cottage and you are also responsible for administering medicine to a cat....Just pathetic.
Pros
Other Employees/great patients
Cons
Long hours/horrible management

Team Environment with a focus on Compassion and Mental Health
Marketing Coordinator (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 1 January 2021
My experience at CARE was nothing short of positive. I learned so much about the support services industry during my time there and have a deep respect for the community service workers employed there right up to the management and board of directors that oversee CARE’s operation. CARE is so unique in its offering and supports individuals who often have few, if any, options for care elsewhere. This places an extremely high demand on its workers and management has to balance many conflicting concerns ranging from government regulations, funding concerns, supported individual needs, the wishes of the supported individual’s family, worker safety, even environmental limitations. At the end of the day, not everyone will be happy, but the decisions that are made are done so with the intent of providing the supported individual with the best supports possibly and highest quality standard of living. As an employee, I had access to a wide array of training - including mental health first aid. What was important to my role there was understanding that I was part of a team and that my perspective was not the only one. Decisions are made at many levels within the organization and sometimes those decisions are made based on information about a supported individual that is confidential and cannot be shared at every level. CARE has changed lives for the better within the communities it operates in and I worked there with a deep sense of pride and purpose seeing all the good that was accomplished. It can be fast paced, stressful, and frustrating, especially for support staff, but I believe -
Pros
Team Environment, Health and Lifestyle Spending Account, Training
Cons
Stressful

The Name of this Company "Care" is reflected in many ways - day-to-day
Team Member (Current Employee) - Grimshaw, AB - 18 December 2020
I have been working with Care Human Services for just under 2 years and in this time, I have been provided with lots of support in my role(s) and have always felt that I could approach my Team Lead and/or Manager if needed for anything that I was struggling with, whether it be work related or if something had come up in my home/work life balance/health issues that could have arose. I have always felt supported! When you join the Care Team, there is an understanding that they want you to grow and learn and branch out to new roles that challenge you, to help you move forward in your "career" choice whatever that may be, HCA, CSW, Maintenance, Kitchen Support, Recreational Coordinator's, Residential Coordinator's, Behavioural Supports, LPN's, Care Coordinator's, Team Leads, Program Manager's etc... The Individuals are always first priority and that is shown right throughout the agency. Every decision that is made, is made with the Individuals best interest at heart to help them succeed in their independence and also to protect them, especially during difficult times, that we are all going through together. We have had a lot of fun times with activities and games, decorating, celebrating holidays and we are all doing the best we can as a team for the Individuals in Care, which makes my heart smile, to see the smiles on their faces! I have personally seen colleagues everyday go the extra mile for every single Individual in Care and I could not be happier than I am working with this company. Are there days that are hard? Yes, but that is the same with any job that you are in and -
Pros
team support, management support, benefits, flexible hours (shift availability for 24 hour support), location, assisting other with their daily needs
