Bruce Power although well paid, provides little support for managers and disregards work life balance. Work environment toxic and culture very much associated to those born and raised in the area.

This 8 months co-op is a great opportunity to learn about the process and all aspects of a nuclear operator. An orange badge certification was also provided by the company to ensure that workers know the safety requirements to work in a nuclear plant.
Pros
competitive salary
Cons
no steam time provided

Somethings that you don’t know about the Bruce Power’s HIRING PROCESS!

After some applies they will call you. Do not jump up and down. It means you are lucky, but not so lucky. Their process is very time consuming and can drain your saving! For this reason, many of job seekers are absent from their hiring process!

You may feel it was a Scam, when all of a sudden they disappear and the only feedback that you get from your recruiter is; --- is not available!

Despite these signs, Bruce Power is a legitimate employer and what they do is based on their policy. It is simply because of the way that they make money!

Attention; following numbers are averages based on my experiences with Bruce Power. They might vary from case to case

1- their sites are in remote areas and you have to drive. It is not a regular interview to show up 15 min before the interview and go home. They are always running many hiring events simultaneously. You would be waiting in different rooms for hours. They give you water, but no food.

1 full day+ buying food for 12 hours + gas and other expenses for every interview

After interview, if your answers are not irrelevant, they forward you to the next steps. It’s too soon to jump up and down. You are not alone. Remember how many empty spots had been offered to you by Human Resources for interview! If they were 4, you are at least with 4 more applicants on the same boat!

2- at first they ask you to fill out very simple forms. Shorty after, you face more sophisticated forms. Approximately, you will send around 100 pages to Bruce Power. You have

The daily routine starts with a face to face turnover of operational details form the outgoing crew. Then an assessment of the days planned work and available manpower. Then assigning work, checking worker qualifications and completing pre-job briefs including providing any documentation/procedures required. All work activities are logged and work status is updated. Any equipment repairs required are initiated and logged.

The training is a extensive and a combination of classroom and in the field with re-qualifications every 1 to 3 years depending on the qualification.

The pay and benefits are great but working conditions can be any weather from high heat to rain and snow storms.

The people are mostly highly educated and in general friendly and willing to help solve any issues.
Pros
Excellent pay and benifits
Cons
Field positions can require work in uncomfortable conditions

Salary is very competitive; most professional workers start near 100k.

I believe that most culture and values are recognized as a good thing to do but that the company has a long way to go to ingrain them.

Job security for senior management (Execs) is poor. For union represented employees, excellent.

Management/Leadership is poor. It is a company largely run by technocrats with poor management and leadership skills. Engineers are more highly prized that MBAs, to their detriment.

Work/Life balance is good for union represented but over-all, poor for managers. If you work in the station it is worse that corp HQ.
Pros
salary
Cons
unprofessional

In the nuclear industry, things move either incredibly fast, or rather slow. Most work is shiftwork for tradespeople and professionals - excellent overtime premiums and excellent benefits package.

Open e-mail and calender. Respond and prepare for meetings.
Review previous unwanted conditions and prepare corrective actions for minor problems.

Preform Apparent Cause and Root Cause for more serious conditions.

Prepare Power Point, Excel Spread Sheets and any Word docs as required.

Review Standards and prepare Management to speak to Regulators or speak on their behalf.

Learned to listen and refrain from "knee jerk" decisions but ensure the issue is addressed and followed up to prevent recurrence.

Review OPEX from related groups and roll out identified issues to prevent occurrence at OPG.

Work well with co-workers and share informatrion as well as mentoring.

The hardest part is getting staff engaged with a Management initiative.
I accept change easily and my function is to get staff to "buy in" and provide all the positive aspects and highlight the benefits to the company and themselves.
The most enjoyable part is the follow up, all corrective actions have been complete and no repeat occurrences.
