software developer (Current Employee) – montreal – 15 August 2016
I can't recommend working at Busbud. Management glorifies people who work long hours, developers are on call because production always crashes and we implement new features instead of fixing existing bugs, there is a sexist atmosphere with bad jokes, and it's a bit of a frathouse. If you're part of the "cool kids", you'll be fine. If not, good luck.
Some interns are unpaid, others are paid.
There is a lot of effort on the part of the company to appear transparent, and people are encouraged to ask questions directly to the management team. But when someone asks too many questions, or management doesn't like the questions, they either censor or fire the employees.
Management is trying to squeeze everything they can out of employees, nevermind the very high churn rate: Almost no one stays more than 9-12 months there.
The health insurance is very cheap and with good coverage, free bus tickets when you go on vacation is nice if travelling by bus is your thing. The offices are noisy but have a very nice view of Montreal.
health insurance cost, free bus tickets, nice views from the office
long hours, lack of transparency, very political, unpaid interns, pager duty
