BGH is struggling. They have very little staff and continually do not stand up for employees on an ongoing basis.

I hope they do well in the future.

Working at the BGH has some.many learning experiences. It is a very busy hospital. The medicine unit consists of 3 floors, where it is equally very busy with a a variety of learning opportunities. Friendly and supportive staff makes it a comfortable work environment.

Part time has to be available 24/7 but no guaranteed hours. Managers are underqualified. For instance, a physiotherapist is director of medical lab and imaging. Social worker reports to the head of chaplain and recreation. A registered practical nurse is a manager of surgical unit.
Pros
Pays well

Those in leadership roles at BCHS are selected based on skills, experience, and abilities to work in a constantly changing, demanding environment.

Scheduling is based on the needs of the hospital. We know that this can be inconvenient for staff from time to time. Schedules are provided well in advance to help staff with work/life balance.

Taken over by government supervisor in 2017.
They made a valiant effort to improve, but there are still a few axes in upper management that need to drop.

Each day is different. Depending on the season determines the busyness. A great crew to work with but short staffed way too often. Contract for area isn't equal to other cities hospitals. Short changes to staff for pay and coverage they deserve.
Pros
Wage
Cons
Contract

A great healthcare service that manages to be large yet maintain a "smaller town" feel. Lots of growth opportunity due to its size. Fast paced and of course, responsive to the whims of the provincial healthcare system so there's never a dull moment.

Enjoyable work helping others. Challenging and satisfying work. The people I work with are professional and fun. Hardest part is balancing family and work life.

Patient first philosophy.
Staff are family-like, very small town in it's outlook.

Very large-facility in its approach..................................

Healthcare cuts affect every department and upper management is not involved or are overloaded. Unrealistic expectations in daily task as most employees are doing what two people did in the past.
They want more done but will pay for overtime. If you want to be a star in this work environment you will be doing it on your own time and without compensation.
Pros
Good pension. 7.5 hour days.
Cons
too much work and no support from management

Working at switchboard we answer phones, help customers with payments, directions and general inquiries, monitor all the alarms for the hospital and are responsible for contacting all the doctors on call for different specialties. All my co-workers and managers are great, the only part of the job I don't care for is the hours, we work split shifts almost every weekend and being from out of town it is not working for me anymore.
Pros
great company and good pay
Cons
hours

It was a 4 month Co-op term in ICT (Information & Communication Technology)

My co-workers were kind, fun and very knowledgeable. I learned a lot there from that term. I learned all about printer hardware, about rollers, fusers, how the trays work and how to tell if the toner is bad or leaking onto the paper. I also learned how to configure network phones, create images using Ghost32 and learned some common issues users have with Microsoft office.

The majority of the day is spent sitting at a desk answering help desk calls and help the user solve issues remotely if possible. If not go out and fix it for them.
Pros
Fun, exciting learning enviorment
Cons
Nurses are sometimes too busy to talk over the phone, so you go across the hospital to just power on a computer

The culture of the Brant Community Healthcare System fosters attainment of new skills on a daily basis and offers a number of professional development courses and workshops to maintain your competence.

For the most part, everyone works as a valued member of the team. Of course there are always those who don't but on the whole it's a great place to work.

I never dread going into work which says a lot for this employer.

The hardest part is waiting to secure full time employment.
Pros
professional development
Cons
time constraints to get things done
