The Association was founded by its member municipalities in 1989 when local rural communities in Southwestern Ontario had a desire to provide blue box recycling services to its residents. A non-profit corporation governed by elected representatives from each member municipality was created in essence forming a municipal cooperative that remains unmatched to this day.

The unique structure of the Association enables it to operate at arms length from its municipal owners providing a management environment similar to a private company focused on efficiency. Under the watchful eyes of the Board of Directors, made up of independent elected politicians, service remains an equally important component of our decision-making process. We like to think that we operate in a gray area that benefits from the best of both worlds, private and public.

The Association services approximately 190,000 people in 90,000 households from 22 municipalities with its state-of-the-art material recovery facility and fleet of 42 collection vehicles. In short, if you live in our area, we probably collect your waste and recyclables.

We don’t have thousands of employees, in fact we have less than 100. We prefer to think of everyone as family and chances are everyone you come across will know your name. Our rural base is reflected in our culture where everyone works together and pitches in an honest day’s work to provide the best possible service to our customers and owners.

When you accept a position at the Association, you become part of our family, a family that is driven by a strong sense of pride in making the world a cleaner and greener place to live for future generations.

The Association protects the health and safety of our society and prevents any potential harmful impact on the communities we serve. We are constantly developing and investing in innovative solutions to build a better tomorrow for future generations.

In every way, our most important resource is our people. Our deep understanding of resource renewal also guides us in cultivating a culture of lifelong learning and career growth, and flows naturally from our deepest core values and our unwavering dedication to safety and wellness. We believe the work we do is vitally important and meaningful and that our employees are the stewards of our region’s natural beauty. We seek to hire the most talented and dedicated people to serve our customers.

The Bluewater Recycling Association is committed to creating an environment of inclusion and mutual respect where opportunities are available to all applicants and team members without regard to race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, genetic information, military and veteran status, status as individual with a disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. Interesting and fast paced job.
Good management team from the bottom up, always approachable and willing to talk with you (even if they dont always do what seems obviously needed to be done). Work can be stressful, especially when multiple people call in sick per day. Pay is good considering the work requirements, benefits are great. Unionized, which is both good and bad.

Horrible workplace, Do Not Recommend!!
Poorly run company, managers do not have proper management training. They do not care about their workers safety, wellbeing, or over all happiness. They are not open to constructive criticism when problems are brought forth, nor are they willing to fix problems in and around the company and property. I do not recommend this position to anyone who is a certified mechanic. They do not pay according ...

Good company
Good company to work for. Fast paced but makes the day go by quick. Really good benefits especially the pension plan. Can’t complain.
