Your just a number at Campbell. All they care about productivity. If you're seen not working when a Forman walks around you will hear about it. Other employees are cool to work with.

They don't care about there employees

Great if you have no career aspirations

Staff just riding it out till retirement, politics make it difficult to get anything done and create constant site confusion. Top tier staff leave to go work for other companies. The worker base is completely demotivated and, mostly, miserable in their jobs, which creates a really negative and unhealthy working atmosphere. Some days were like a jail sentence. Never again will I work for such a disorganized company.

Pros

union pays for school

Cons

disorganized project management, no training or structure

Learning to fly

The only time employee compensation increases is when people quit the company or there is a panic that people may leave and go work at a company that actually pays a fair market wage. There is definitely no training or annual review for employee development and any training or education is considered a waste of time and money. If you want a company with culture, this is not the place. Once you work there you will realize there is no proper HR department and just like most things on site it is a disorganized mess where everything is done on the fly.

Pros

Good few of guys on site

Cons

Pay, training

Working with people who are not that smart

This is the most amazing company ever, top notch talent with the best employees in town when it comes to creating chaos and confusion. I tried to contact the HR department as noted in the post below, is there anyone even trained in HR? Trying to find the HR department is like trying to find materials on the job site. Every day a treasure hunt at Campbell construction tryin to find directions, trying to find parts, trying to find the superintendent. It is amazing that they can even build a building with this dysfunctional group of project managers.

Pros

Rebuild things over and over

Cons

Unrealistic project timelines, poor project management

The phone number for our Human Resources Department is 250-475-1300 (our main phone number) because our Human Resources Dept is located in our head office, not on the job sites. Also, the job site you keep referring to is now complete. Thank you.

Most disorganized company in Victoria

The project management on Yates st is an absolute disaster. Half the people never show up, job site is in a constant state of confusion, missing supplies, and absolutely no organization. Everything is a panic, never completed on time, and unrealistic deadlines are constantly missed because of poor site management. Everyone on site knows why things are disorganized and when someone is a failure at life the site is also going to be a failure.

Pros

Lots of work

Cons

Project managers, superintendents

Clueless construction managers

I have worked on several job sites and this company is an absolute mess. They can barely run a job site, nothing is organized, and I am surprised they can get any trades to even work for them. You go to one site it's one way and you go to another and it's totally different, it's almost as if they have never built a building before. I'm am not sure what this company is good at other than making a mess of the job site to annoy anyone who works with them. The most disorganized project management team ever! Working on Yates Street is an absolute disaster. Why do something right once when you can do it the times over

Pros

Still trying to figure that one out

Cons

People running job sites who aren't even qualified

Lots of work but an absolute disaster on site

Job work life balance - you work 7am or maybe later depending on the superintendent, nothing is standardized in the companySalary - you get a union wage and union benefits, but most union works are slow and not very productive and there is little to no supervision, if you are a hard worker you gotta talk to other employees and find out how to get more moneyJob security - you can get laid off in an hours notice, if you get laid off you may get sent to another job. you never get sent to another job site its always a layoff and an absolute messAdvancement - there is no path for moving up, not sure how it happens because one superintendent didnt even pass the carpentry program and he runs a job site while others seem to work hard or came from another company. seems to be completely randomManagement - not sure if they exist, every job site is different and it seems to be a new choose your own adventure every timeJob culture - a great group of guys on site, there is no company culture tho, they dont seem to do anything unless someone quits and then it is very reactionary

Pros

lots of work and good guys on site

Cons

disorganization, management, training

Grass is greener at other companies in town

All these union companies are roughly the same, but some are a little worse than others. The hard part about working at Campbell was the reactionary decision making, everything is after the fact. Build something, nope now were are going to change how we are doing it again, and again. A lot of hard working people are underpaid and when people quite the company, a pay raise gets handed out to after the fact instead of treating people right from the start. There are some great people at the company, but on the other hand there is one superintendent who couldn't find their way into a paper bag and treats some employees in an abusive manner. Lots of micromanagement and confusion will guarantee you lots of work even if you have to build things a few times over and over again. There seems to be some decent people in the company but they are handcuffed in their ability to make any changes. Was fun working with various crews, some interesting projects but overall things are pretty disorganized with very little planning.A lot of information about this company is true about the job site disorganization, super on site does not show up to site half the time or takes off if it was anyone else they would be fired. There is a great group of guys on site but things are a mess more days than not. You only get a pension/retirement plan if you are in the union and will only give you an increase when people quit and owners get desperate. If you can get in the union, great. If you cant the benefits are some of the worst in the industry. Says a lot about how the company cares more about nickel-and-diming -

Team oriented work place with good leadership.

Fast pace work environments are not for everyone so come prepared. If your are ready to learn and willing to listen Campbell is great. There is opportunities to expand through Union training and on the job experience. The most enjoyable part of the job is your co workers and the fact that you are able to be a part of building something amazing. Campbell has great connections with several local developers and seems to always have plenty of work for the hard working individuals.

The mentoring provided by the Superintendents and the office staff at Campbell has greatly improved my communication skills with the other trades and crew. Always willing to teach and give guidance to a productive path.

Organize all trades on site as well as our own workforce, document all daily activities, great team atmosphere among the Superintendents Office Staff and Management , positive with instruction for site workers , overall co-ordination can be trying some days but overall approach with trades remains positive, the most enjoyable part of the job is dealing with people building positive relationships and changing Victoria's skyline

A multitude of fun and upbeat personalities

A typical day consists of working with many different people, all with fun and upbeat personalities. It's never a dull moment and everyday is full of laughs. I enjoy seeing the buildings come to life! Everyone works very hard and they are extremely knowledgeable on many different levels. There's always something new to learn. All of the workers and management support each other and that support/teamwork is what produces some of the most beautiful buildings in the Victoria area. I couldn't image working anywhere else.

Pros

Work life balance, supportive, fun co-workers, hard working

Cons

Not everyone gets along with their Supervisor, but then again are you supposed to be best friends with your boss?

these people stopped learning 20 years ago

still do not know how to build a building, it seems every time workers are running around in circles fixing mistakes. worked on tapestry and we seemed to have a rotating door of superintendents, then worked on yates and its being run by a kid about as smart as a door knob. not sure how this company is still operating.

Nobody knows what is going on

Do not even bother working at this place every other job site is a complete gong show. There is some great coworkers, but the owners are cheap and pay below market wages. You only get a pension/retirement plan if you are in the union and will only give you an increase when people quit and owners get desperate. If you can get in the union, great. If you cant, get out because you will end up retiring with nothing. Says a lot about how the company cares more about nickel-and-diming everything rather than caring about the staff who actually do the work.

Pros

coworkers, lots of work

Cons

ownership, disorganization

Welcome to the bush league

Management should learn how to hire competent people and stop micromanaging when you show up on the job site making random decisions. how many times do we have to rebuild parts of a building due to mistakes and random decisions being made on the fly? stairs, walls, columns in the wrong place, at least it makes lots of work for us carpenters. the company is simply a group of good old boys who cant come up with a single new idea and cant plan ahead on any jobsite. stop running this company in such a bush league way and hire some people who actually know how to run a business

Pros

learn how to be complacent and not to care about your job

Cons

no leadership, no planning, no organization, family business with family politics, people in management with no experience, random people put in random positions, pay cheques messed up and missing hours
