Fast paced and caring environment

Featured review

Calea selected this as a representative review
Knowing that what we do is important to our patients it is rewarding to meet the demands of getting the medical supplies and drugs to patients across Ontario in a 4hr window. This is done with a well oiled team all working to the end goal of the patient.

Pros

Team environment

Cons

A lot of red tape due to the nature of the business

Fast paced and exciting place to work

Working at Calea is a really fast paced job no matter your department. In operations, there is high turnover because they expect a lot from new employees and the lack of proper training. However, people are generally helpful and if you are accurate, make your numbers and follow SOPs you really don't have to worry much. I find that for some people, if they find you're really good at something they'll keep you there and refuse to move you around. However, if you're proactive and lucky you can sometimes move around and try new things out. I find that management can be a bit tough but fair. I was moved around a lot and got to learn a lot of new things. I also find that management is open to new ideas if you know how to frame it in a way which will benefit them immediately. On top of this overtime is pretty much expected though not forced and you can make quite a bit from all that overtime.

Pros

Lots of opportunities and friendly environment

Cons

Fast paced environment may not be for everyone.

Great place to work that makes a difference in the community

Great company to work for. Plenty of room to grow and learn once you understand the business. Work can be busy but everyone works really hard together. Management is supportive and easy going. Hardest part of the job is meeting the tight turnarounds when things get busy. Everyone is nice to work with and cares. Pride in your work goes a long way. Every positive action is helping your own community.

Pros

Free Lunch. Matched RSP. Benefits. Work Parties. Tonnes of different Job opportunities

Cons

Business is always busy and never sleeps

No advancement, overtime with short notice or no notice.

Management should do a better job. You will be asked to stayback with out any notice. No advancement options. Supervisors and management has their favourites.

Worst place to work

Stay away from IT dept. It's very micromanaged. They watch you all the time. Workers are depressed, over worked and under paid. Our manager used to call us anytime after hours like the company bought us. There is no life balance .

Pros

Nothing that I can think of

Cons

Long hours, busy on call, under paid, over worked

Productive, meaningful work.

Long term employee who has seen consistent advancement. Management is collaborative and open to new ideas. Staff are welcoming, fun, energetic, and keep the morale high. The work can be repetitive, but rewarding knowing the positive impact the organization can make on so many patients and their families.

I might be here for a while...

I have been at Calea for 2 years and can easily see myself staying here for many more years to come. Staff is friendly and welcoming and the Social Committee makes sure we have a good time outside of working hours as well. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people I work with. You must be good at multitasking to do this job otherwise it can be hard to keep up - but generally the job is easy and repetitive but interesting enough to not get bored. There is lots of vacation time available and the scheduling structure leaves a lot of room for flexibility. There is room to grow in this company and management is supportive and encouraging and open to new ideas. They will do everything they can to help you succeed in your career.

Fast paced, stressful, overworked and understaffed

Concerns were rarely, if ever addressed. Very critical and judgemental. No learning opportunities. You are a production worker. Under value staff and little to no growth opportunities. Worried more about volume being sent out to patients than the quality.

Like a stressful high school.

Extremely high turnover in all departments. I saw so many great employees in and out. It was terrible. Just too many tasks to be done for all of the positions, not enough employees, or enough time. There is very clear favouritism between staff and management. Those certain staff (older, but not all of them) slack off all the time. Spent more time talking about the football pool, that weekend’s bbq plans for them all, plus general chatting. While all the temps and newer employees did all the work. It’s also like a stressful high school. A lot of gossip and even name calling to the point of tears. It was so stressful trying to get as much done as you can with the heavy work load, drama, knowing there is so much more to be done, but not enough time, or yet trained people to do it. Plus new employees coming in over and over trying to learn. In all departments. Just ridiculous.

Pros

Free food.

Cons

Long hours.

Expect to stay past your 8 hour shift often

This company is a fast paced workplace. They always have something for you to do. Perfect if this is the only job you work. But if you work elsewhere plan to quit. This job will tell you that you have to stay until you finish all your tasks even if it takes you an extra hour or two. You can never book activities after work because you never know when you'll leave

Pros

Nice people, fair pay

Cons

Long hours

Fast-paced, decent pay, minimal experience needed

You start off as a picker, there's pressure to work quickly, so it's a faster-paced environment. Over time you start to memorize locations of health-related items that you're picking, the job becomes easier over time.Didn't stay long enough to do enough packing.

Pros

Decent Pay

Cons

Fast-Paced

A fun place to work When no supervisor around

Great company, treat you with respect has long as you know what you are doing. They have BBQ, Christmas party and all seasonal events. Management is great very helpful but watch out for the supervisors.

Pros

Always events going on

Worst management I have ever seen

no room for growth, management doesn't care for anything but themselves and their salaries, cleanroom is over worked, exhausted and way under paid. I wouldn't recommend ANYONE in any department to work here. place claims all they care about is patient and patient safety and not even close. HR is useless

Productive and friendly working environment

Productive and friendly working environment. people are very collaborative. The management team is very transparent in sharing results. HR team is doing a great job in bringing people together through events and activities to create strong bonds between employees

Not enough support from staff

Not enough team work, warehouse is often left to own devices. No leadership support. Current management is very analytical and not compassionate towards employees as the company grows employees are becoming numbers not people.

Worst place I’ve ever worked. No one is willing to train. Every time I had requested it from a co-worker I was told “we don’t get paid to train” (apparently no one there does because they just don’t) The management is extremely discouraging. I hadn’t even been working there for more than a few months and I could hear the team lead saying negative things about a team member to other team members. It felt like they would rather watch you fail than help you; which is very scary being that how well an employee does there could reflect on the safety of a patient receiving the drugs from that site. They are in no way open to suggestions for improvement. Any suggestion made to co-workers is immediately brushed off with “ let QA worry about it”. As if the employees in the lab have zero quality training. If you’re a new hire then you better be able to read minds. You are expected to know what the cleanroom needs without being in there; and you are expected to know when they need it without being told. Any new person who starts is basically treated as a slave. The technicians (lead included) are extremely lazy. They won’t do anything for themselves. If there is one order waiting and two people in the cleanroom the lead will ask you to stay late just so they don’t have to do it themselves. Management allows the pharmacists to carry this sense of entitlement. They have no consideration for anyone they work with and they refuse to clean up after themselves (which sometimes results in financial loss for the company when they leave refrigerated drugs out over night.) You are also expects to -
