Great workplace with good benefits

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Overall a good sense of community and services. A typical day involved answering emails, going to meetings, and interfacing with instructors, staff and students. I learned important time management skills there along with technical elements of the servers. The culture is positive, driven, but supportive. The hardest part of the job was multi-tasking when multiple clients were needing support. The most enjoyable part of the job was the community.

Malpractice

Toxic culture, new hires untenured (called Non-Regular) are treated HORRIBLY. They will use you, wear you out, hold out the hope of job security, not likely to come, in the meantime you will pick up any course they throw at you, unsupervised, work evenings and summers, make a portion of the pay of your Regular colleagues, for the same work, and no benefits or job security.

Pros

Interurban has a great place for lunch.

Cons

Everything else.

Relaxed and easy work if you're a hard worker

Amazing coworkers, easy to talk to management, repetitive but consistent work. The routes switch up so you aren't always doing the same place. The janitorial team helps with security and production too so there are different things to do throughout the year. Not many day shifts available however so be prepared to start your 8hour workday around 4PM.

Worked there for years.Beginning was good older culture.

Quality of work satisfaction diminished after working there a number of years. As chairs, deans and administrators came and went the culture became more hostile. Very little appreciation of experienced teachers and a generally ageist attitude. I appreciated that a union was in place to help defend faculty against unfair against unfair

wholesome use of skill sets

Good communication skills regularly used. Good and approachable management team. Shift start at 8:30 and end at 4. Hard part is getting permanent full time work. It takes a long time to become a regular employee.

Great work community

It's a great group of people who are poorly managed. The management team is constantly getting scrapped and rebuilt, but they are never address the core problems

Fun Place to Work

Very fun place to work with great staff and lots of laughs. There was opportunity to learn other positions within the Student Society office. Management was friendly.

Pros

Fun

Terrible labour relations

Sadly, a decade of under-funding of public education has gutted this college like so many other institutions in the province. The result includes an administration that is perpetually at war with the unions. The grievances pile to the sky while morale sinks. Teaching excellence is paid lip-service, but there is no accountability other than in the counting of beans to balance budgets. Students deserve far better. Tone deaf administration confuses an archaic and authoritarian management style with progressive and creative leadership.

Pros

Students will always be the highlight.

Cons

Administrative incompetence, poor advancement opportunities, stagnant culture

Great campus

Good variety of courses and staff. Nice campus and buildings. The management is respectful. Pay is good. Union rates. Three campuses makes for great choices.

Enjoyed my time there

I made specialty coffees for a college cafeteria. I really enjoyed my job there but no room for advancement. Hourly wages at that time were minimum($8 per hour) and I had a family. I learned how to make really yummy coffees. Management was very supportive of each employees needs. Hardest part of job was trying to secure enough hours to make a living. Most enjoyable was each day meeting clients and fellow employees.

Pros

Learned how to make great coffees

Cons

Not enough hours
