False hopes All talk
Hydrovac Operator (Former Employee) - Nisku, AB - 28 April 2023
Started out in June 2022. It was all yes yes great we will do this etc! My family sacrificed also in the move spent 26k in costs to relocate from another province to start with BD for better life yet BD operations provides very little direction planning when dispatched out for work! It’s always last minute or very unclear direction where when who unit etc it’s no regard for your family but just go and you’ll get info and then likely not know whats happening and will return home because they didn’t plan right! Your assigned unit will go to whoever they like more and you’ll be told unit is out for repair “lie” it will be on job site with whoever and you’ll be in some old dump box worn out unit! Management isn’t very transparent, paint a nice picture but leave you in the dark. Suddenly OPS will go quite won’t lay you off or terminate or respond to your attempts of willing to work so you can’t even get EI to support your family yet they keep hiring people. Will cut you off benefits without even calling you! Safety is a word for them and a-lot guys running equipment don’t even follow safety yet safety doesn’t see it being an issue. OPS gives out nice work detail to ones they like that buddy up with management so they get cream of crop allowances perks. A big fall in rating for BD why? Because they fail in work sites, fail good people wanting to work but play favourites, they work as a rotating door!
Pros
Pay, Good PPE
Cons
Management Not organized, old guys smoke in trucks/dirty, favouritism, lack of transparency, lack of information, H&S is just a Title does nothing to enforce

Insights into Bulldog Energy Group
Areas for improvement
- Trust in colleagues
- Sense of belonging
- Support from manager
This company does not have a reason on how and/or why they do their business.
Heavy Equipment/Rentals Supervisor (Current Employee) - Nisku, AB - 21 April 2023
You can have a promotion when your manager likes you. Your raises depend on if your doing your Saftey paper work (even though they don’t follow it) when you ask for a raise most of the time you told just be thankful you have a job. This company has a high turnover rate.

Lots of promises let undelivered
Hydrovac Operator (Former Employee) - Nisku, AB - 6 February 2023
They definitely tell you whatever you want to hear to get you hired, from there it's poor to non existent communication and last minute panic scrambling to send you to wherever they need you need

Lots of work hours/$. No home life
Hydrovac/combo/vac operator (Former Employee) - Nisku, AB - 30 October 2022
If you can keep your mouth shut and don’t mind being lied to and never home you can make a ton of money. A lot of smoke blowing and no time for a family.

High turnover
Operations Manager (Former Employee) - Nisku, AB - 8 October 2022
Owner is afraid of people that question his decisions so most people with back bones are let go of and replaced. If you wanna survive just be a number in the crowd and go along with the decisions made and never take time for yourself.

Runs like a family.
Vacuum Truck Operator (Current Employee) - Alberta - 21 September 2022
They are very understanding company. Big help with training and learning the system before they send you out to work. Unlike most companies out there. Great bunch of people to work with.

needs improvement
Water Truck Driver (Former Employee) - British Columbia - 14 June 2022
I spent a lot of my time and theirs getting certified to do the job required of me. Right from the day I started there I was did not receive the the training I was promised, then a few days into the new job I was told I had to remove myself from the worksite as there was one course not completed by me. The way I see it that was up to the staff involved in sending me off to camp and jobsite, after a couple weeks of courses I didn't know what was what anymore, sad that I quit after all the time and money spent on courses, it didn't have to go that way, I liked most people there hope they get it together in that office, as it didn't give me a lot of confidence to move forward in my career at Bulldog.
Pros
camp life, company truck to camp
Cons
lack of training and promises to fix problems

Good Teammates, Starts with Dispatch!
Hydrovac/Combovac Operator (Current Employee) - Alberta - 24 May 2022
Great atmosphere, flexible work schedules so you have time for your personal life! Lots of hours if your willing to travel for different projects, relatively able to work where you feel comfortable and confidence to fit in. Office personnel easy to approach for questions you may have regarding the work schedule and project in general. Mechanics are always on top of any repairs needed or requests you may have for the equipment, strong positive atmosphere with other drivers that have experience to share ideas or questions you may have about the type of work!
Pros
Positive Team Atmosphere
Cons
Pay was Weekly, Switched to Bi-Weekly!

Jobs at Bulldog Energy Group
For the most part pretty good
Truck Driver (Current Employee) - Mannville, AB - 27 April 2022
Most of the work is with drilling rigs. I drive water truck. Filling up 400 bbl tanks and boiler. On certain rigs could just fill the rig tank. The truck for the most part are well maintained.

Long hours, away from home.
Vacuum Truck Operator (Former Employee) - Mannville, AB - 9 December 2021
You never know where your going until the last minute, sometimes had to wait for days. If you had a camp it was better because you didn't have to cook and add that time to your 12 hour day. Met workers that had to help because they weren't ready or trained enough on their unit to do the job properly. This line of work is not for a family man.
Pros
Good if you have a camp job.
Cons
Long hours, dirty and cold.

A good place to work but they didn’t have enough work on their rig hoe side
Hoe operator (Former Employee) - Nisku, AB - 5 January 2021
The pay was decent. The manager was very accommodating if you needed a few extra days off. Want lists were never an issue and there was always a mechanic available if needed
Pros
Main office was close to my home
Cons
Not enough steady work

Not bad, needs some culture change.
Vac and Water Truck Operator, Equipment Operator, and Field Supervisor (Current Employee) - Mannville, AB - 9 September 2020
More local people, less eastern guys with all the work. Would be nice to support local more, there are talented guys in our province? Less favouritism from management and more about the work and less about the friendship!

Great for people that are ambitious and can work independantly. Also you wont mind being away from home for a couple weeks at a time. The company will fly you in to Edmonton and transport you to the main facility and you will be dispatched to a job site from there.
Pros
Work as much as you like too
Cons

Last of the true Vac & Water companies
I have seen many Vac & Water companies come and go over the past few years through the oil price downturn, Bulldog has managed to keep their heads afloat through it all and gain more market share while maintaining & exceeding industry standards for maintenance and safety. If you want to work for a great company & great people, apply today!
