Canada Life Employee Review

Very high work volume and responsibilities, low pay, colleagues are tremendous though.

Very hectic workload, corporate seem slow/reluctant to implement changes to help that. It's stressful and there is no time to have a relaxed pace of work. That being said, direct and regional management are brilliant, supportive, wonderful, but they aren't the ones with the power to make the changes. Colleagues across all roles are also brilliant people who are the only reason I have stayed in the job this long.

Pros

The people, wellness account, personal days, focus on mental health facilities.

Cons

Long hours, low pay, unwillingness to make tangible changes by corporate.

Great place to learn fast and grow

Great-West Life is a great place to work if you live in Winnipeg (where the HQ is located) because you get to move around a lot within the company, there's a lot of different things to do. Outside of there, there's not much things since it's a place where people stay there for a lot of years.

Pros

great health plan

Cons

workplace culture not yet up to date

Stressful

Caseloads are insane and are typically between 80-120+ files at once. Coworkers are often burning out and many would go on a stress leave and never return. You’re responsible for taking over their files as a result.

Terrible culture. I was often working late nights to catch up, but there’s no such thing as catching up when you’ve been given an extremely high caseload that’s unmanageable to begin with. I’ve never worked at such a high-stress and unfulfilling job in my entire life. Managers expected us to help out coworkers when we’re all busy trying to put out our own fires. The new regional manager is a nightmare. Everything is stats-driven but when you have a high caseload, how are you ever going to meet your metrics??? Avoid at all cost. I’ve never been happier to leave a company.

Pros

Great coworkers

Cons

No work-life balance. Job stress. High caseloads.
