Nice get togethers Christmas party, start up party end of season party.
Truck driver (Current Employee) –  Onoway, AB23 June 2019
Enjoy out driving not a lot left to learn. Management needs work. Hardest part of the job is traffic. Most enjoyable part of the job is out in the fresh air seeing stuff you help build highways etc.
Pros
Paid meals on get togethers.
Cons
Long hours and bad weather days no work.

Laborer/Rock Truck Driver (Former Employee) –  Red Deer, AB21 January 2019
While at Border Paving I operated a rock truck and did traffic control. Overall it was an easy-going place to work with in-house and on-the-job training in different tasks.

They’ll Screw You
Class 1 Gravel Truck (Former Employee) –  Stony Plain, AB28 December 2018
Dispatch is awesome! Upper management sucks, they’ll screw you and promise you the moon. Get a raise, 4 months after you’re told that you are. Work all summer, then 3 days after Christmas get laid off with zero notice
Pros
Great dispatch
Cons
Upper management, you’re a number

Great place to work
Paving Laborer (Current Employee) –  Red Deer, AB8 November 2018
Most days were well organized and busy. Days flew by and you felt like you accomplished something good in the community. The management was great to work for. Met some good people there, some of whom became good friends. Lots of hours and a profit share program that you were eligible for upon entering your third year of employment. Many of the employees there have worked there for 20+ years. You have every long weekend off as well as a company picnic in July. Every fall, they have a huge company Christmas party for the adults and they throw a smaller one for those with children. They are truly a family based company.
Pros
Profit share
Cons
seasonal

Great co-workers, management confusing
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Red Deer, AB25 October 2018
Lots of great people around the office; mostly everyone is fantastic. Management and personal responsibilities are a bit unclear however, due to lack of Human Resources department and the way they do things. Things are not necessarily carried out in a professional order or way.
Pros
Great staff
Cons
No Human Resources

Good place to work over the summer, lots of hours and decent wage. Average around 14 hours a day, 6 days a week. Lots of stuff to do on site so you're usually pretty busy.

If you like lots of money and no time to spend it you will like this place.
Labourer (Former Employee) –  Red Deer, AB7 August 2018
So to start there is a lot of seniority complexes when working here, some people on the crew wont even bother learning your name until 6 months or more on the job, not to mention will take the liberty of getting rid of some of your gear because they deem it to be too dirty for the truck or inconvenient for them.
Pros
Good hours, good pay
Cons
No life outside work.

Flagger (Former Employee) –  Red Deer, AB20 January 2018
Good company to work for, lots of moving around to different job sites, lots of time outside and meeting new people often. Only downside is the amount of standing you do throughout the day.

Truck Driver (Former Employee) –  Stony Plain, AB1 January 2018
These guys are great. If you have a strong work ethic and some common sense, you will thrive while working here. The hours are long during construction season, but you will have a better work/life balance during the winter - the perfect gig for someone who hunts or likes to ride their sled in the winter. Everyone works hard to complete the job, but safety is at the forefront. The pay is above average and you are respected as a worker and person. The owner even pops in and hands out hats to the employees.

pay, people

long hours during the summer

Good hard work but very few days off
Labourer (Former Employee) –  Stony Plain, AB3 September 2017
A typical day would be about 13-15 hours long and we work about 6-7 days a week. We had no set schedule on days we were working or had off. The hardest part of the job was consistently working 14 or 15 hour days for weeks.
Pros
Good money and a good experience
Cons
Long hours and minimal days off and no breaks

good company values in safety and accident prevention. great work areas for safety of all the workers and the public. Supervisor involved the flagger in training for posting signage , arrow boards ,directing traffic safely through the work zone. working for Border has strengthened my skills in traffic laws ,accident prevention and communication to direct traffic safely through a potential dangerous and hazardous work site.
Pros
shares after time in the company, reasonale wage

Equipment Operator/Labourer (Former Employee) –  Stony Plain, AB11 December 2015
If you are a poor labourer or operator you may not last long depending on how many applications they receive... Good pay compared to other employers. Great profit sharing and safety award programs for long term employees. Equipment isn't in the best condition but mechanics are always available when needed.
Pros
Profit sharing, greenhands get equipment experience
Cons
Everyone is expected to do labour no matter age or position

Class 1 Truck Driver (Current Employee) –  Onoway, AB14 October 2015
This was a great company to work for but with the winter coming the hours will be poor. Did some out of town jobs and worked locally around home other times.
