Long hours, heavy work load

If you get hired you’ll be a relief. That means you’ll make 80% of the person you’re covering. The problem is the person you’re covering knows their route, so it takes them half the time it will take you. You’ll be working twice as long for less pay. You won’t understand all the codes and additions and subtractions on your pay stub, and 30% of the time your pay will be wrong and you’ll have to leave messages for management to correct it. Management is always “off” or “on holidays” in one year I saw the supervisor once, and in that same year I wasn’t paid on five separate occasions. Don’t work here if you have bills to pay. This is a job for someone who’s parents or partner supports them financially and they don’t mind busting their butt for next to nothing. 10 hour days delivering a “6 hour route” at 80% ends up being less than minimum wage after deductions. Not worth it.

Pros

Good coworkers.

Cons

Long hours, insufficient pay, unreliable pay cheques, heavy work load.

Great place for those looking to gain job experience.

The volume count position at Canada Post offers a great opportunity for people new to the job market to gain work experience. It's also a great way to supplement your income as this is a part-time seasonal contract basis job where you usually don't work more than three hours a day. Of course, this isn't going to be a main source of income for people but the position doesn't intend to do that either. The job itself is very simple; you simply count mail and fill out the corresponding case count forms. The work environment is great and occasionally you are left with a lot of idle time but you are getting paid so it doesn't matter.

Pros

Free snacks at the end of each week! Managers are very accommodating, and allow for leaving a little early if you have work elsewhere.

Cons

No real cons, but you work a max. of 3 hrs/ day, and this isn't intended to be a main source of income.

Toxic Management Culture

70 years of horrible labour relations led to a culture of nepotism, punitive labour culture. Targeting and harrassment of certain workers from.mgt for their own career advancement. Punitive not corrective discipline. An overburdened workforce given unrealistic workloads designed on covertly manipulated work measurements data. And the workers are blamed not the workload. Seniority system ensures new hires wirkave hardest work for less pay forced upon them through legislation.

Pros

Unionized

Cons

Toxic culture

Disorganized and petty

Management is horrible to work for. They do not even care enough to provide fans in the summer. All management care about is their bonuses! Sadly disappointed ☹️ Union only cares about full time letter carriers. No care for part time or casual employees or inside depot workers. Union is horrible and self serving. I would opt out if I could.

Pros

Pay is good

Cons

Management. No training
