Not so great

It was bad. Uninspiring workplace with no opportunity for growth or opportunity. I don’t recommend working there if you enjoy teaching and if you value your mental health

Great Team; Low Pay

As an EA, we work with very difficult and stressful situations. The salary we get is really not worth the work we do but yet, CBE probably offers the highest wage for EAs in Calgary. After a couple of months I was burnt out and felt like I was not performing at my best which is unfair to the students so I had to take a break. I was lucky to work with a school with a supportive and amazing team but unfortunately having a good team won’t pay your bills. Please start appreciating your EAs.

Cons

Wage, no security if you don’t have a contract.

Great Experience

Excellent place to be, professionally run with good work/life balance. Working hours may not be for everyone (full time is not probable), but for a part-timer it is a great fit.

Not much support

As a first year teacher, if you want mentorship or support, you will have to work hard to make it happen yourself. Teachers and admin all seem like they are stretched thin and getting close to the breaking point. But facilities are kept up okay and if you have good admin they will support you.

Not productive fun place to work.

I was employed as school technical support casual position. Only once I got a work assignment. After that no work assignments given. After about one year in the casual roster terminated my position giving the reason that I did nor work continually. CBE is a government establishment their administration supervisors have their own way of administrationNot happy at all the way they treated me as an employee.

Great staff, Enjoyable Work

I loved working for the CBE. Lots of interesting people, staff, students and parents. Training was accessible, though very little at the start. But they do accommodate PTOs.

A large board with a lot of different experiences

I have worked at many schools in the CBE and have felt appreciated and valued at most of them. A lot of the career advancement is based on nepotism which is unfortunate. I believe the division as a whole is trying to become better.

Pros

There are a lot of different schools with different management and values so, if you don't like where you are, there's probably still a place for you somewhere in the division.

Cons

It can be difficult to get a probationary contract if you don't have high up connections.

Some amazing coworkers

Some of the best coworkers. So many care about the big picture. The teachers I have had the opportunity to work with are passionate about what they do.

Busy but rewarding

Must have extreme amount of organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and a love for students. You will never be sitting around wondering what to do, since there are always issues to deal with

Its a very organize, creative and fun experience to worked in this school.

What is the best part of working at the company?I've been working at the Calgary Board of Education before as a cleaner during the pandemic year 2020 to 2021. The company was very concerned about its employees, the people I worked with were very kind, cooperative, and supportive. That is why I will try my luck again to apply for the position as part-time cleaner. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? In my experience, nothing because I'm surrounded by a good co-worker. They were helped you in times you need it, also they will encourage you in a positive way. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Its a very diverse environment, I've been assigned to a particular SCHOOL WHICH IS A SPANISH SCHOOL, AND IM am VERY HAPPY TO BE PART OF THAT SCHOOL EVEN for TEN MONTHS BECAUSE THE PEOPLE THERE WAS RESPECTFUL TO YOUR CULTURE AND BELIEFS. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Peaceful and lively day. I enjoyed working in this company because of all the people that I worked with.

Good place to work

Great place to work and learn, the benefit is excellent as long as you work at least 15 hours a week. Most schools are very flexible in terma of starting time to fit your own life.

Productive and Fun

A typical day at work starts at 3:30pm after school hours. Depending on the area that you're assigned and depending on how many hours you work in a day (it varies to 4 Hours Part Time,3 Hours Part Time and 8 Hours Full Time) the more hours the more area that you need to cover, you're assigned specific areas that you have to maintained everyday, that includes multiple classrooms, washrooms and hallways. from disinfecting the classroom tables, sweeping and mopping, as well as replenishing paper towels/toilet paper in certain classrooms and hand soaps. I learned a lot in terms of time management within this job, that's why it is very important to keep up with your day to day tasks so that you don't fall behind if certain accidents happen in certain areas especially in the washrooms, trust me you never know what you'll walk into after school hours, especially in the washrooms :) make sure to replenish everything and double check them so that you don't have to worry about them and just focus on cleaning and disposing of trash as your night goes on. Workplace culture's great within the Public School Board, everyone is very helpful and supportive of each other and always there to lend a helping hand. The hardest part of the job I would say would be when Winter Season comes and when Summer season is on, shovelling the snow will put your body to work for sure, but that only works for employees who works Full time and have undergone the training and safety, there are certain tasks that a Part time worker is not allowed to do and that includes shovelling the snow, a big chunk of the work -

Pros

Work Life Balance, Benefits, Long Term

Cons

Winter Season

Dynamic substitute teaching position

Enjoyed substitute teaching with the CBE for the most part. Once you have a few schools with which you are familiar, it’s nice to be a regular sub so you can get to know the students.
