Work-life Balance

Reviews

Locomotive Engineer in Capreol, ON
on 5 March 2021
Excellent pay, micromanaged
A great career with great pay and benefits. This job is very hard on family life. You are on call 24/7 for years until you have enough seniority for a regular job. Do not expect to be home for birthdays and holidays and other special events. You do get vacation but it has to be bid on and is granted by seniority. They have also implemented leave days. 12 days per year based on first come first serve with 2 shots daily for all employees. Overall, this job is great and will give you a very comfortable lifestyle.

Most hostile work environment ever
The title said it all, Only company I know that spends 10s of thousands of dollars to train you just to actively try and fire you, the working conditions are abysmal, management and employees do not trust each other it’s amazing anything moves at all, there is no effort whatsoever to work with each other, management is forever yelling at all their employees and threatening them, work life balance is a total joke, they literally do not care if someone in your family is sick or dying as long as you make it in when they call youThere are two good things about the job, great pay and totally new experiences going to new places and seeming some amazing scenery
Clerk in Ontario

Your compensated very well but you have to sacrifice a lot.
The one thing you can’t really complain about is your compensation. Your pay and benefits are in the area that not many companies are going to pay you or provide to you. Your biggest problem will end up being the lack of a life. Oh they’ll tell you how rough things will be in the interview, 24/7 operations, ungodly hours, etc, but the reality of it doesn’t hit you until you actually start working there.

Horrible place to work for great pay
An incredibly toxic work environment from management to your coworkers. Can't trust your coworkers and you can't trust management. Terribly ran union with the union reps being bought out by the company and only in it for money not the union principals that they preach. No life and management will harass on personal time.

Interview questions

No questions for my interview. room of 20 people they talk about the company. then they have you take a switching test on the spot with no training or explanation. about half the class failed. if you pass then come all the drug test, physicals criminal record check etc. then off to Winnipeg if you pass all that for 7 weeks of tests.
